AMERICAblog: McCain seems to refuse to say that Palin is qualified as president

  • dacnova · 1 year ago
She UNITED the party??? Sarah Palin has decimated the party and made the divide between moderates and extremists worse than ever. And for that, I thank her from the bottom of my gay, gay heart.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
No sweat, she united the new face of the GOP, Aryan Nation,
  • dacnova · 1 year ago
Moments before I opened these comments again, I was thinking the GOP is becoming the party of white christians... while the Democratic party is, more than ever, the party of open minded individuals and minorities who are put down by the GOP. So the question is... if the GOP refuses to see reality and dump the Evangelicals and go back to their roots, can a viable socially forward yet otherwise conservative party evolve?
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
No. What's left right now in the party's rank and file are the hardcore fascists and their leaders. I try to believe there are people in the GOP who would reject that outright like the ones who have come out against Palin, but notice that they're just disavowing her, not the core tenets of the GOP which give rise to the expression of the hardcore fascism we're seeing. So, that in itself doesn't give me much hope.

You can only put so much lipstick on a pig...
  • dacnova · 1 year ago
Virginia is a prime example. Tom Davis would probably still have lost against Mark Warner, but it might not have been the total DRUBBING Gilmore is going to get on Tuesday.

Yet the VA GOP still clings to the evangelicals.

    Ijutz.
  • eliot99 · 1 year ago
I've considered the same thing. The party couldn't grow in size because of their rigid positions on issues. As a result, the size of the party wouldn't be big enough to compete, except in isolated pockets and districts, or select states.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
They're being held hostage by the Wingnuts now.

Mitt actually had a chance to run as an old fashioned country club repub in the mold of his father, but he decided to out Fundie the Fundies instead.

Now the moderates hate him and the fundies hate him.
  • davidinchelseama · 1 year ago
They are indeed now primarily the party of white evangelical christians. And they're going to get more and more isolated as a result of the demographic shift in this country over the next several years.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Wouldn't he have to question his own judgment? Everyone else is.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
Clearly, McCain is entirely devoid of any kind of insight or judgment known to the human race.
  • Ksue · 1 year ago
    John's an idiot.

    End of story.

i hate to argue, but i think he started an awkward sentence and didn't want to finish: "... either as vice-president or ... (as the loser)". this blogger seems to agree:
    http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/10/31/13115/214
    but what does it matter?
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
If she's the future of the Republican Party, I call on the Republican Party to disband, without delay.
  • RFKactionfront · 1 year ago
It's a funny clip. The "or" reaction in question, I believe, is that McCain realizes that if Palin is President it's because McCain himself would be dead. He was reacting to his own mortality I believe.
  • ItsAllSoSurreal · 1 year ago
Just beat me to it...that's exactly what I thought.
  • jimrittenhouse · 1 year ago
No, I don't buy that. His mugging was in reaction to the concept of "if I lose next week" which he obviously doesn't want to consider any more than you'd welcome a proctologic exam with an icicle.

I think folks here are reading too much into it.
  • DAB · 1 year ago
Naw, I watched it twice and I'm pretty sure McCain is avoiding saying "...in the event of my death." I'm sure he doesn't truly think she's qualified to be president, but his reaction here seems pretty clearly that he doesn't want to be talking about "if I die."
  • akonuche · 1 year ago
Oh nooz! There goes the poltergeist face again!
  • MnDem · 1 year ago
Nobody likes contemplating their own death, and I wonder if he truly hasn't considered it. As a senator, his death would only affect his family and his constituents in Arizona. As president, his death would affect all of us, and leave us with an incompetent Sarah Palin.

Schwarzenegger on TV now at McCain Rally........'we don't have to wonder if McCain is ready to lead...'

Is Arnie questioning his own wife's judgement....

Maybe he will take Colbert's advice and endorse Obama.

I feel like I'm watching that episode of Cheers, where Woody gets elected. Frasier/McCain, regrets his scheming to put an incompetent into a position of power. Frasier just wanted to do an experiment, to see if he could get a totally unqualified person elected. Frasier keeps day dreaming of atomic bombs exploding (The Bikini tests).

    Cheers: Woody Gets an Election

Frasier decides to conduct an experiment in voter psychology by getting Woody on the ballot for city council and is shocked by the results.

I sure would like to have a look at Palin's college transcripts. That would help settle the question of whether or not she is qualified for anything.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Me too........also she was going to release her medical records early this week....haven't seen those yet either.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
It is all written in crayon, that is the rumor anyway.

I think you could probably move several families who have lost their homes into that empty space.

The picture I use is Bill the Cat. He is a fine, upstanding, outspoken Democratic cat. On behalf of Bill the Cat I am proud to tell you, "Kiss my fuzzy orange ass!"

I know, but the eyes kinda match, but that is all. Bill the cat has honor.

I just read this over at Nat'l Review:

McCain Can Win [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

    A message from Rush's gut.

    OMG....Rush's gut !!....

If it was big and brown and swirling as it went down then It probably is a message from Rush's gut.

"she'll do a good job as VP... or... or..."

or even as a Walmart greeter.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
That is a funny clip but is a way it is more sad. It isn't so much he can't say president it is that he is denying his ability to come to terms with his possible death over the next four years. This is a total personal denial devoid of any consideration for this country. A man of 72 with his health history and his professed love of this country should have made a better running mate for the good of this country.

To me, this is pure egotism. It is "I am not going to die therefore who I pick is not relevant". No one person on this earth knows when it will be their last and most people accept this and plan accordingly for their families or in this case for their country.
  • PinkDog · 1 year ago
No, I won't razz him for this. He's being asked, in essence, whether he will be dead or critically disabled within four years. Not an easy or pleasant question to answer. Even though a politician is supposed to be able to answer tough questions, as a HUMAN it's hard to talk about your own death.
  • Btalk314 · 1 year ago
A moment of silence for Studs Turkel. He passed away today. He will be missed.
  • bish8 · 1 year ago
Last chance to see Sarah on Meet The Press or Face The Nation. Nope, we are not going to see her or her medical records.
  • davidinchelseama · 1 year ago
McCain is an extremely odd man. Just bizarre.
  • ProgressiveMom · 1 year ago
    Oh. My. God.

Even in John McCain's mind, the thought of President Palin is just too much to bear.
  • scoutradio · 1 year ago
How about "or ... as a United States Senator"? He referred to Palin earlier today as "Senator Palin". Maybe Big John knows the fix is in on his ticket's loss and the Palin self-appointment to Stevens's seat, and he's just too damned exhausted to play dumb.
  • Joe_Bourgeois · 1 year ago
Nah, I think the "Or -- or --" that he's hesitating over is "either as VP or -- or -- as the former VP candidate of the losing ticket." But he can't bring himself to say that.

Anybody noticed how both he and Plain are very similar to Bush in their continuing ability/willingness to mug for the camera?
  • lost_nacf_gop · 1 year ago
Aw, c'mon, y'all are sooo cruel. Just as he was about to finish the sentence his mind screamed "GEORGE SHULTZ" right into his good ear, and he froze.
