AMERICAblog: McCain campaign uses hurricane to attack Obama, while Obama gives McCain a pass

  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Davis' comments, like the entire McCain campaign, are one below the belt cliché after another.
  • mattonium · 1 year ago
The only reason I can think of for Obama's side being silent is that a Sunday over a holiday weekend is pretty slow news-wise. Most people aren't paying much attention. If they don't start hitting back by tomorrow, or tuesday, that would be a bad sign.

If they were smart, they would fly out to florida tomorrow and give a speech in honor of Labor Day.

I have to agree 100%....why the Obama campaign gives McCain these breaks is beyond me...putting all the above mentioned in John's post into a 30 ad would be brilliant....i cannot understand why the Dem's always act like such pussies!

Maybe someone on the scene will yell FUCK YOU SENATOR McCAIN into a live FOXNEWS mic....there is a precedent.

The repugs are playing this according to plan. Make the Democrats afraid to say anything against the repugs that might be construed as "attacking." Biden will be hindered from actually debating Palin for fear of sounding like he is attacking her, a woman no less. How many times do the Democrats have to be drug through the mud because of what they do or not do??? The repugs will make something out of nothing regardless of the route we take. We cannot afford to go easy at the debates. Regardless if our opponents are senile or simple; take your pick. Remember the Rev. Warren debate? We were snookered once, please not again!
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Biden doesn't have to say anything to Palin at the debates, just shake his head when she says something stupid.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Ha, good one!! I can totally see that!

Perhaps he will throw in a "I know Hillary Clinton, and you Madam are no Hillary Clinton". LOL!!
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Yeah, give her an understanding nod of approval. The same thing you'd do around a child playing with legos.
  • LeesiD · 1 year ago
I really do think that Biden will do great in the debate. He will make it be the reason that Palin is not fit to serve as VP. She keeps touting how she is going to rumble the "good ole boys club"......Biden will definitely hold her to that, she is playing in the league now, and Biden will rightfully let her know that.

Interesting comment from the CBC in Minneapolis: Expect to see a lot of Laura Bush at the convention, since she's the only GOPer with positive approval ratings. "O, sacred human life!"
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Maybe the cameras will catch her chain smoking in the corner...
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Not to be all contrary and stuff, but Obama and his top staff seem to know what they are doing.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
I think it's just the whole convention unknowns, the hurricane, etc. I would guess that after this week, things will be back to an even playing field. At least I HOPE so...
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
I'm inclined to agree, even though OB-man pisses me off sometimes. The Republicans always put him in a no-win situation. He can ride this one out by taking action to help, raising money, talking to the people that count. He then could tell the world of his support, and explain that he didn't want to be the center of attention at a time like this. It's taking the high road and will sell better than if he shows up for a photo-op.
  • jixter · 1 year ago
Well, John, you have a lot more access to O'Bama's peeps than we do. Aren't they, like, AWARE of this? I keep hoping that there is some genius, uber-strategy at work in O'Bama's 'hood that is taking account of all these twists and turns in the Campaign, but more than half the time - truth to be told - I'm pulling my hair out in despair.

It is very easy for me to imagine McCain winning the election - and that thought sickens me to no end.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
jixter, there is a reason Mcnut is so desperate. He is losing, big time.
I wouldn't worry too much about Obama not attacking back quite yet. I am sure if Obama feels he is losing, he will come out guns blazing,.
  • jixter · 1 year ago
Thanks, A_A_Karol! I needed somebody to pet me and say it'd be ok! I feel better already.

    From the article linked:

Republicans see the storm as another opportunity to paint McCain as somebody who, even to the detriment of his own campaign, is willing to sacrifice his political interests for a larger good.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    What a pile of bull........

Straight out of Rove's playbook...."County First'......even if it's not true....keep the meme going.

    McSame is a total fraud........
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Agreed, grandma. The hurricane is saving McCain the embarrassment of the Republican convention after the success of the Democratic one. He is tickled about the hurricane.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Freakin liars....I can't believe so many are buying the bullshit AGAIN
  • dad · 1 year ago
    republicans will use anything.

    the difference.
they act and worry about the consequence, if you can prove it, later.
we think about the consequences, make sure we can defend it, and act later.

    there you have it.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Unfortunately I think you are right.

