Panic
"......it was a really bad idea for Bush and McCain to get on the teevee and inform the country that the financial system was about to collapse and that (in McCain's version) we could be in a Depression by Monday."

or a really good idea if the plan is to panic the public and introduce confusion all around. That worked perfectly! Even Letterman got upset.

"Erratic" is establishmentarian middle class lingo for "clinically insane."

I would use the word "impulsive" than "erratic" I think there is a method to McCain's madness, the problem his intent isn't well thought out.

From part 2 of the CBS interview with Palin, watch 6:10 into the video where the hockey mom mask is taken off and she loses the talking points to reveal her real religious right identity
Old men and trailer trash should not be allowed to govern this nation... hell, republicans should not be allowed to govern!
One doesn't reward failure in there kids, there loved ones, there co-workers or there employees... thus it should hold true that failure in governance should not be rewarded! Thus the fewer republican returned to congress the better!

McCain needs to have his head examined. I don't mean that as a snide comment. With his left eye being affected, his lethargy and the hiring of an expensive Hollywood make-up artist--McCain really needs to go to the hospital for a complete examination. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. The thought of him having metastatic melanoma of the head is scary, not only because of what he would do--but what Palin would do, should she become president.

From NBC's Mark Murray Frank Fahrenkopf, co-chairman of the Commission on Presidential Debates, tells Newsweek's Tammy Haddad at the Memphis Airport that he will know by noon if the first presidential debate will take place. If McCain does not come by law there will be no debate because it is an "illegal contribution."
When asked what the absolutely drop dead time is he replied, "the final sweep by 5:00 pm."
only one candidate has been 'inside the beltway' for the last 2 days. the impression voters are getting is that mccain is anything but an outsider or above the fray, contrary to his latest campaign mythology. he is being meddlesome ontop of erratic.

McCain is going to be TIRED and cranky at the debate. There's no way in hell he's going to let Obama get a free, 2 hour commercial to a hundred million Americans glued to their TV sets. McCain will show up, exhausted from all these theatrics he initiated.

ERRATIC is a relatively kind way of saying McCain is batshit crazy. Perhaps as has been suggested Gramps needs to have a complete exam mental and physical by an impartial team WITH THE RESULTS FULLY RELEASED AND INTERPRETED TO THE PUBLIC. The little charade a few months ago with the three hour limit and the select group of press was and is useless. Clearly, whatever it is, McCain CANNOT be allowed to hide his condition. As it is, no thinking person is going to vote for this team with Gramps in failing health, and the Wasilla Wacko increasingly being revealed as a dangerously incompetent radical conservative. .

Since mccain is using the bailout as cover as to why he isn't going to debate, why doesn't the Dems announce that they are closing the house and senate on each day of the presidential and vice-president debate? No negotiations will take place on those days.
Steve_in_CNJ

the chancellor at ole miss is saying they will turn the debate into a town-hall meeting for Obama, with questions from the audience. that can't be good for mccain. but the university has spent millions preparing for this. there is a press corps of thousands. the clock is ticking. and if mccain shows, he will be exhausted and incoherent.

ok. now they're *hinting* that McCain will do the debate...since McMonkeyWrench is confident Congress is working on the bailout plan, you know...wink wink...
....scathing public letter to Senator John McCain for opening his generally well-received stop at an Irish-American event in Scranton with a joke about drunk Irish twins.
"Senator, I was not the only one offended and I received numerous complaints from a variety of people throughout Pennsylvania and other parts of the country. On behalf of these people, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and myself and my family, I wish you would refrain from demeaning the Irish or any other ethnic group by telling such jokes in the future. I think an apology is in order to those millions of Irish in the United States who were offended by your joke."
Erratic - 1. Without a fixed or regular course; wandering. 2. Irregular or uneven in character or quality. 3. Unconventional; odd; eccentric.
Yep, that's the type of leader we want with his finger on the button... NOT!

Did he get a psychological review when he returned from being a POW?
Does he has PTSD?? ADD??
Seriously....I think he is responding to stress and crisis like he did when he was a POW.....that may have served him well then, but I don't think that response is appropriate now....
I want to see his be presidential....not Mavericky!

Good morning...well, I said it before, many times in the last few years as a matter of fact, but in spite of providing "liquidity" to aling Wall St with $700 billion from the US Treasury, this country is in for another Great Depression, since it really isn't liquidity that's the problem, it's insolvency. There are 1,000+ banks on the verge...you don't hear about them in all of this gaming, but WaMu is the larqest, of course. Another big bank to watch is Wachovia...it's in trouble, so will JP Morgan buy it? Do we really want this kind of bank consolidation which will mean more pain down the road?
Frankly, I'm of 2 minds about this--personally, if my son doesn't get wok, we're toast if nothing is done. But like many other Americans in the same position, even though I hate the thought of bailing out the greedheads which have been screwing us for years, and even if this happens, there is no guarantee that jobs won't still be lost--as in Hanes Corp which is laying off 700 in NC right now. Job losses go on, even as DC dithers.
