AMERICAblog: McCain is now doing local TV shows to circumvent the national media

  • Gorgonzola · 1 year ago
Uber idiot Howard Fineman said that McCain and Sarah are ducking the press just like Obama. How do people like Fineman keep there jobs. This guy should be selling hot dogs at Shea Stadium.
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
I would not eat Howard Fineman's weiner under any circumstances, even if it kept him off the tube!
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
As long as the networks don't fall for this ploy and replay the things he says in these interviews, this ploy will fail. However I fear the networks will just use the interviews of their affiliates and air them unquestioned.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
There's been a "buzz" all day about sabotage of the reading monitors at the repub convention. Supposedly both Giuliani's and Sarah's went out. Can McCain deliver a stemwinder w/o a monitor?
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
    Shadows lurking in every corner???
I saw some pretty scary folks just sitting out on the floor and a boatload of classic Rethug knuckledraggers...even some bloated old hag who was the spittin' image of Lil Orphan Annie, gone to seed, 40+ years after Daddy Warbucks passing.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
I know which one you mean. Or do they all look like that?
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
I think we have enough material here for a "country song". Might as well get rich as we watch these sordid affairs play out......
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
When the lurkers get as bad as Bill Clinton? Please, ... let me know...
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    I read that wasn't true.

Just an Internet rumour to make Sarah look smart.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
    could be......
  • catdance · 1 year ago
McCain, cutting off his nose to spite his face. Does he think the media/press needs him more than he needs them?

I say go for it McCain. We don't need you on our teevees and in our papers. Be glad not to hear one more damn thing from you between now and your concession speech.
  • scytherius · 1 year ago
He's probably MORE likely to get those questions locally. And the numbers say that not many people watch local news. What a dimwit
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
    In McCain's teevee brain it's still 1990.
Like not so Fineman, Bush heart throb David Whatever from MSNBC's painfully dull 6PM program said that Senator Obama's presser remarks this afternoon showed that Palin "had gotten under his skin". WTF???Maybe for a bully and waitress hothead like the pig-nosed David...a man with famously tissue-thin pock-marked skin.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Wow. I'm not sure if this is sexist or mean. Where's Karl?
  • catdance · 1 year ago
    "Sabotage."
    Yeah.
Like Lieberjerk's website in 2006 was hacked.
These people screw up and then blame someone else for their mistakes.
When they're not being hateful, they're lying. When they're not lying, they're whining.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
But, they decay at a constant, accelerated rate...
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
I think Obama needs to run an ad focusing only on Sarah Palin's attempts to ban books at the Wassila library. Seriously, a huge majority of Americans DESPISE such censorship and will donate tons of money to fight Palin if they learn about this. I've mentioned it to MANY people and they haven't heard about it. Not everyone reads Americablog.

This is a HUGE issue to many which Obama needs to capitalize on!
  • catdance · 1 year ago
And then one on all the programs she cut in Alaska -- including one that gave shelter to homeless, unwed mothers.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
    Agreed
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Oh God! They are doing a tribute to the 9-11 victims. I can't stand it.
TV off, time to go read. Good luck watching the speech to those of you who can stomach it.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
McPalin said in a fund raising letter that Obama-Biden Democrats are spreading vicious lies about her. Anytime she is ready to recant her shrill and mean-spirited speech we OBAMA-BIDEN Democrats will quit repeating the words she spoke in front of 37 million people.

The "girl" is just an empty pantsuit!

    Please, Team Obama!

Get Barack and Joe on every show that wants them!

This is a golden opportunity dominate the free media!

    Work the phones now !!!
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
LunaStick you just beat me to it. I was channel surfing and saw the video and oh my God. 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11

God I HATE the Republicans....turning the channel now to something else...

Funny though, I did get into it in the middle but I never saw Bush's face once, Guiliani a couple of times but not Bush...
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
    Dear Lord.

What's the suicide rate in Wasilla?
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
Since she has an 80% approval rating (though I question that statistic) I would say that the remaining 20% have considered it>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Condoms to Alaska? Hmmmm. We know anyone in Alaska?

