If Obama does not start hitting back and hitting back hard and not give a damn about the McCain camp accussing him of being a meaney, Obama WILL lose.
I initially thought how desperate McCain was to choose Palin. Well McCain realized he was going to lose if he did not shake up the election. He shook it up with Palin, a new "fresh" face and a woman.
She may be unqualified and a right-wing freak, but she is currently America's darling (not everyone of course).
I am debating whether Obama's chances of winning have sunk below 50% yet. Right now I say at best, it's 50/50.
And for those hanging on for the debates, remember Kerry had suberb debates against Bush in 2004 and still lost. Kerry, too, was to "dignified" to respond to Rovian dirt, he was "above" that. And Kerry did not have the racism baggage to deal with that Obama does.
I'm disgusted right now and on the verge of numb.

Yep, as someone else said, this is Obama's Dukakis moment. If he does not have a strong reply to the so-called "Sex-Ed" ad (other than some stupid press release), than AMericans will start to wonder - maybe it's true.
He needs to shine a bright beacon on these a*sho*es and watch the roaches scurry to other dark corners.

Palin, plucked out of nowhere, one who only speaks what's written for her, and avoids anything like a serious Press interview is what McCain has been complaining about all along---a Celebrity who's famous because she's famous.

Respectfully - and your point is?
Republicans, like weasels have adopted Obama's change theme too because their experience theme was not working.
Facts are nothing more than a nuisance. What really counts is people's perceptions and if you can lie lie lie and build a positive perception for your candidate, that's all that matters - says Rove.

NO! That is exactly what they want him to do. Obama stay out of it. That is what Move On is for. McCain has banked EVERYTHING on Saint Sarah. He better be sure nothing out there will come to light in the next 50 days. Obama needs to stay out of this. They want an angry black man more than anything else in this world. He has Obama in a box right now. That is his gain. However, he better be very sure his Saint Sarah is really Saint Sarah. If she is not then it is up to the blogs and Move on to change the game. McCain is all in. It is time for us to show our hand of FOUR ACES. Then Checkmate!

I'm not a football guy, but when you are ahead by a few points, and you do not want your opponent to score, is there not a strategy known as "run the ball"?
ie, run out the clock.
If they can keep Americans from learning anything bad about Palin in 60 days, they have won that battle. And one of their tactics is to cry foul, (sexism, sexism, the big bad press, etc).
And in some ways, the distraction over Palin is just what the doctor ordered (for McCain), it keeps the focus off the man who would be President - John McCain

Yes! In the real world, African American men have the absolute right to defend themselves against false attacks regardless of who it comes from, women, white men, or alien. Why can't Obama, as a human being, have the right to do the same? We're in the final stretch here. There will always be the idiots who will cry sexism, racism, etc. but when it comes down to it most reasonable people will see that he's fighting for his dignity, that he's NOT fighting to be mean or to attack a poor helpless woman. We need to see the real, the ethical, the reasonable Obama put himself out there and stand up for whats right. He needs to go ahead and risk going into that vulnerable "unknown" in order to accomplish that. I can guarantee that in the end more people will side with him than not. He's in a perfect position to put a stop to this madness and expose the sham that is the republican party. Enough is enough.

We all knew that this election would be a fight to the finish, Americans chose an idiot twice over 2 intelligent white men and now we want them to chose a black intelligent man over another idiot. Honestly we have to dumb this election down, because people are not connecting with bridge to nowhere stories.
This is our last chance because if McCain wins we will have more wars because every country will see us as a nation of idiots and want to challenge us every chance they get.
Milli
Despite all the worries that he'll come across a mad black man attacking a poor little white woman, etc etc etc, he needs to fight back. As children, when we saw someone stand up and confront a bully, which McCain and Palin are, we often saw that they were nothing more than cowards. Once they realize someone will fight back, they run. Its the most empowering part of childhood that someone can experience. And why will this work on McCain and Palin? Because they are still whiny children and they need to be treated as such.
Obama will gain more praise than criticism if he does it right. Maybe the media will even enjoy the spectacle of their dear right-wing cowards thrown off balance. The more hardball Obama plays now - the more airtime he'll get. He needs it NOW.
Soundboy_jeff_meanie

The problem with this, it seems to me, is the IOIYAR principal. If Obama attacks in kind the media will jump all over him as the dirtiest, most dishonest politician to ever grace the american stage. McCain and Co. just get some tut-tuting then more of the 'he said/she said', false balance bs.

I don't by this. First off, is she or is she not a pittbull? She claims she is, therefore she is fair game. Let Biden go after her. Obama doesn't need to be continueing the Sarah Palin distraction. Second, I think it is quite evident what is going on here. Even to McCain supporters. Obama has taken the high road, his opponent knows it. This is just going to tarnish McCain further, it will eventually backfire. They've got enough rope, now jump!