The last time the McCain campaign pulled this they had little old ladies swearing Obama was not patriotic. It works, it resonates with many people. Obama had better toughen up if he wants to fight the RNC and McCain. They are pros at spinning and twisting.

Using clips of Hillary Clinton, the RNC has put out another negative but effective ad against Obama's experience. Has Clinton EVER retracted her very words, the words that are now biting her in the butt. This clip shows her saying that only she and McCain are experienced enough to be president and Obama is a good speech writer.

So in one day they have questioned his experience and patriotism. Now if Obama pounded back, I haven't heard it. He must not let them define him, people undecided will believe what they see and hear. Being silent on these attacks is not going to win this election.,

Being silent on these attacks is not going to win this election.,

No it's not.....and it is painful to watch right now.

advice from my 16 year old son.

    "the republicans are fucked."
"she was a deperate move. It was last minute, they didn't even vet her."
on the hurricane bounce question: "if it was tied maybe, but he's holding an 8-point lead."
"they needed a good convention more than the democrats did."
"when are they gonna introduce sarah palin, when she gets her ass kicked in a debate?"

    *kids*
  • dad · 1 year ago
    forgot.
regarding the lack of vetting: "they figured she's only got 20 months experience, how much trouble could she be?")

Anybody want to bet about how long it takes AP to launder Rick Davis's statement?
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
AND I had better stop hearing Senator Biden brag he is "friends with John McCain." Ya know, I could give a rat's ass!!! In fact, I'd rather Biden NOT be McCain's friend and then I might think he would PUT COUNTRY FIRST by ensuring he and Obama win by not saying a DAMNED NICE THING about McCain. I've yet to hear McCain say anything really NICE about our candidates but it seems to me as if the Democrats don't think they can criticize McCain without saying sweet things about him. The Democratic people have spoken. We are tired of NICE! NICE doesn't win.

    said well
  • msirt · 1 year ago
Gustav's not cooperating. Seems the storm's starting to fizzle & McCain will arrive in NOLA with not much drama and the whole business looking more like the political stunt it is.

I sort of admire Obama's not mixing with the hurricane stuff too much. He stands to be more vulnerable to charges of "politicizing" the hurricane issue than "John McHurricain", IMHO.
  • LeesiD · 1 year ago
You know, now is not the time to get negative or cynical, and I am glad that Obama is acting like the grownup here. Whenever the reputation of McCain is or has the potential to be an issue, the McCain campaign turns to a diversionary tactic, to divert attention away from John McCain, and attempt to project those faults onto his opponent. We have no idea what sort of counter punch the Obama campaign and the Democrats were planning for the GOP convention, so let's not jump to conclusions~
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Agreed. I think the dems have something up their sleeves. Stay on track and keep tying McCain and Bush together.
  • Oldnovice · 1 year ago
Yeah; there was an older woman (and now I'm an older woman) who once said on a forum: "There's really no need to suggest that some poster is an asshole, as the other posters have read the same things you've read." I think the same holds true in politics. It's not as though everyone's blind but YOU. Everyone sees the same things. They might respond differently, but it's not as though they didn't see it.
  • stash · 1 year ago
LeesiD is exactly right. Obama is acting like a grownup, and the price for acting like a grownup is not winning the news cycle. Get used to it, because this is how he's going to govern, and we should all be thankful for that.

Meanwhile, he's come out saying he plans to mobilize his email list for donations. He's been in contact with Jindal, expressing his desire to not tie up emergency resources with an impromptu visit. And has anyone forgotten that he pitched in when the Midwest flooded?

    http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/8/31/125...

Why aren't people hearing about this? It's the "liberal" media, natch.

A whole lot of people on the left seem to want Obama to wave his magic wand and eradicate the right-wing bias in the media, but it ain't gonna happen. Call the effing networks yourselves if you're that concerned.
  • AdmNaismith · 1 year ago
Wasn't Obama calling down to Miss., himself? I never even understand why Govs and President even tour disaster areas. All the good they can do is done at the stroke of a pen from their offices.

As Senators neither of these two can do anything, unless they'd like to vote on the work of the Corps of Engineers to make sure they have the money, and the tools, and are doing the work to spec...
  • BajaJohn1 · 1 year ago
McCain attacking Obama's patriotism confirms that McTush is an idiot.
