AMERICAblog: McCain receives a "Dear John" letter

  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I've been making sales calls all day for my partner. I was exhausted but started getting fidgety watching Lou Dobbs try to trash Obama. I couldn't take it any more. I changed the station... then put it on mute... then went to barackobama.com to start calling battle ground voters. If you are like me, and have to do something ANYTHING to remain sane right now, just go here:

    http://my.barackobama.com/page/votercontact/login

Login or register... start calling people and help the campaign get out the vote.

I called my neighbor: Missourri and only had two or three negative responses. Made me feel SO MUCH BETTER! Whew...

Do it for yourself. Do it for your country!

spent the weekend in rural VA. Obama signs everywhere. let's stay positive and try to get some sleep!
  • Patrick_Bateman · 1 year ago
I don't know whether I like this or not.

Using children to make a political or ideological point makes me uncomfortable. ala fred phelps and his poisonous seed.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I think its cute. Kids usually mimic their parents. Obviously, their parents are big Obama supporters. They make a good point, I think. I think it is far preferable to the parents who have their young kids march around with "Baby Killer" or "God Hates Fags!" signs.

I fondly remember walking to my car to go to school in 1959. I young girl of about 3 was standing on the sidewalk asking everybody who walked by, Are you voting for Nixon? Or that jerk Kennedy?

I always wondered how a 3 year old could have formed such strong political opinions. :-)
  • Fireblazes(cheetohsandcatfood) · 1 year ago
My 2 year old grandson says "Yeah Obama". It is called teaching your child what is good and right. That is what we do as adults, we lead our children to a better life.
  • Patrick_Bateman · 1 year ago
I was raised with Phylis Schlafly over for highballs.

Thank goodness those experiences didn't lead me into a "better life".
  • Fireblazes(cheetohsandcatfood) · 1 year ago
I used to mix the drinks at my Mom's parties, every kid should do that! It
led me to a pretty good life.

I'm about as liberal as you can get: gay single new yorker who works in the arts as a director and teacher. so hear this: using children to make a political point is creepy. ever. HUGE ick factor.

Thanks John. I really appreciate the video. It seems that just now all of the gloom and doom naysayers are crawling out of their holes. They seem to be trying to tell us that despite our amazing and historic efforts, the Republicans are going to steal this election. To these goblins of the negative I say, you will not "Turn me around". I have a deep and profound hope in our future. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life. I have invested more time, money and heartbreak in electing Barack Obama president than I could truly afford. But I DID IT! Saturday in my corner of the world we finished calling EVERY Democrat in our county. So we started calling people in other counties. Over a 100 volunteers showed up. We had 13 teams from all over the USA knocking on doors too. Do not come here on the eve of an historic and mind-blowing election and tell me someone is going to "steal it"! I have worked too hard and have shed tears, I am exhausted and I will not be bummed by cynics and fools. For the first time in this 51 year old man's life I have been a small part of an amazing revolution. For the first time in a long time I really do care and am consumed by this thing called HOPE! God help anyone that would try to steal my hope for the generations to come. God help anyone that tries to fix this election. Si Si Puede!

Fireblazes--Great blog. You are darn right no one is going to steal this election, not this time! Enough is enough!

I can't agree with other comments that using kids in political ads is always bad. This is a message of hope. OK, maybe some of the younger kids are a bit too young but I doubt it was done against their parents will. Many of the kids look old enough that I doubt they were coerced. I think it's a very strong message and wish it was on TV in some battle ground states.

I think it's a little weird to have a very young girl say that she needs a more stable man in the context of a Dear John letter. It's kind of creepy IMHO.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
It would be creepy if it wasn't satire. Its satire.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Here ya go. Now THIS is creepy. THIS isn't satire:

    Oh well... big deal!

    GO OBAMA GO!
  • Millineryman · 1 year ago
    That I do agree with.
  • Fireblazes(cheetohsandcatfood) · 1 year ago
So do you snot headed 20/30 somethings think we old folks are doing all this for you? No, we are doing it for the generations represented in that video. It is not about you, it is about the future!
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
using kids to sell anything is bad. selling to them is bad also. teaching your kids is something else.
  • Fireblazes(cheetohsandcatfood) · 1 year ago
Let me guess most of you have no children.

Here is an Email from the "Enemy" I just received...

    My Friend,

From the time I entered the Naval Academy at age seventeen I have been privileged and honored to serve my country.

Vote Throughout my years of service, I've been faced with challenges where I could have taken the easy way out and given up. But I'm an American and I never give up. Instead, I choose to show courage and stand up and fight for the country I love. Today, I am asking you to stand with me and to fight for our country's future.

Our country faces enormous challenges and our next president must be ready to lead on day one. My lifetime of experience has prepared me to lead our great nation. I'm prepared to bring solutions to our economic challenges, bring our troops home in victory and improve our nation's healthcare system.

Time and time again, my country has saved my life and I owe her more than she has ever owed me. I have chosen to show my gratitude through a life of service to our country and tomorrow, you will have a choice before you.

I humbly ask you to make the choice that will allow me to serve my country a little while longer by casting your vote to elect me as your next President of the United States.

Finally, I ask that you never forget that much has been sacrificed to protect our right to vote. We must never forget those Americans who, with their courage, with their sacrifice, and with their lives, have protected our freedom. It is my great hope that you will exercise your right to vote as an American tomorrow.

I thank you for your kind support, your dedication to our cause, and most importantly I thank you for your vote.

    With sincere appreciation,

    John McCain

Ya know, if McCain had have taken this tone to his campaign instead of going the full Rovian route, he would still be in this race. Humility and humbleness goes a lot farther than lies, distortions, false witness, etc.

Too late, too bad, so sad!

What crap! He didn't do anything in the Naval Academy but coast on the reputation of his father and grandfather. He wasn't serious about any of it. Fourth from the bottom of his class. And at the taxpayers' expense. Someone else from a much less privileged background could have used the space in his class and made an account of himself much better than this phony. And then what? Three military aircraft cracked up because of grandstanding carelessness. Bombing women and children. Collaborating with the enemy in captivity. And several decades in the Senate in which no one trusted him in a leadership position and his record of accomplishment is meagre. Most of the time there spent with lobbyists and showboating in public as a purported "maverick" (mavericks are people who won't lead, don't follow, and won't get out of the way). So why is he qualified to be president? What has he ever done? He's never met a payroll, never balanced books, never run anything. He's a phony and a failure. And he's trying to foist his ego on the American people with the dirtiest campaign ever: race-baiting, red-baiting, hate-mongering - all done by henchmen while he pretends to be pure. The guy's a real piece of work. He's lucky he didn't go to jail in the Keating 5 affair. That's what he ought to be grateful for.

I'm home! Spent a long day canvassing in a nearby battleground state. Well folks, I'm done. I feel like I've worked as far as I can for Obama----the only task I have left is to take my list of 11 elderly voters to the polls tomorrow. I'm packing food, drinks, and chairs in case they have to wait----to these folks even 1 hour will be an eternity. Was it enough? I don't know. I'm a nervous person not only because of Murphy's Law, but having worked all kinds of ways since Primary season, I've seen and heard things that both make my blood boil and strike fear deep in my psyche. I turn most of the day tomorrow over to G-d, and to fellow voters. Hold my hand sprirtually for the next 24 or so, and I'll see you on the other side
  • Ellie · 1 year ago
I commend you for taking people to the polls. I pray the waits won't be too long and they'll be able to make it through to make their voices heard!
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
Have you figured in big prostrates and small bladders...just saying.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Holding your hand and G-d will be with you, I'm sure of it!