    Break the monotony already.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
Oh please, isn't that like BIRTH CONTROL? You can see by McPalin's family thatit does not work. Abstinence is a myth! Just like Nigerians trying to make you rich. Like Republicans actually giving a shit about Blacks, Hispanics, gays or any minority for that matter. Every person I have heard today commented on the sea of white faces at the convention.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
I dunno, but I read that Wasilla was the meth capital of Alaska.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Yeah, I read that too.

She left the town with a $20 million debt and a hell of the meth problem.

    Nice going, dumb fuck.

    (Is dumb fuck sexist?)

I hear Cindy's wearing sheets of beaten platinum and shoes of solid gold while walking across a carpet of Iraqi baby parts tonight...Should be very touching. On the big brother telescreen video of Olbeman hanging from a lamp post.

RNC IS NOW USING PRETEND SOLDIERS AT PRETEDS FUNERALS??????

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/04/cbsne...

WTF do these people want to turn the military against us for????
  • canuck55 · 1 year ago
Obama isn't dumb. He will not fall into the Repugs game of making the election about personalities. The election is about issues - jobs, personal debt, health care, gas prices, the Iraq occupation (it isn't a war), individual freedom, etc. Keep the election about these and Obama wins.
  • martha · 1 year ago
I so hope you are right. I'm so HOPEFUL some days, but so afraid other days that the crazies will steal it again.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
    I second that idea!
  • martha · 1 year ago
Keith Olberman just said th 911 video was over the top. Thank you Keith. The rest of the MSM just keep repeating the repug talking points. Disgraceful.
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
I just tuned in to MSNBC to hear K.O. lamenting the fact the repugs used 9/11 pics tonight. He was really upset about it. I didn't see it and don't care if I don't; how low can you get repugs? I honestly thought Giuliani would do something like that last night. What are they thinking???
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
How does he get credit for losing 3,000 people through negligence anyway?
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Saw somewhere that this is called the referee trick. If you keep claiming that they are unfair, they will start to worry that they are unfair and will start going soft on you. The MSM is being played by the Republicans for the jackasses they are, and you just wait, all will be rosy with them again.
  • martha · 1 year ago
I don't know. It may backfire. I saw Howard Fineman (no friend of the dems) on Hardball and he said the McCain campaign had accused him of calling for Palin to drop out. He said he never said that and he was really angry that they had accused him of that. We can only hope he will try harder to get out the truth.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
    It will back fire.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
"Playing the refs" is the term.
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
Why is everyone swooning over Palin and her 'great' speech. That speech was not written by her, the words were not hers, she only read them. How hard is that? Idiots rule!
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Good question. Someone did write that speech, and with her experience as a sportscaster, she was easily able to deliver it. Idiots do rule, especially the American idiots who cannot learn from their past mistakes, and keep voting again, and again, for the same crowd who continue the same policies.
Only nitwits will expect the end result to be different.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Also, her delivery was awful, and that accent and inflection is enough to make you want to slit your wrists. "Is that your friend over there in the chipper?" .....Fargo.

Seriously if I have to live with that for four years, I AM moving to France.
  • gallery · 1 year ago
Hello everyone, vicious hangover today thanks to the republican scary show last night.
    I've pre-adviled and I'm ready for tonight.

Keith O is blasting the "tribute" to 9-11. What will they do on 9-11? Dress up in freddy krueger costumes and run down the streets of every main st. USA?

If rudy didn't scare the shit out of everyone last night, nothing will.
  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
He is afraid that he will black out again when the media ask him something he is not prepped to answer.

Keep a tight eye on McCain tonight and see if it looks like his lines are being fed to him.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
....but what if we turn to stone?
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
As noted on a previous thread; Kelly O'Donnell is a whore. I didn't even know she worked for NBC, really thought she was on mcshame's staff. Ha!
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
OT: Poll on CNN.com home page. Which is better experience? Small town mayor, community organizer or no difference...
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
would a small-minded mayor make a difference in the results?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
I saw that. stupid, false choice question......In this instance Obama had twice as many people in his dueties to help than she did residents of Wasilla.....Dear god, I can't believe we are even talking about this.
  • Mark217 · 1 year ago
Tonight during McCain's speech to the White Citizens Council I am going to watch the "Law and Order" marathon on TNT. I just can't get enough of Fred Thompson's acting.

