I thought he voted against that!!!!

Couldn't find anyone from The United States, John?

I still think it is going to be Portman. Pallin would get slaughtered on the campaign trial

will he enter her in next year's stripper contest?

They are saying Palin. On the one hand Biden will clean her clock in a debate but he has to be very careful Not to look like a bully.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Palin is damned close to being impeached as Governor of Alaska!!!!!!!!

    Good job McCain!!!
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
It's official, McCain announces that Sarah Palin is his veep!
  • ClintonHater · 1 year ago
I was actually kind of worried it would be Pawlenty (Minnesota). I don't think women are going to vote for a pro-lifer, even if there is a woman on the ticket. Biden should tear her a new one that is for sure.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
Palin's husband works in Big Oil. What a Lady Maverick!

  • JustAnOldLady · 1 year ago
She's a gun-toting beauty queen.............obviously the perfect pick for VP........
Can't wait to hear how the Repubs 'splain this one..........
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
McCain has to push to make sure she isn't paid like a man....wouldn't want that kind of flip-flop.
  • Rab · 1 year ago
So the repugs have given up if this is his running mate.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Strange isn't it? Democrats pay lip service to women. Repubs treat them as equals.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
you mean they have guy strippers in Sturgis. cool.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Oh sure. Democrats pay lip service and 'Pukes treat them as equals. Here goes: a woman's right to chose, insurance for Viagra but not for contraception, equal pay for equal work, Violence Against Women Act, ERA for women defeated by Republicans. Which side are you on, boy? We know.

How'd they break the news to Cindy? Better get the blue dolls ready.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
Rove wanted Mittens. Bet he's pissed!
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Geeeez, I think that for McCain to pick a woman (in lieu of Clinton), is insulting. Does he really think that women are that dumb? Heck yeah!

Let us get our ammo ready, you know all of the stuff he has said about women: they shouldn't make as much money as men, they should go back to school instead. Women shouldn't have a say in their own bodies, he calls his wife a (rhymes with) Runt and then tells a roomful of rednecks that his wife should participate in a topless beauty contest.

He really must be frightened of Biden, his pick is sure to show that he thinks he can hide behind a woman's skirts!

Heck, can you imagine Joe Biden debating this woman? She was a mayor of a small town before she was governor (only 1 1/2 years now) Talk about LACK of experience...
  • ClintonHater · 1 year ago
Doesn't this also ruin his experience argument also against Obama? What is he going to say now?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    This should be really interesting....
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Wow, that one came out of knowwhere. It's being confirmed as breaking news pretty much everywhere now. Hmmm...curious how this will play out...
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
They have had that rumor around for the past 24 hours now...plus she was being discussed a few weeks ago as well.

As a matter of fact, there was a group lobbying for her to the veep:

I guess I remember hearing her name once or twice, but I'm still surprised.

OH, and I meant to spell 'nowhere' correctly. I was thinking of typing I didn't know where she came from and typed something else. Hooked on phonics worked for me. LOL!!!

  • anotherdumguy · 1 year ago
I don't like McCain and would never vote for him, but I think this is both a good pick on his part and demonstrates the difference between Obama and McCain.
McCain chose a pick that theoretically gives him the best chance to win the election. His long range planning goes only to November 4. Being president is an end in itself. If he wins, what does Palin add to his administration? Nothing.
Obama best pick if all he cared about was winning the election would obviously have been Clinton. It would have been horrible for his administration if he were successful, but would have given him the best chance of winning.
I like Obama's approach better. I just hope he wins.
  • shell · 1 year ago
I simply cannot figure out why so many say Clinton would be a winning running-mate for Obama.

Yes, lots of racists voted for her in the primaries. I know, I know -- not all her supporters were racist. But you can't deny this: 99% of racists voted for her. (Yes, I know that there are black racists, but a miniscule number.)

Besides, Republicans HATE her. There would be nothing like Hillary on the ticket to bring them to the polls. Even if they don't like McCain, it pales, compared to their feelings about Hillary.

Obama was very wise not to pick Hillary.
  • okojo · 1 year ago
oh well, I was wrong, what's new. I don't think Pallin is the best choice. It may pull strings for independent women and some of the Hillary supporters on a superficial level, but she is a governor of a small isolated state. I wonder if she can handle it.

It reminds me of more Quayle. Pallin has been a governor for two years. This could backfire in the long run. However, it could help McCain if she comes across as semi competent.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    independent women are pro-choice.
  • okojo · 1 year ago
Independent voters aren't dogmatic, they will parse or rationalized their support to a candidate. The Republicans know most voters are pro-choice, they just keep the anti-abortion rhetoric down during the election, and the taliban right to lifers in the closet as much as possible, while feeding them a few bread crumbs.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Well maybe the Repub's will TRY to keep the pro life stuff quiet, but the rest of us won't!

