AMERICAblog: Maybe they should call it "FOX Read"

  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
Not sure I just heard this correctly, but I think Dana Bash on CNN just quoted McCain regarding the next debate:
"I'm going to kick his ass!" Did anyone hear that??
  • davidkc · 1 year ago
Sorry, this entire story is a non-starter. I've watched several different videos of this, and other than some quick boos at the beginning it's hard to hear what's going on, in large part because the music is so loud. But I do see a lot of people clapping. We need to drop this one.

Off subject, but Huffington Post asks "who saw the crisis coming". How about 2 British comedians.

    Funny, but spot on.

It is truthfully hard to tell which was louder depending on the tape you watch. If you were in a section of booers the booing would be loud. If you were in a section of clapping the clapping would be loud.

From the Videos the booing is clearly evident. But there is also clapping evident audibly and visusally. Without a way to scientifically measure the amounts of each from the entire crowd and not just the section the cameras were in... what do you want them to report exactly?

If they said she met with boos only, they'd be attacked by people saying that there was a lot of clapping also, which to be fair, there was.

I read the CBS piece and saw the videos. I think they accurately reported on the situation.

Doesn't change the fact that I'm voting for Obama or that I think Palin is a brown stain of epic fail. But there were plenty of idiots clapping for her.

i'm surprised they even said a healthy mix of boos and cheers...

we all know NBC is busy trying to get back on the GOPers' good side...$$$$$$.

Dear President Obama and Dem controlled Congress: Please reinstate the "Fairness Doctrine", through the FCC, as soon as possible. Thanks.
  • AdrianBrowne · 1 year ago
When I hear a "healthy mix of boos and cheers" I assume that is just the polite way of saying "the crowd booed."

For some reason they have to put a fig leaf over everything -- as if people are so fragile they can't handle a little boo-ing.

That ends up making it worse than it is. It's like bleeping out a word that doesn't need bleeping out.

The media has been playing this trick for quite a while. They refuse to report the truth if it makes Republicans look bad. For instance, if a Republican passes out blow jobs at airport bathrooms, like Larry Craig, or tries to have sex with underage pages, like Tom Foley, then they will bring up some kind of "apples to oranges" comparison like a Democrats, gasp, was found with money in an ice box in his office!!!!

    Its ABSOLUTE bullshit.

Apparently AP doesn't talk to itself

    http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gyXVIfZ2F2CT...

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Sarah Palin is hoping John McCain's campaign isn't on ice, but that's exactly where the GOP vice presidential nominee was Saturday in Philadelphia.

Palin was booed when she first stepped on the ice before the Flyers' home opener against the New York Rangers to drop the ceremonial first puck. Palin, the Alaska governor and self-described "hockey mom," is trying to turn Pennsylvania into a red state.

When you break it all down:

90 - 95% of the crowd were hissing and booing
5 - 10% of the crowd were cheering

I happen to agree if 90 - 95% of the crowd were reacting negatively to Sarah Palin THAT, INDEED, is a "healthy mix."

If it were 50-50% that would be an unhealthy mix.

I just heard Shuster on MSNBC say that any politician would have been booed in Philadelphia. Uh, I don't think so. Obama or Biden would have been CHEERED LOUDLY by 90 - 95% of the crowd.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Only in the world of Roger Ailes can booing be a "healthy" thing. The rationale: the guys just got caught up in the excitement of a lusty, manly game and weren't booing Palin per se, but just the fact that the game got delayed a little bit by a woman the guys would ordinarily consider a MILF.

Sarah Six-Pac is not competent for high office.

    Period.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Sarah is trying to hold another hate rally.

Oh, here we go AGAIN! She is trying to pretend military veterans support McCain even though he scored a D versus Obama's B in this Army Times report card on supporting veteran's issues.

    http://www.armytimes.com/news/2008/10/military_...

The army times report card is really a VERY unexploited issue. I'm REALLY, REALLY tired of hearing people like Sarah Palin lie about Republican support of the troops, and publically thank veterans at her hate rallies. Democrats should be smacking them down every single time they try to spread that propaganda crap about their support of the troops.

No mention that Bristol was there as well...not looking very pregnant nor accompanied by the endearing Levi. Why didn't the media mention this? They were all over Piper. Inquiring minds ask...
  • Moderation · 1 year ago
Why do they always play "fair" with the news? Because "liberal media bias" is a total load of crap. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever, that the media as a whole, and the individuals within the media, are looking at the bottom line. The owners, because of kickbacks or the bending of political will to suit their agendas, the employees because there jobs, and the perks, advancement, and so on within said jobs are on the line. Period. Moreover, the cable "news" media, thanks to FOX, knows that they have zero obligation to report the truth. They can, in fact, blatantly lie (i.e. conduct actual propaganda) with no repercussions outside of the occasional boycott of products advertised on specific shows. "Fair and balanced" really means "The truth must be given approximately the same amount of airtime as lies, and we ain't tellin' you which is which, suckers.". The media in this country is currently very sick, sick, sick. It's ridiculous, and it desperately needs to be stopped. It is one of the major reasons we are where we are today in this country. The media must be legally obligated to tell the TRUTH in news, cable or no. Else, we're NOT getting out of this hole any time soon. And the right-wingers who own most of the media in this country damn well know it.

Boos they are. Unfortunately for us , the media sucks.
  • KISSman · 1 year ago
Just because there were a few scattered cheers does not mean that the audience was a 50/50 mix. It was a lot closer to 80/20 -- or worse. That's outright booing.

I think the problem is that if you go by the TV feed, you don't get the full scope of the booing (since they tried to cover it with blaring music). Once you see the videos from the audience members, you can see the true reality of the situation.
  • kattywacky · 1 year ago
First Read is usually pretty fair. Apparently the boos were much greater than the cheers, but the official video did not make it obvious. To their credit, the site DID relate the fact that Palin was using her own young daughter Piper to mollify the boos. It doesn't look good for a mom to use her 7-year old as human shield. (It's certainly revealing how often Palin uses her own family for crass political gain.)

Comparing First Read to Fox is gross exaggeration. Chuck Todd is one of the best in the business. They're not perfect, but they are NOT one of the bad guys, and it's not helpful for you to go there.

It's Ironic they're playing the Rangers. The Ranger's center, Scott Gomez, is from AK and he's definetely voting Obama.