    Citizen McCain
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6cY6YAESlA

Can't wait for the scene where they age across the breakfast table...
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
I wonder how much money the Obama campaign will rake in after his speech tonight!
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
He's getting some from me! I have twenty-five American dollars in my checkbook (I think) and he's getting every one of them. I can live on soup until payday.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
    Me too.
  • DeadPhish · 1 year ago
    http://organizersfightback.wordpress.com/

Will McCain discuss the mocking of Community Organizers that Palin, and others have done?
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
Only in terms of how it affects his being a POW.
  • Gorgonzola · 1 year ago
At an age when people stop buying green bananas, McCain picks a VP that was caught on tape saying that we're fighting in Iraq for Jesus. Its time to be really afraid.
  • jescot · 1 year ago
Hold on a second John...so know in yours eyes the big dogs in the media are the best people to go after McCain? Since when do you have more faith in them. All it takes is one or two very intrepid reporters who want to make national news to break something big back asking a very difficult question that someone with a big fat paycheck might not ...It's not easy street on main street so it is a risk. Trust me I worked for a small NBC affiliate in Charlotte NC for three years and there were plenty of tough reporters that didn't get all misty eyed over interviewing a big dog.
Also please note that McCain is more likely in a small city or town to be asked kitchen table issues on the economy where he is least comfortable.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Good point. I think you have something here.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
Will the editors or station managers every allow the story to see the light of day? I believe there is political pressure on them as well or they may have their own agenda.
  • jescot · 1 year ago
Yes of course they will share and give access. Its money in the bank and exposure for a station or affiliate group. They are in a business for eyeballs and money. Even if they catch a gaffe and the management is in the tank for a part they will most likely always air the segment ...its bank baby.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Does anyone else find it odd that the neocons are placing Palin in isolation for a couple of weeks right after the convention? She claims it's to see her son off to war, but the real scoop is so they can get her boned up on how to respond to the press.

Well I can't stomache watching McSAME. So you guys will have to do the dirty work.

Good luck, and please don't go near the Koolaid.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
All afternoon yesterday KKKarl kept yelling to Sarah deep in the hole, "It puts the lotion on it's skin or it gets the hose again..."
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Love it ! I think this blog is where Leno and Letterman get most of their material.
  • HarpoSnarx · 1 year ago
I'm thinkin' Clenis tried this during his early days at 1600 and the vengeful Beltway crowd ate him alive. Great plan McSame, run against Obama AND the refs.
  • Andyz · 1 year ago
Doing local TV? McCain's a coward.
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
Why isn't Lindsy Graham in jail yet?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Good point. He should be....along w/ Rove.
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
Why do you want him in jail? What did he do?
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
We don't incarcerate gays; we cure them. Weren't you here last nite?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Did anyone catch Obama on the Orielly factor? (I know, usually I throw up a little in my mouth when I see Orielly's face.) But Obama was brilliant, truly. He has such a command of foriegn policy, I think he had old Billo charmed. It was great......GOD, I can hardly wait for the debates!!!!! They have way underestimated Obama's command of the issues. It's going to be great.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Obama has the rep of someone lacking the ability to close the deal. If that's the case? then, he's in trouble.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Well, Palin is the gift that keeps on giving. Obama had his largest fundraising day EVER after Palin's speech. TEN Million. Obama will close the deal, and it will be grand. Just watch the debates.....
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
Fineman is usually pro Obama. McCain has been doing local news for a couple of months now. I hope he explodes on a reporter for asking the right question.
  • coolcatdaddy · 1 year ago
I thought McCain had been ducking the national press in favor of the local press for some time now. He's not doing it because they're dumb - he's doing it because he can find one's that are friendly - a little donation to the campaign by someone that owns one or more stations is a good way to guarantee an "exclusive" with McCain, I'm sure.

When Obama wins this thing, we should be really pushing to get the equal time rule back for local stations. I can't watch the local news here in NC - it's all turned so damned conservative over the past couple of decades.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
I can honestly say that I would rather listen to dumbya talk than these two. McCain sounds like a castrated Clint Eastwood and That Girl is more annoying to listen to talk than the wife in Fargo.
