They don't understand Miss Cindi's new ghoul image is to go with Insane McBush3's new even more ghoulish and truly frightening full-fang little smile. Miss Cindi is "all woman" and in her own little way helping to set back the feminist movement 50 to 100 years along with bitch Clinton and teaser Nancy "Its off the table" Pelosi. With any luck it will be at least another 200 years before anyone suggests another female Speaker. Major dissapointment!

It won't make him sensitive to gay issues when his gay staffers are probably willing to sell their self respect for their positions. I would imagine they are involved in the brainstorming sessions when coming up with new ideas to use gays as a wedge issue--who else knows us better than ourselves?

Having a gay senior staffer on his staff is like OJ simpson hiring a woman attorney. It's for looks and PR and sympathy. More than likely the guy may be a really good person at what he does and I don't think he was hired because he was gay. Real republicans hire people without worrying about their after-hours proclivities. Just as long as those Republicans get what they pay for. (there's a pun in there somewhere) ;-)

So let me get this straight. When Kerry runs for president and endorses not one but two state marriage amendments (Massachusetts and Missouri), that's just playing the necessary political game. And all you lefties voted for him. But when McCain says he also opposes gay marriage and endorses a state amendment, he's the epitomy of anti-gay evil and under the spell of James Dobson. Can we spell double standard?
And then the other half of the comments are by tacky queens and misfits attacking how McCain and his wife look. This is a really classy crowd.

John McCain has been gay friendly and gay supportive, in private, for decades. I knew someone who worked on his staff, so to speak, years ago when he was a representative. When he had family trouble based on coming out McCain was supportive and good to him beyond just the motions. He is known as a decent guy, among those who would work for him. Known to have many gay staff, so to speak, over the years, and by his actions he is as gay friendly as can be. In private.
I think the motivations of the gay staffers is that they would rather work with someone they know, or they think they know is decent in real life and has a longstanding reputation than someone who says what they want to hear but doesn't actually do it in person. DC is a SMALL TOWN in that regard. Much less than the standard six degrees of separation exists between all staffers, gay or straight, and most gay men who live there than the standard separation between all actors and Kevin Bacon.
John's observation about the "Rainbow Cabal" has extreme merit. - I constantly hear all sorts of political stuff from friends and also complete strangers (read new sex partners) that turns out to be confirmably true, and I live in Florida, just visiting DC every month or so. That's just the way it is, everywhere. Politics from the TeeVee or interweb is one thing but the personal anecdote rules. McCain is anecdotally consistently and comfirmably as gay friendly as they get.
All of course in the closet, sorta. In "private." That guys talk about...
Very weird, but true. However a one-way information leak doesn't balance out whatever McCain might do in public! I personally think the gay staffers are just a bit too close to the problem itself, but then that's in their chosen job description. Kinda like a lawyer who has to defend the guilty. Except Lawyers are sworn to confidentiality. I think they treat McCain and especially the closeted they serve like "family." Except of course you do not choose your family, and must deal with them, and you do choose your job and career.
Because of the anecdotes I always thought well of McCain even though he was way too conservative, until he went and toadied up to the religions reich. (And had rolled over to Rove attacking his brown baby.) He publicly jumped the shark in 2000, and made me realize I do not know who he is, and I probably never did - though through the anecdotes I thought it was reasonable to assume he actually had the character he appears to completely lack now. "Reasonable assumption" and "politician" should never go together, I know, but such is the power of Anecdote.
He is an extremely strange contradiction. Yet the DC grapevine WILL always have some idea what is going on with him in the privacy of his office, even if it is at the cost of bits of his staff's souls.

I hate to be the one to try and bring a dose of sanity to this discussion....BUT isn't it republicons who have had quite a history of supposedly having gays in their offices, gays who are so questionable as to let their senators and representatives rage on and on publically about anti-gay this and that and has it not been these silent sisters who have been outed as let us say punishment for their silence? This business with Insane McCain strikes me as business as usual. Just who are these "openly gay men" hired for senior positions? What dam good does it do for McCain or any other slimy pol to be privately " friendly to gays and their issues" when he is going to go out and publicly call for them to be castigated and made fun of all over again? Seems like ole Jonny is too busy trying to get support from the fascist evangelical right wingnuts. He'll be down on his knees sucking Dirty Dobson's dick if he thinks it would get him any support. The whole idea is just too flip-floppy to put any belief in. And ole Jonny, crook though he is; full-time charlatan that he is, knows he's got to keep in good with the hideous ghoulish android Cindi...cause thats where the money is!!! McCain has been their adversary for years, repeatedly helping kill the federal marriage amendment, supporting stem cell research, opposing them on judicial strategy, and generally just pissing them off.