This just might be really fun.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
if independent voters aren't dogmatic, why would Palin pull strings for independent women and some Hillary supporters?
  • okojo · 1 year ago
The election isn't tomorrow. We will see if independent voters will like her. I think I am concern that she will come off like Dan Quayle
I don't see this as a good pick. Mainly that Palin hasn't been on the National stage, and it could come as a shock to her.

This is also a statement by McCain who is going to be running his hypothetical White House, and it isn't going to be Palin in the Dick Cheney mode.
  • DastiusKrazitauc · 1 year ago
Wow. Who would have ever expected John McCain to pick a much younger, former beauty queen as a running mate? Oh, I know who, Carol McCain.

    Sarah Palin:
So we get Sarah Palin, who has a fairly compelling personal story and is an attractive woman, but has scant political experience, zero name recognition outside of political junky circles, faces an ethical investigation by her own legislature, and will now be forced to run a grueling national campaign despite having an infant child at home.

Those are the marks of desperation, and really, given his precarious electoral position, John McCain had no choice.

I don't think a pretty face is going to quite cut it. How old is she? Good choice to succeed 72 year-old-old McThuselah as commander-in-chief?

Cause her bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Idaho makes her ready to be second in command. We're gonna have a field day with this one.

She's too young to remember the sixties where McSame still resides.
  • ClintonHater · 1 year ago
Something interesting to note, is that whoever McCain picked will be the Republican nominee in '12, because McCain wouldn't run for a second term. So that means Palin will be the nominee in '12. Do women want a pro-choice supreme court or a woman veep and possible president, that is something they are going to have to decide.

It will be an interesting to see the polls in the next few days.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
WHY are you even THINKING about McCain winning???

You know, I said the other day that you were using all of the GOP talking points and it seems you are doing the same right now. A troll in Clinton clothing, who knew?
  • ClintonHater · 1 year ago
Shut up I am just making an obvious observation. Something that people will be thinking about.

Sorry I'm not super biased, I can make unbiased observations unlike you.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Shut up?
  • okojo · 1 year ago
McCain will run again as long as he is healthy. However, Palin has to go through couple big hurdles to build a coalition for the nomination.

I can see why McCain did this, but I don't think this is the best choice, Mainly Palin is from Alaska, which doesn't have the schizophrenic scrutiny of the National Media. She beat Frank Murkowski, which wasn't difficult given his approval ratings at the time.

I'm curious if Palin can handle the national media.
  • ClintonHater · 1 year ago
Palin will certainly make a lot of gaffes in the months to come.

  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Kay Bailey Hutchinson said that Palin has the same experience as Obama so now the ticket is even...

    Yeah, sure, whatever...
  • okojo · 1 year ago
Obama has been in the public spotlight ever since he was head of the Harvard Law Review. He was a State Senator, Law Prof, before he was a Senator of a fairly large and diverse state. Pallin has been governor since 2006, from an isolated, small population wise state. She grew up in Idaho and Alaska. There isn't much of a comparison. Obama has proven he is intelligent and eloquent, given his speech last night. I have seen one or two video of Sarah Palin, she seems competent but not compelling.

Right now, it isn't about experience or lack of experience, but competency and talent to handle problems. Palin is far, far from showing she can handle the pressure on the national stage. I just see this more as Quayle.

Anyway, the Republican spinners are just saying anything to justify this pick, it will take some days to get a judgement if this is a good pick or not, I don't think it is, because she comes from an isolated small population state.
  • Aanya · 1 year ago
The only comparison with Pelin and Hillary is that they both have vaginas! It ends there! McCain has one foot in senility and the other foot in dementia!

  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Oh yeah! You can tell exactly where Mrs Greenspan's reporting is going to be. As much as she tries to cover her words, she definitely is NOT a supporter of Obama.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
You should have seen Andrea yesterday before/during/after the Obama speech. She absolutely hated having to say his speech was as good as it was.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
It was a smart SHORT term move on McCain's part. Any ongoing news bounce from Obama's terrific speech has been derailed this morning by this announcement. It also takes advantage of those Clinton supporters that wanted a woman.

Will it payoff in the long term?? Will voters even take the time to think about the fact that this 72 year old man has picked a young woman with virtually no experience to possibly succeed him in case of illness or death?? Will they, the voters, realize this woman has NO experience in national and world security issues, will they realize (especially women supporters) this woman will work with McCain to overturn Roe vs Wade.

I think this is a very risky choice for McCain. Will the short term bounce payoff in the long term?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Hi there my dear!

I think Obama was glorious last night and I envied your being there. As far as McCain/Palin goes, I think it's a horrid choice. Many of the women who were supporting Clinton and were not sure what to do now have already decided to vote Obama. One of Hillary's biggest supporters (and fund raisers) who just started a big women's group wrote an article about how she is now supporting Obama. With her support, it will also bring tons of others over to him.

