AMERICAblog: McCain allies worry Palin is using McCain, then will discard him

Wow, that's some mavericky Evita Peron channelling that Palin's doing.

Let's all sing along: "Oh, but it's sad when a love affair dies..."

Unfortunately, we'll be seeing the Palinistas attacking for the next 4 years, trying to tie the George Bush Legacy toxic sludgepit to Barak Obama's presidency...
  • mirth · 1 year ago
They can try. We won't let them succeed.

    Bring it on, Bitches
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Would you be as hateful if she was just another ugly woman who happened to be successful?

whoops, didn't mean to step on your Evita reference (great minds...... )
But the song that comes to mind for me is "High flying adored"
  • skeptic · 1 year ago
The last line..."in her rapid ascendance to power" may not materialize after the "real" Ameicians realize what a phony, arrogant person she really is.

I do think that she is a flash in the pan for the majority of people, other of course than the evangelical morons.

News anchor on Biden interview: 'I'm a journalist'

She is a hard core Republican and a bitch attempting to get her 15 minutes in the sun. I am really appalled at the number of individuals that will do and say anything to become famous and successful. This country has a real problem with a lack of basic integrity in our businesses, news outlets and politics. And it is getting worse as the years go by.

It will catch up with us in the long run.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
    She was a total jerk....

Here's another Republican on Joe Biden:

    Why I Like Joe

Dan Schnur, the director of the Jesse M. Unruh Institute of Politics at the University of Southern California, was the national communications director for John McCain’s presidential campaign in 2000.

I wish Joe Biden were a Republican.

Watching the Delaware senator on the campaign trail for the last several weeks has been a rare joy in an increasingly joyless campaign. Despite his deserved reputation for non-stop verbosity, Mr. Biden is engaging, interesting and enthusiastic. He talks to working-class voters without condescending, and he summarizes his ticket’s policy agenda in a more succinct and understandable manner than either of the presidential nominees.

  • grandma · 1 year ago
I’ve heard from one well-placed source that McCain has snubbed her on one long bus ride aboard the Straight Talk Express, to the embarrassment of those sitting nearby.

I think we've discovered the truth about these two people these last two months: she is indeed, in the words of a McCain aide, a "whack-job." He is indeed an asshole. Whackjob-Asshole 2008!

Wow, a power and money-hungry Republican. I'm stunned.
  • fostert · 1 year ago
Yeah, but where's she going with this? Her campaign has essentially discredited her as a real candidate. Her only real chance is for Stevens to resign (forced or not), and then Palin replacing him with herself. She's get six free years to figure out her positions on issues, and maybe go from there.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
fostert - I think you're on to something here. I don't believe she'll replace Stevens (if he wins) with herself - but someone she knows she can beat in the next round. Hard to say what a pyscho whack job is thinking - but I think you might have hit on the fact that Palin and Stevens are probably in cahoots with ea. other.

On the other hand its hard to imagine (not really I suppose) that Alaskans would vote for a convicted felon. No doubt if Stevens did win, the Senate would immediately throw him out. Better to replace Stevens now, and then there is a chance a rePIG may win next week - hard to say - Stevens may have enough sympathy from the cowboys in Alaska to win - when it comes to Alaska its anybody's guess.
  • fostert · 1 year ago
"when it comes to Alaska its anybody's guess."

Yup. I'm staring to think there will be a protest vote. Republicans voting for Stevens just to piss Obama off.
  • GeeBee · 1 year ago
Palin's rise to power? You must be joking.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
Exactly my sentiment. The GOP is going to be in the ditch for the next 16 years. Palin is an illusion - she represents a past that will be long gone when the next generation of right wingers finally get their act together. The GOP of the 1950s is finally in its death throes - of course they raped and pillaged the treasury on their way out.

    I'm thrilled about this~

    from Atrios:

Obama's going on Maddow on Thursday. I think this is a good thing, and not just for the obvious reasons. A consequence of the fact that our media ranges from the New Republic to the Free Republic is that Democratic politicians, except those who venture onto Democracy Now, almost never get challenged from the left.

Palin is not rapidly ascending to power. The woman needed an administrator to help her run a town of 8k people. This is blatant incompetence. She thinks she's going to dump mccain when this is over??!?! LAFF! After this election she will be dumped by every republican who ever wants to be elected ever again. This woman is stupid beyond belief. The campaign won't let her talk to any press for a reason. I keep hearing about how smart she is from various republicans and then she opens her mouth and proves them all wrong. There is a word for what palin does it's called double speak.

on a side note this disqus commenting system is total shit. it takes forever to load the comments page and why do I need my comment highlighted??!?!?! It's at the top of the list and i know what i wrote. Maybe incompetent tools like busboy can't maintain a train of thought, but for people w/ IQs over 75 and most monkeys it's not a problem to hit ctrl f and search for my handle to see what I wrote. Sure haloscan crashed at times, but this new system is junk.

Palin rendering men helpless? I'm only going to say this once. BUSBOY STOP SMOKING CRACK. It is making you dumber than you already were.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Dumber than I already were? Shouldn't there be an IQ threshold below which you aren't even allowed to vote?

