I'm with you. THANK GOD this is happening now instead of when Republicans PLANNED for it to happen. They wanted this to happen AFTER the election.

In other words if McCain is an honorable man, he will lose because he won't try to change the subject by lying, or smearing the Obama campaign.

Everybody should just quit worrying about the economy. The Pelosi/Bush rescue bill will see us through.

that is sarcasm I sure hope! Obviously, the additional redistribution of wealth from the poor to the wealthy represented by the 'bailout" *cough cough* will have ZERO impact in changing the course of the house of cards collapse. It merely helped make sure the deepest investors can get out while they can before complete implosion.

CNN's newsreaders are talking about congress not acting fast enough to make a different. That Susan chick on the stock floor said she overheard a trader say, "It was like Paulson saying, 'ICEBERG AHEAD!' two weeks ago and congress took forever to act."
No, WHAT IT IS, dear, is the Bu$h administration being afraid to tell the truth about the economy and WAITING until we hit the iceberg before telling congress to act.

yeah, how is 2 weeks considered 'forever'? the icebergs have been floating around for decades. what's sudden in all of this is how laissez faire has come to mean give me a bigger teat to suck on.

As posted late on the threat below we can all thank God Pelosi, Reid, and Bush (with the yes votes of McCain and Obama) led us away from sure disaster with the bailout/pork package. Hell, without this bailout/pork package and this true Stateswoman's fine leadership I am sure the Dow would be down 1,000 instead of just 550.
All those whining drenched in fear bailout cheerleaders now is the time to watch, wait and learn how much of a fraud this robbery of your taxpayer dollars was. Simply put, the bailout package will not work, except for a select few like Goldman Sachs.
By the way, if you get angry, get over and get back to work knowing full well who delivers the pork and who receives the pork!
cowboyneok
The biggest reason I was against the bailout is I thought it wouldn't work and its simply redistribution of wealth to those whose policies caused it in the first place. Of course, they are deeply connected to congress and propping them up financially so it was decided BEFORE it was actually voted on that congress would vote on it. Republicans were just playing politics to try to ACT like they were going to protect the taxpayer. If that were the case, they wouldn't have voted "Yea" when the BILL got even more expensive.
tbhull
The repubs are as much a shameless gaggle of corrupt whores void of leadership and ideas as are the dems.
The repubs were supposedly standing on principle when they voted against the bill toting their small limited government free market bullshit diatribe. However, principle easily gave way to principal. In other words, all it took was a little pork to sway these pigs. Now that is leaddership and a party every registered republican should be proud to be a member of!
But enough of the partisan crap. This whole fiasco simply goes to clearly demonstrate (in the face of all the the partisan rah-rahs screeaming otherwise hoping to justify their spirit/rage and to give their actions some meaning) that no real difference exists between the repubs and dems. We have one party with two faces, both of which need to change.

I would agree. I hate being so cynical, but this charade has left me with no options.
In your view, what is the solution to ending this charade other than the obvious permanent elimination of the current Congress?
In a real sense, our power, wealth, financial and representative structures need to meet their absolute and painful demise one way or another so that the foundation can be rebuilt. Our system is almost hopelessly corrupt.

Point out that it was DEMOCRATS that wanted to limit executive pay as part of the bailout:
"One of the least attractive elements is a section designed to curb executive pay at banks that participate in the bail-out package. These include limiting stock-related pay and banning 'golden parachutes' for executives."
Republicans wouldn't vote for it until $150 BILLION more dollars was tacked on as "sweeteners." The name "sweeteners" alone just makes me want to puke. Our financial system is collapsing and Republicans play politics and have to have more taxpayer money for them to hand over $750 billion to supposedly "save" the economy.

I am 66 and planned on going out next year! NOT NOW I'm losing big time. My pension at work..well I don't know how much I will even be getting with this economy...THANK YOU REPUBLICANS....ANYONE THAT VOTES FOR THIS PARTY IS CRAZY.

Americabloggers, you may have seen this already but just in case:
You know how the Obama campaign and its surrogates have been warning McCain "not to go there" on Ayers? Well McSame did, and he's going to regret it. It seems the Dems were well prepared ahead of time to pull out the big guns, with this detailed documentary on the Keating 5 scandal. The Obama Campaign's new video (and associated ads???) about The Keating Five and the Dow being below 10,000 should put another nail the McCain/Palin coffin. The 10 K mark was supposedly such a psychological barrier going up - I wonder how much pain it will bring going down?
Good luck changing the subject now.