This ad is ridiculous. I think even if I were a Repub sympathizer I'd think this was over-the-top (or if Obama put out an ad casting McCain as a hungry wolf stalking him.) Sheesh, is this cheesy melodramatic crap actually resonating w/ voters, and if so, how long have they been eating paint chips?
AdrianBrowne

How does one "fight back" against theses really silly, substance-free ads? Perhaps the Obama campaign needs to dissect, deconstruct, and dismiss the ads (in very simple language) and really ask America why the Republicans aren't talking about issues.
ProgressiveTroll
I agree. I don't see any point in trying. Just say this ad is bs and move on. Just stick to the issues and give the specifics. I saw Biden in south St. Louis yesterday. The man was on fire, he rocked the house. He gave specifics on the issues we cared about in detail, but in plain language. He specifically mentioned the exact Chrysler plant that was closing and other businesses that were closing. You couldn't tell the guy had never lived here. He did his homework and he cared wholeheartedly. It serves no purpose for us to go off on these attacks. They have gotten utterly insane and reek of desperation. I see a major implosion of the GOP ticket coming in the next several weeks anyway. Sure the wingnuts love these stupid attack ads. That's what they are all about. Let them keep doing them I say. I don't think the Independents will stand for them much longer. Keep on track Barack and Joe, keep your messages going strong. If people hear them, they will vote Obama/Biden. Be more concerned about them trying to win governorships, they want to redistrict. Remember DeLay and Texas. They know they've lost to Obama. Let's get to work on want they are really working on.

What campaign is old Johnny watching? The first lie presents a baseless charge. The second also discredited. Then the prowling wolf footage. Then a heavily shadowed, criminal-type image of Mr. Obama with the animated words "He'll try to destroy her."
Though Johnny might be a craven second banana to the AntiChristess, he tops his cravenness yet again with a shameful spot that should be pulled at once. Of course, it is blatantly racist...The associations the spot is clearly trying to hammer with footage of a sulking on prowl wolf is the menace and associations of a modern mugging to name just one. A rape would be another. Then the beyond shameful shadowed rising top to bottom mug shot or blatant Willy Hortenizing of our very Democratic nominee. Reminds me of Time magazine's shadowed OJ cover and following brouhaha without the implied looming of Mr. Obama's rising image. Also the opening picture of a seemingly enraptured Mooselini...Palms open and up inside the frame and the candidate gazing beatifically upward as her image majestically slides along the screen left to right. I look forward to other people's opinions on this sick, degrading, manipulative and fallacious spot.

As long as America remains essentially white, race-baiting will always work. If Clinton had done it earlier than she did, we'd be talking about nominee Clinton right now.
Obama can mitigate the damage done by an opponent's race-baiting, but the bottom line is that white folks will always behave like white folks, and in the end buy into things like "angry black man." Obama's eventual success on this issue is largely out of Obama's hands, depending instead on the character of white America.
Which is naturally a very scary thing.

I am seeing and hearing a blowback from the media about the most dishonorable campaign being waged by McCain. Maybe sticking to the issues as Obama is doing and calling out McCain is the right strategy because Obama, in my opinion, is standing heads and shoulders above McCain.

Fer gawd's sake! Calm down people. How many times in the last 2 years has the media and pundits been telling Obama what he needs to do ....or not do.....and saying what he is doing is a big mistake. And look what happens! Obama proves to be right and the pundits and media wrong. I trust Obama in knowing what he is doing. Obama trusts the American people to know what is right and what is wrong in spite of the scurrilous, dishonorable campaign of McSame, and that Obama is the only one talking about the issues. (I do admit that I don't have as much confidence in the sanity of the American people as Obama does.) It is absolutely necessary that the media do their job and it is up to us to make sure they do.
Call me Pollyanna if you want to, but I hear waaaaayyy too much panic here.

This whole lipstick on a pig thing is being played over and over and over by the media. Every TV show this morning this was the main topic of discussion. They are so fond of bringing up the subject and then saying, 'Just let me show you this short clip!' Over and over and over. This 'short clip' has been played so much we all know it by heart. There is no new news so the media drags out something so infantile and does it to death.
Tomorrow there will be something new to catch the interest of the ill-informed public. Just sit down in front of your TV and let the talking heads (Blitzer, Scarborough, Hannity, etc) tell you what you should be believing/worrying about today. Never mind that it doesn't make any sense, it is a big thing in their little minds.

No, Obama is going to win. The debates will tell it all. Obama will trounce McCain in the debates. McCain can't even pronounce the names of some world leaders. As long as we don't have Charlie Gibson or that other guy, who I think are racists, we should do fine. I know Biden will destroy Palin in the debates. He hasn't been in Washington for all those years for nothing. He's smart and "biding" his time! The rich want McCain and the poor or middle class want Obama. At least the middle class had BETTER want Obama. Because McCain isn't going to help them one bit.