    So, McCain picked a wet-nurse?
  • Happy_Housewife · 1 year ago
This is just such a textbook example of what Republicans don't get about anyone who is not a white male. They think they can throw a pro-life woman in the VP slot, and instantly get the woman vote.

The women who were going to vote for McCain will like this choice, which means a net gain of zero. Or maybe even a loss. After all, there's a lot of women who can't stand other women, and they may just vote against McCain because of this.

As my son would say (in front of me, at least) WTF?
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
    Here it is...wait for it.....

She had her sister's ex-husband fired because he was reportedly a wife beater. This one fact shoud be used as an example of what could happen with her in control---abuse of government power. Sure the guy probably deserved it BUT is it a sign of how we want our government to work? Haven't we had that with Dick Cheney for 8 years.

This is a delicate issue BUT it needs defining as to how this woman would work in her personal peeves in a position of power.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Frankly, I think it is downright condescending to think that just because McCain puts a woman on his ticket, that he figures that will be good enough for other women to make them vote for her.

    Way to go, McCain.

Well, she has a hell of a lot more experience than Obama.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Um let's see. Governor for 18 months, mayor of a town of 8,500. Yep I guess that beats US Senator for four years and before that a state Senator.

Hummm...tying up loose nukes. Did anyone, R or D disagree with that one?
  • ClintonHater · 1 year ago
Are you retarded whats your point? Obama took the initiative to do something about it. Its not just enough to agree with the legislation.
  • Lolis · 1 year ago
Troll. We just listed things Obama has done. There are many more, but it's a waste to list them because some people can't admit when they are wrong. It'll be hilarious to see the 10 PUMAs left who say they simply cannot vote for Obama who holds 12 yrs in elected office praise the Palin pick. Spin, spin, spin.

If McCain were younger and healthier this affirmative action, pandering might be more effective. But he is old and has had serious health problems. This short term strategy that'll really hurt McCain next month.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Why should we waste our time answering goofy questions? Do your own homework? Know how to use "The Google".
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
To turn that question around, tell us what Palin has done to make her the potential leader of the USA? Let's face it, McCain is 72 and has battled cancer therefore it is a possiblity that Palin could be president. What has she done that makes anyone think she is ready to lead this country?
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago

May I remind you that Obama is running for PRESIDENT. She's running for VICE PRESIDENT. What Foreign relations does Obama have, the committee has never met under his leadership. He was a Senator for 143 days before he started concentrating his effort to become POTUS. 143 days !
  • ClintonHater · 1 year ago
Actually Mr. Cancer Face could drop dead at any moment considering he has been around since the Great Flood. So it is entirely relevant.

In terms of his great experience advantage over Palin:
He has sponsored legislation tying up loose nuclear weapons, Sponsored legislation on Veterans benefits; and has been on the foreign relations committee for four years and as a result been on in discussions over foreign policy legislation, interrogated foreign policy officials, and met with foreign leaders

Hilary's women supporters are NOT going to like the fact Palin is staunchly pro-life. And how is the GOP base going to react to the fact Palin VETOED a bill to ban the Alaska state government from giving domestic partner benefits to same sex partners of state employees? She is anti-gay marriage, but if her Wiki entry is accurate she claims to have gay friends and support some rights. I hope John can find out more about that.

Not only is she under investigation for the firing of the Public Safety Director, she said in an interview she doesn't even know what the Vice President does!!

    I see an advertisement.

"John McCain says he wants to bring change to Washington. But he's voted
with George Bush 95% of the time. Now his vice-presidential candidate says
she doesn't even know what the Vice President does. Is this the change we
    really need?"

I have to agree with the others and concern troll for McCain, this is a big slap in the face to Condi what other woman in the GOP has that much foreign policy experience.

This just shows how out of touch McCain really is, he thinks that just any white woman can replace Hillary and he automatically gets the Hillary voters.

And now he can't use the inexperience argument,
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Good, that Wasserman gal is really stating the terms of the battle. No resposible judgement on McCain's part, another Republican under investigation and biggest of all the inexperience of this woman to run the country in the event of McCains death or illness
  • TampaZeke · 1 year ago
    This pick is absolutely astonishing!

McCain, in one move will be throwing EVERY SINGLE ONE of his attacks on Obama under the bus.

Experience? One and a half years as governor of the least populous state in America,

Celebrity? The woman was a pagent queen!

Foreign policy exprerience? Has she ever been out of the state other than when she cut across Canada to get to the lower 48?

Can you imagine this bimbo in a debate with Biden on foreign policy (Russia, Georgia, Shia, Sunni)?

Even the conservative commentators are freaking out and going "WHAT THE F**k?"

