Ummmm, this line of defense probably has more to do with him drawing a 100% VA disability in addition to his senate salary and social security.... I'm pretty sure (since my ex is drawing 100% VA disability) that you have to have lost several limbs, be paralyzed or severely mentally ill, or have some debilitating disease to qualify for a 100% VA disability determination.... in other words you have to be UNABLE to work or hold a job.

In other words, their defense is not about the computer, it's about playing up the disability.

Someone may be questioning how it is that McCain gets the benefit of this when no one else does.
  • moseao · 1 year ago
"I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need."

Does this not mean that he previously was unable to get the information that he needed? McCain is really good at giving us quotable material, and the Obama camp absolutely needs to become better at exploiting it.

Here's a "flyover country" short piece that may explain Obama's disconnect with the rest of the country:

That was better than the "hubba, hubba, hubba" song you posted on the other string.

They can't do a Velvet Underground song to save their lives, tho.

Their version of "There she goes again"

The original version by the Velvet Underground:

B_B, I like the Beat Farmer's version the best. Can you imagine what a raucus Obama campaign ad it would make if they flicked Sarah's pic up everytime they sang "there she goes again"?

Every time the McCain campaign mentions he was a POW, we need to mention that he thinks the treatment he received was appropriate. He voted to legalize that treatment, after all. And we shouldn't call it torture, because most Americans believe that whatever torture is, it's not what we do. Instead, we need to explain that what was done to McCain is what we are doing now. And, in fact, we're doing even worse things. The sympathy for John McCain should be turned against him. He should be portrayed as the person beating his former self. And if McCain thinks that's unfair, so what. If he hadn't voted to support these kind of interrogation techniques, he wouldn't be open to this argument.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Oh sheeshhh ...spare me....so we're supposed to feel sympathy for poor old Johnny.....who probably couldn't be trusted to handle a 3:00 A.M. phone call if he is so incapacitated.

They toss out lies like flies....and play the victim card if confronted with their inadequacies.

Oh what a tangled net he reads, when practiced first a truth deceived...

What I get out of his line of defense is that people with disabilities can't use computers. Whatever happened to adapt and overcome? His POW line sounds like an excuse to not join the real world. Great fucking message to all those disabled vets out there.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
You can't do it, my friends. I'm John McCain and I approve this message.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Basically John McCain's POW past prevent him from being anything other than an insufferable old crumudgeon with poor judgment.

New Evidence: Palin Had Direct Role In Charging Rape Victims For Exams
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jacob-alperinsher...

By the way, John C. Stein, the previous mayor of Wasilla (before Sarah Palin), was also a Republican, though the office was and continues to be non-partisan. Mayor Stein was defeated by Sarah Palin in a campaign that brought in the NRA, Republican partisans, and a whisper campaign that Mayor Stein was Jewish (he is a Christian, but is "proud of such a reputation"). He now runs the Sitka Sound Science Center, a marine research facility in Sitka, Alaska.

So it seems that she is fully versed in whisper campaigns, especially with an ANTI SEMITIC bent.

Palin's role is now confirmed by Wasilla City budget documents available online.

A brief explanation of why Obama won't take any southern states. All of the people on the video who haven't died of airplane crashes, natural causes or overdoses are now voters in their 50's:

Never was much of a fan of Lynard Skynard, but I did like the first lines to "Smell of Death."

    "Whiskey bottle,

    brand new car,

    Oak tree,

    you're in my way."
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
So, McCain's not even claiming this, but a bunch of Wingnut bloggers led by Drudge are claiming it on his behalf?

    That's pretty funny.

    yep
  • 1970cs · 1 year ago
The flipside to the POW card is he physically or mentally capable of holding the job as President? The laundry list of POW excuses more likely qualifies him for assisted living.

This is from a 1997 article in the NY Times.....and I'm sure much has improved since that time.

    Computers and the Disabled

''Technologies That Enable the Disabled'' (Sept. 14) offered much-needed information about the valuable tools now available. I would add that computers in our schools play vital roles in helping many individuals with disabilities successfully complete their educations.

Closing the Gap, in Henderson, Minn., is an organization that publishes a directory of information about virtually all the known computer devices available to make computers accessible for individuals with disabilities

Really funny when you check McShame's committee assignments in Congress. He chaired one of the technology committees.
  • mf_roe · 1 year ago
McShame's POW injuries did NOT keep him from being classified as fit for duty after returning from Vietnam. He even had flight status after his return, so his 100 % rating now is just more proof of his corrupt cheating nature. Turns my stomach every time a Dem thanks McShame for his HEROIC service.

NO WONDER CINDY IS ALWAYS AT HIS SIDE, I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE, IF HE IS COLLECTING HIS SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK, HIS VETERAN'S DISABILITY CHECK, HE PROBABLY REQUESTED A PROVIDER AND CINDY IS ALSO COLLETING MONEY FOR THAT. I LIKE TO THINK OF CINDY AS MCCAIN'S AMERICAN EXPRESS, NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT HER.
  • grueningmorse · 1 year ago
As indefensible as McCain's computer illiteracy may be, and as well as it may play with many younger and middle-aged voters, it is a losing argument with seniors who vote in very large numbers. Many (most?) seniors are not very computer literate either. Better to remind seniors about McCain and Republican attempts to privatize social security, than belittle McCain on this issue.

The computer issue also does not necessarily play well with downscale voters who can't afford a computer. Better to talk about wages, health care, etc.
  • reelactor · 1 year ago
I went to Ace of spades, and they posted this excuse for McCain and his inability to comb his hair, type, or tie his shoes.
"McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes."
So I posted a video of McCain saluting, and argued that if you can salute, you can comb your hair, and posted another video of him shaking hands, and made the comment that "how can you say you can't type, if you shake over a thousand hands a day?" I told them I couldn't verify the tying the shoes problem, but those $520 Ferragamo loafers sure made it easier.

WHEN MCCAIN CAME TO WASHINGTON, HE CAME, HE SAW, AND HE LIKED WHAT HE SAW. WHEN OBAMA CAME TO WASHINGTON: HE CAME, HE SAW, HE HAS DECIDED TO CHANGE WHAT HE SAW. THAT IS WHY I AM VOTING FOR OBAMA/BIDEN. SMART AND CARING PEOPLE SHOULD VOTE FOR OBAMA, WANABES SHOULD VOTE FOR SARAH/MCCAIN

Nice comments from you, but would you please do us all a favor and hit your caps loc key? All caps are hard to read and it's poor netiquette.
  • smiling_dog · 1 year ago
If McCain or his lobbyist surrogates try to pass this one off, it is high time to start mocking his POW excuse for every occasion.
  • DrFrankLives · 1 year ago
I don't understand how comments work here, as this is sometimes here and sometimes not, but I put a pretty good hurting on this stupid argument on my blog:

The ad comments on the fact that McCain doesn't KNOW how to send an email or use a computer. While he might not be able to, that isn't what the ad is claiming. The ability to do so vs. the knowledge to do so is different. The fact still remains: he doesn't KNOW how to use a computer or send an email. Once again, people are missing the point. While I think it's ridiculous in this day and age, he's so old and out of touch I honestly don't expect him to know this. It's probably reason number 402 why he shouldn't be president. There are many other issues that are ahead of this one but you can add it to the long list of why he shouldn't be president. Anyone that likes McCain really better like Palin since she will be running the country when he kicks it. McCain is so old he should not be buying green bananas.