Joe: most people, depending on their investments lost 10% to 24% since this started a week or so ago. If people have half a brain (that is questionable) they will recognize that the Republicans who ran the country in Congress for the past 12 years along with an ineffective Democrat run congress for the past two have allowed this to happen. They have been bribed and bought off by the lobbyists and K-Streeters. We as a nation continue to elect people who have no interest in helping the average American, they put themselves and the interests of Corporations first and now America is on the brink of going down the tube because the very same people who we elected to watch our back have been only watching their bank accounts. This election is well beyond name calling. This election is about who do you trust to take the issues seriously, who has the intestinal fortitude to make hard decisions-end the bullshit war and cut our costs in Iraq, cut lobbyist access to our politicians, put corrupt and dirty administration officials in jail, go after the people who caused this collapse. McCain has nothing to run on, he never did and never will. He has nothing, has done nothing, stands for nothing and can only hope that personal attacks and fear will win the day. I believe Americans are smarter, but have been proven wrong. If this country elects John and "Miss South Carolina" we can turn out the lights because it will be over. The great Neocon dream of an American Empire has proven to be the biggest disaster in the history of the country and the people who put us here: Bush, Cheney, Rove, Gonzalez, Ashcroft, Powell, Hastert, Delay, Boehner, Rice, Meirs, et al are still not in jail. If there is no punishment for crime then we have anarchy.

Typical of right wingers. Make a mess of the financial system or start a war somewhere, create an absolute disaster then stick your head up your ass and hope it either goes away or let others clean up after you. If the American people don't see this continuing ideology as perverted at best, they deserve the government they vote into office.

I also must add a laugh that this site and many others I post to mocked people like myself that were against the "bailout" . when last mondays crash, etc, we were being told we were being "vengeful", seeking pain, retribution etc for this position. what a joke. So, now we have their"bailout' and see..nothing changes.
its plain bad business to throw good money after bad.
re distributing more wealth from the working poor to the wealthy elite does NOT solve this problem. its didnt a month ago, 1 year ago, or today. more cash welfare for the rich wont stop this. our entire global economy is built on a house of cards: central Banks and their fiat currency. Every civilization that has tried this system, eventually fails. This is failing too, and no amount of borrowed, printed, worthless paper can substitute for a currency backed by tangible value.
the sooner more people start to understand the CRIME of the federal reserve System, the sooner we can shrug it off. Until then, endless bust and booms will be managed all designed to pipeline wealth from the people to the elite 1% of the top 1%. this is yet just another in a long line of these managed bust and booms designed to force "borrowing" even more money from the fed and its sister systems globablly. Money that the systems do not even have; it gets created when its borrowed. then we, as a nation, pay interest on money the bank didnt even posses! In these scandalous process, we pay with tangibles ( property, business, etc ) for the fake money we borrowed. Its a system designed to enslave us all, and we are seeing how successful it is. Soon, the Fed and other central banks, will own ALL the real property globally, as collateral for the worthless fake money they loaned.
this isnt conspiracy theory, this is fucking fact. do a little research and educate yourselves.
whether its Marxism, or capitalism , the system all is designed to do one thing; MONOPOLIZE ALL Business. Work for the company store. The ULTIMATE Feudalism. We toil for the top 1% of the 1% to have everything, while we are left with nothing.
Andrew

Couldn't agree more. Been saying it here for over a year. dump the Federal Reserve and many of these problems will disappear. Return to a sound money system back by real assets as Kennedy tried to do. Back the dollar with gold and silver.
tbhull
OK then, accepting this argument as true for argument's sake, what is the solution and what does the world look like once the solution is implemented?
Reason0Politics1
well, as Andrew below states, we need to repeal the Federal Reserve Act first, return to a Constitutional Money System. We need to STOP banks using fractional reserves. They cant loan the same dollar we deposit 20x's over and make interest on all 20 loans. thats criminal. We need to go back to actually having a Fort Knox with real Gold / Silver, and keep it transparent and accountable. we need to make it impossible for governments to borrow money. no deficits. Period.

How does this change the economy? What will be the impact on Joe six-pack?
The entire purpose of this book is to warn and help prepare the average person, family, business and institution for the greatest economic event of our lives that is now steadily closing in on us. It is a once in a lifetime event, so there is little national memory that such an event is possible. It is the economic one hundred year flood. We are now just several years away from the greatest depression in American history. It will be several times greater than the 1930s. No maybe or perhaps. It is as unavoidable as it is certain...."

The Repubs are in the hearing today to ensure that Obama gets smeared. It seems to be that when a hearing is being held with witnesses, that it's disrespectful to be getting partisan while the witnesses sit there twiddling their thumbs and getting uncomfortable. Davis and Mica, in particular, act like junior high school boys misbehaving at the back of the classroom. The hearing is on Lehman Brothers bankruptcy and the Repubs are reading and droning on and on about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They all need to be gone.