It looks like EVERYTHING is going Obama's way right now.

Each and every one of us should go to conservative websites and pose as Republicans (just like they do here) and freak out over this selection. Go on and on about how McCain has just screwed himself. Rant that you'll NEVER vote for him now that he put Miss Alaska on the ballot with him. Complain that he didn't pick Romney; Hutchinson; Guilliani; Pawlenty; Lieberman or any of the other choices he could have made.

IT'S TIME FOR A LITTLE "OPERATION CHAOS" OF OUR OWN!!!
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I think this is a great opportunity for the Dems to jump on McCain's ability to make decisions that affect this country.
  • EmGD · 1 year ago
With his voting against the equal pay for women bill, John has already pledged to save thousands in government spending by only paying Palin 80% of the VP salary a man would get. Fiscal conservatism is back!

Boy is her resume thin! But she's a hottie, and that's usually what gets McCain.

That and money. He sure likes his sugar mamas.

McCain's pick of Palin, a woman with very little executive experience, a woman who has approved a 26 billion dollar oil pipeline to Canada instead of the United States shows that McCain's decision was made from an adlolescent place of "I'll show you mentallity" instead of one of wisdom and judgment and will be a disaster! Maybe McCain really is senile and confused and incapable of making sound judgments in light of the fact that he is 72 years old and has health issues and if something was to happen to him, this 44 year old woman would be in charge of the highest office in the land with the many huge problems facing us today, because when it comes to doing the people's business, it is not a game but serious, deadly business. If she was Qualified, that would be different but she is not and that is the bottom line. Not to mention that his argument that Barack has no experience And Is not Ready is out the door, his strongest argument against Barack.

And is this decision, Historic or Hysterical? And it is sort of sad to me personally, that McCain with all the problems we face here, did not have the People's interest at heart but rather a desire to win for winning's sake and did not think of the consequences of his actions and what it would mean for this country if she had to be sworn in as President of the United States!

However, in this evil ploy to pull Hillary women from Barack with no consideration as to whether or not this woman has the ability and experience to lead the United States here and on a world scale shows a very adolescent way of thinking and as McCain's first executive decision, a disaster!
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
It is horribly condescending to think that just because she's a woman that will be enough to vote for her. I do not see how this one will fly.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
The GOP dolts are now saying that Palin is "a reformer" and will be loved by Independents.

This will be a very interesting campaign...
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Well, McCain has made sure that the speech of the century is ignored.

Sad but true...maybe Obama can have some sort of major announcement on Friday, haha.
  • Happy_Housewife · 1 year ago
By the way, I thought of something in the shower this morning. I think we can get it to stick, if worded and marketed correctly.

"John McCain claims he's a maverick. But he's voted with George W. Bush 95% of the time. That's no maverick. That's a gelding."

    what do you think?

Drats!!! Andrea Mitchell is driving me crazy with her pro Palin rant

    My question should be

Is this Obama vs McCain OR is it going to be Obama vs Palin???

So far the press makes is making it Obama vs Palin
  • pcvirginiabeach · 1 year ago
Good god- Trooper gate Palin? The bat nuts crazy corrupt drooler who used her position of power to go after her sisters X? How is that going to play with the Republicans?

What about the Hillary supporters? They going to support a woman who is wrong on every issue? If this is true, it has been polled, and I bet the polls came back that some of the angry Hillary women like the fact that Palin used her power to destroy a man. That may play for him.... it has never been about the issues for that part of Hillarys base, it is all about anger. Still... you have to wonder how corruption and a current investigation will play out right now? That cop has to be absolutely bummed out, because you can bet the right will do everything to demonize him, regardless of the facts, in order to serve up red meat for the Hillocrats. Man.
  • TampaZeke · 1 year ago
Another thing. The senior Senator from Delaware has pull with states that surround Delaware like New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and his birthstate of Pennsylvania.

Howere, Palin from Alaska pulls in MUCH larger areas like, um, well, Ok, like, Siberia, the Yukon Territory, the Northwest Territory, British Columbia and that ever important (yet shrinking) region the North Pole (though she'll have a problem delivering the elf vote for the Republicans since they're at 90% unemployment after watching their jobs and equipment get shipped off to China).

Good luck with that one McSame.

She is a hottie, but WTF was he thinking.... VP's are normally a pit bull, this is a tea cup poodle.
  • chandler_in_lasvegas · 1 year ago

Short. That is the reason he picked her. He is a whopping 5'6" tall and he needed somebody that wouldn't make him look like he was a member of The Lolly Pop Guild.

    Short.

That is the only reason he picked her.

Next to 6'2" Obama and Biden they look like little people.

Give McSame a break, guys. It's not like there's an unlimited supply of out of work Arabian Horse Show judges out there. He had to work with what he HAS, not with what he WISHED he had.
