AMERICAblog: McCain wants to talk about candidate's "associations." Let's start with Charles Keating.

Let's put it all on the table. Obama starts running ads telling the truth about McCain's connections. This is not time to get weak. McCain is on his deathbed now, and will say or do anything to stay in the race.

I think a better route for Obama would be a really smart ad from a 527.

And don't forget all those photos with McCain kissing and hugging Bush like some long lost lover.

Let's also not forget his association with his first wife. Family values, Republican style.

And how about his association with 890 other students at the Naval Academy who finished ahead of him (or maybe we should focus on the 4 or 5 who finished below him).
And how about his association with the 4 or 5 Navy planes he crashed.

I would gladly donate money a 527 that could place a compelling national ad describing McCain's association to the Keating 5 scandal. It infuriates me that McCain stands up there and blames Obama for this mess WHEN in fact McCain could be called the founding father of mortgage fiascoes that have cost the taxpayers billions.
McCain has been trying to cast himself as "outside" of Washington for 26 years. Well, the Keating 5 scandal proves that he is not and has not ever been "outside of Washington". How can he continue this farce of pretending the Fannie/Freddie issues and now the bailout were the result of other people? The Keating scandal proves McCain has had first hand knowledge of how banks can scam the public YET McCain acts like a virgin in discussing the recent banking problems. I believe he was censured for his part in Keating, you would think that would have made him more alert to what has been going on, but no, there he stands pointing fingers at everyone but himself.

And let's not forget Sarah Palin's association with her witch hunting Pastor and Todd Palin's involvement in the Alaskan Independence Party...

If Sarah Palin would come over and lay hands on me, I might feel better.
I mean that in the most religious sense.

And how about Phil Gramm, who insulted Americans by calling them "whiners," then at the Republican convention told some assembled group that, in effect, everyone not there was "illiterate." That's what John McCain and his buddy Gramm think of Americans: a bunch of illiterate whiners! Tie McCain to Enron/UBS Phil Gramm.
Keating (I certainly hope so) and Gramm (illiterate whiners): crony capitalists and the revolving-door de-regulators who enable them.

Without McCain it would be the Keating Four Scandal -- it's not guilt-by-association. McCain IS the scandal and the scandal IS McCain.

Right and there are millions of American voters who know nothing of McCain's association and involvement in this scandal. They need to be educated.

Let us not overlook McCain's failure to provide his current medical condition. This is serious and if he is unable to complete his term the very last thing this country needs is to have a runner up beauty queen in charge. It would be the beginning of the end for America,

One reason his poll numbers may be going down is that he is just getting plain creepier and creepier. JM and SP standing together on stage are reminding people of Riff-Raff and Elvira.

don't you mean, "Riff-Raff and Magenta" ???

I was mixing characters because at least Magenta is a little talented, funny and therefore cute. I don't think Elivira and SP are either.
How much fun was that to have played Magenta????? How cool!

yeah, and after Keating and Iseman, let's talk about Abramoff and Ralphie Reed

And don't forget Cindy's father, Jim Hensley. He was a convicted felon (falsifying liquor records). His brother went to prison but he got off with probation and a fine, and he never should've been granted a license to distribute alcoholic beverages after that conviction. There was also speculation that he had ties to organized crime through his partial ownership of Ruidoso Downs racetrack. His influence and money helped start McCain's political career. And didn't McCain call him his mentor in the Saddleback "debate"?

Obama has been running a high-brow campain, and, so far, it's worked for him. He needs to respond quickly to misleading ads from the McCain camp, but I don't think he should start going negative on McCain until he finds McCain's are gaining traction.

If McCain's POW experience 40 years ago counts in his favor, his Keating 5 involvement 20 years ago counts against him.

McCain continues his association with the Keatings. William J. Keating, Charles Keating's brother, donated $1,000 to his campaign in July. Here's a link to the record at the Federal Election Commission. http://images.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/fecimg/?28991...
William J. Keating is a retired attorney, one of the founding partners with his brother Charles of the law firm Keating, Muething and Klekamp, which represents Carl Lindner and American Financial Corporation. In fact, Charles Keating was once one of the principles in American Financial until a securities scandal involving a default on several hundred million dollars in debentures earned him banishment by the SEC from AFC. In exchange for his shares of stock in AFC he received ownership of the company's American Continental Corp. subsidiary and he moved from Cincinnati to Phoenix to take the reins of the company.
William J. Keating served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1971 to 1974. He vacated the U.S. House seat to take over as publisher of the Cincinnati Enquirer which he and Lindner purchased and later sold to Combined Communications, which was subsequently acquired by Gannett. Their control of the newspaper helped them to minimize coverage of the financial scandals in which AFC became embroiled. In the 1980s they launched a hostile takeover of Taft Broadcasting Corp., the giant publishing and broadcasting empire long controlled by the Taft family, which gave them control of one of Cincinnati's three network affiliate stations.
You will note when perusing the FEC contribution files that Lindner and his family members have all donated the maximum amount allowable to McCain.
Thanks for the comic relief, I certainly had forgotten about McCrazyCain's love interest.

It is predictable, that McCain, now that he is tanking in the polls, will resort to vile Rovian tactics. There is nothing else this man can do, to bolster his standing in the polls. Even Shrill Sarah is beginning to lose her popularity. Thankfully, people were able to see during the VP debates, that Biden was qualified to be President if necessary, and clueless Sarah, had low numbers. I hope Obama is ready for the nasty ads, which according to many reports is ALL Old Mac is now, and that Obama will fight fire with fire, and bring out the Keating Five ads, and anything else Old Mac will be embarrassed about. Brace yourselves folks, we are going to get pummeled with Wright/Ayers/Rezo/muslim/ and other BS.
Obama was 8 years old when Ayers was a member of Weatherman. How and when did an eight years old Obama "pall" with Ayers? This is McCain-Palin's self-induced hallucination at the command of radical Right Wing of the RNC, rather a sign of mental defect due to consistently falling behind in recent polls and due to economy not being their turf as well as an expression of racism and intolerance under the guise of character assassination.
Sarah Palin's attack on Obama's patriotism over baseless "association" with Bill Ayers legitimates us to raise questions about the Palins' associations with a group founded by an Alaska secessionist who once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed our "damn flag."She participated in a conference organized by this secessionist group, of which her husband is a life-time member.
And it legitimizes to question Cindy McCain's association with terrorism. Cindy held $2 million in investment funds owning shares of Sudan-linked companies, thus she supported terrorism in Darfur. His wife's "funds had ties to the Sudanese regime, which has armed and supported militias considered responsible for killing, raping and torturing hundreds of thousands of civilians in the country's Darfur region" (quoted from ABC). In an effort to quickly suppress her association with terrorist genocide, she sold those holdings only after a reporter's inquiries.
It also legitimizes to question Palin's another act of terrorism that her son is involved in ethnic cleansing of Sunnis in Iraq, thus helping to embolden Shia Iraq and, by default, Ahmadinejad's regime in Shia Iran.
It also legitimizes to question Republican party's political platform of state's sponsorship of social, religious, and unilateral military terrorism in the entire world, against whoever does not agree with the Empire's idea of democracy.

Yeah. That "other association" really gets to Cindy, I hear. TOO BAD CINDY WAS WRONG TO BE PROUD OF HER HUSBAND for his "gentlemanly" campaign. I want to know what she feels now, after this October 2008 interview: http://www.rd.com/your-america-inspiring-people... Please read closing paragraph, page 3. GOOD GOD, what a bunch of drain plugging crap!!