Typical Bitch... Use them then leave them. Hey honey, don't forget to take the money too. Now I know why I will never vote for a woman for president. Their upkeep in elections is just as bad as in real life.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
A woman's treatment of men is usually, but not always, a reflection of how they have been treated. Palin's husband seems to be proud of his wife and not jealous of her popularity. Maybe the waters are deep and we aren't seeing the whole picture?
  • Wesinoregon · 1 year ago
I think there is a lot we aren't seeing. And I'm not fooled.

This is an important news item. It can be characterized as one of the loudest metastatements heard thus far in which the message is that the GOP created a veritable monster by releasing Palin into the national spotlight. And some of McCain's staffers are correct in being concerned about Palin. Looking at her history, it's certain that, if given the opportunity, she will do EXACTLY what she's done before, which is to bite off the hand that feeds her. Why? BECAUSE IT WORKS FOR HER.

Palin isn't in the spotlight because she's a dedicated public servant. She's in the spotlight because she's a sociopath and she knows how to objectify people while projecting warmth and "promise." Her political history gives little room for doubt that Palin has no principles, no sense of common decency, and no compassion for anyone. She will smile while she's slitting your throat.

Look at Palin's facial expressions while she's in front of the camera. Look at the control. Sense the entitlement. She would be far worse than Bush. She'd be Cheney-- with more ambition by orders of magnitude.

If I were a GOP insider with clout, I would want to make damn sure that her legal problems in Alaska become as devastating to Palin as possible. With so much Republican influence in Alaska, there shouldn't be a problem with making it happen. She needs to be put back in her bottle.
  • mdw0526 · 1 year ago
That was the most amazing explanation I've heard so far about exactly what needs to happen.

The GOP powers-that-be know that they cannot let her be the leader of the Republican Party after this. She would totally destroy it (more than she already has). They are going to do everything they can to get rid of her, especially since she really did help take down the entrenched Republicans in Alaska.

    They want their revenge.
  • Wesinoregon · 1 year ago
I agree. I don't doubt a story like that because it fits her. As I told others. Google the 14 points of fascism. They ALL fit. I used to be a Republican but not now. I see dangers in that party.
  • Eyeball_Kid · 1 year ago
We can now see how the Constitution is supposed to work (because we now know when it's being violated). It is designed to LIMIT power. Both Bush and Palin have been, and are, interested in usurping the Constitution with autocratic rule. Bush clearly has done so for 8 years, and Palin, on a smaller scale, once told a colleague that, "I'm mayor and I'll do what I want until the courts tell me that I can't." That's Sarah Palin.

This reminds me of how terrible a job the Congress has done in the past 2 years (not to mention the diabolical Republican years). One of the ways to avoid the emergence and possible dominance of a Bush or Palin is for Congress to do its job. Oh, sure, we should all know about the resistance of Blue Dog Democrats, but still, there was hardly a whimper as the legislative branch got run over and flattened by the Bushites. What a shameful display of ineptitude (or a skillful display of enabling).

  • lark83 · 1 year ago
All this assumes she has the brain power to go places, and I don't believe she does. I think she will have a heck of a time getting re-elected governor of Alaska. The troopergate thing has hurt her, and its still not over yet as we await a potentially more damning 2nd investigation being carried out by a democratic investigator. That 2nd investigation has the power to levy fines or other punishment.

Her interviews with Katie Couric have showed her to be the intellectual lightweight that she is. And Tina Fey's impersonation has made her a national joke.

The public doesn't forgive easily. Dan Quayle came off as a lightweight when Bush sr introduced him, and he could never overcome it. And Quayle never did or said anything as stupid as Palin has.

I think you guys are seriously over-rating her.
  • Wesinoregon · 1 year ago
This creature is dangerous and needs to be stopped.
  • Eyeball_Kid · 1 year ago
Palin is an opportunist. She's smart alright. She's not educated, but she doesn't have to be. She merely has to be ruthless, she has to have a strong presentation of confidence, and she has to sense a confluence of her persona with the position that she is trying to obtain-- the presidency. She has a vision of herself at the seat of Power.

It is true that she may miss her opportunity because of her legal, ethical, and/or public relations problems. But if she sees an opening and nothing is holding her back (remember her recollection of "getting the phonecall"?), she'll move full steam ahead.

There were a lot of people who thought, during the 2000 election campaign, that Bush's critics were over-rating him.
  • laketahoeblue · 1 year ago
I have no respect for Palin, but I don't understand the premise of this article. Palin may be using McCain, but I don't get this concern with her "discarding" him after the campaign is over and they have lost. They are not married. What should she be expected to do with her relationship with McCain after the election is over? They would only naturally go their separate ways then, for what reason would she have to maintain her relationship with McCain. Discard him? They'll just go their separate ways, as all losing presidential and vice presidential candidates tend to do. I'm not trying to defend Palin, I just don't see the logic in the point the article is trying to make.
  • Eyeball_Kid · 1 year ago
There will be a rhetorical dismissal of Palin as the candidate who lost it for McCain as well. But Palin is the hungrier of the two, and is already positioning herself as the heir to the Republican throne. However, it's unlikely that there are people now willing to ride her wave into national office, given her true history of biting off the hand that feeds her.
