McSellOut wants it both ways, but the fundies call the shots. That is pathetic and dangerous and worse than bushco...at least bushco ignored them, for the most part.

Sarah Palin Scandal Scorecard:
* This so-called reformer directed Ted Stevens' 527.
* This so-called reformer hired a Ted Stevens-connected, Washington lobbyist to secure millions of dollars in earmarks while mayor of a small town of 7,000 or so, and made requests for hundreds of millions of dollars in earmarks during her short tenure as governor.
* She's under investigation for Trooper Gate, has made contradictory statements and is now lawyered up and will have to testify.
* She was involved in another firing scandal when she was mayor, for which she was almost recalled.
* She bankrupted that little town she was mayor of.
* She and her husband in the 1990s belonged to a fringe political party whose goal is to make Alaska secede from the union.
* She claimed to be against the Bridge to Nowhere, when reports of her speaking to the people of that island while campaigning for governor record her supporting the bridge and, in fact, she kept the money for the project when it fell through.
* And a multitude of personal and family issues.

It's great to see the Repub-fascists scrambling to repair the damage while treading water for a change. It would be nice to think that some Democratic strategist did something clever to put the other side on the defensive but we know that's not possible. The GOP did it to themselves.

We have deteriorated into a Third World country where our religious tribal leaders, Robertson, Falwell, Dobson, Osteen, et al control their little Taliban group and extract the wealth for themselves with out being taxed and dictate to the rest of us what we are allowed to think, what we are allowed to do. They have control of the right wing of the party and perhaps they always did but now they have ramped it up to being able to choose who gets elected. I have watched for the past year or so through the Primaries and through the past few months and must say the number of references made by our candidates to their fealty to God and invoking religion, how religion marks their lives strikes me as very disturbing. The number of comments God Help Us, Thank God, etc. by newscasters and especially our politicians in the past few months is also disturbing. If God gave a shit he wouldn't allow wars, natural disasters, hunger, poverty and the like, so same me from attacks on that front. If you think you need a big head in the sky to talk to great keep it to yourself but for the Taliban to now pick and choose our elected representatives I have to say enough.

Isn't it amazing that the people who wrap themselves in a cloak of piety and morality and assure us that Jesus loves them above all others are the same ones whose teenage daughters get knocked up.

Still. the fact that he's not calling the shots makes this all the more fun. And, who knows, maybe Holy Joe will end up on the ticket after all...

"Just because she sold a plane does not mean she can be VP"
Must watch video. James Carville vs. Ignorant woman. Great job James.
As the GOP deals with Hurrican Gustav and Hurricane Palin, the Right says we on the left are afraid of Palin or Jealous of her because we are dong what he should have done Vetted Her! What we are upset about is the hypocrisy of McCain to (for months) label Barack as an empty suit, has no experience, etc., etc. and then to pick a VP "beauty queen" who is up for ethics investigation, who is completely unqualified, and shows very little intellectual capacity, just because she is a Woman, in a dishonest attempt to Steal Hillary women, is prepostorous and foolhardy (fools rush in where Angels fear to tread). And we are terrified because John McCain is old and not in the best of health and there is a very REAL possibility that this woman who is not fit to be President could be president. That is outrageous! And a slap in the face to the American people. It is very dangerous and reckless and this man has to be stopped! This — McCain’s Rush to Judgment — has unveiled the true persona (a dangerous, foolhardy and reckless man who puts party first before the country)! His campaign motto "Country First" is a lie and a deception — something GOP is good at, but not anymore. Where Hurricane Palin shall make landfall, I don't know; I only know that the Truth shall Prevail!
"Probably the most depressing thing about Palin is not her selection but the defense of it. It has produced a parade of GOP spokesmen intent on spiking the needle on a polygraph. Looking right into the camera, they offer statement after statement that they hope the voters will swallow but that history will forget. The sum effect on the diligent news consumer is a feeling of consummate contempt for the intelligence of the American people...."

Lieberman would have been his best pick. It would have gone a long way to get him independents. Of course I'm glad he didn't . McCain is a broken man. He has no idea what he's doing or why he's even running for president. Its like he's just going through the motions of campaigning.

Scarborough was going on and on about the horrors of involving a 17 yr old girl in political discourse.
Apparently the crude and vile joke McCain told about 18 yr old Chelsea Clinton at a Republican Fundraiser is different.....how???
The folks over at Crooks and Liars are saying the decision on Palin wasn't made by McCain, but for him by the Council For National Policy. I dunno if its as they say, but it sure wouldn't surprise me. Hell, McCain is so desperate for the White House he would even make Cindy Ms Buffalo Chip for crying out loud.

THANK YOU! This is all I have been writing over and over here since about saturday.
That it is now officially time for McCain to turn in his little tin "Maverick" badge, and exchange it for a set of puppet strings.
NO WAY is a person a maverick when they don't have the guts to follow their convictions.
They didn't ALLOW him to do what he wanted. Inundate our own PRESS with this little tidbit, every time someone calls him Maverick...

And who's the guy who's his own man, and didn't knuckle under pressure to pick a running mate that would have "guaranteed" a win?. A guy who made the pick himself, after careful vetting? A Veep who has credibility? Yep, the effete elitist Obambi.

McCain is a typical bully - anytime he's faced with any force stronger than he is, he will cave. He's only a "maverick" when facing off against a weaker opponent.

We know that Palin wasn't properly vetted, but a thought has occurred to me...
Could it be McCain knew Palin was "damaged goods" and selected her hoping when people realized how bad she was and how much support she had from the theocrats that it would damage the theocrat base? This would put him into a stronger position allowing him to name Lieberman or Ridge as her replacement...

I've thought of that as well. But blowing yourself up just to prove others wrong isn't necessarily the best way to win a presidential election.
Looks like the repubs watched Blazing Saddles too much (Sheriff Bart holding his own gun to his own head!).
Course.....being a progressive - what the hell do I know???

I think that Palin will withdraw her name "voluntarily." Her Alaska Independence Party affiliation and her support for Buchanan in 2000 are too much of a liability going forward.
Of course, she will cite the suffering that horrible liberal bloggers and the media are inflicting upon her family as her sole reason for withdrawing. Then McCain will replace her with someone palatable to fundies, possibly Pawlenty, and ramp up the hate on the media and the bloggers. Halperin and Co. will remind us that it's all good for John McCain in the end, and the crazy train will roll on.
Unless, as Joe suggested in his earlier post, they go into full-on bunker mode. The campaign could conflate any questioning of Palin's record as an attack upon her family. Liz Sidoti is already helping, penning a piece that focuses heavily on the media's treatment of her family issues:
That might just work for them. Pity if the AIP, Buchanan, and global warming stuff is drowned out by her outraged defense of her family, and her candidacy goes on.

The same thought entered my mind as well...you know, "liberals" beat up a woman...nevermind that she's simply not qualified.

Lieberman wasn't rejected just because of abortion rights. The Christian extremists would never stand for a Jew on the ticket - and a lot of the old money Republicans feel the same way. Why no mention of that?
Poor Gelding. He wanted his best buddy to come on this final journey with him, but those nasty fundies wouldn't let him do it.

McPlain was a maverick in his previous life, but he is a maverick no more. He said loud and clear that he is pandering to the conservative base by nominating Palin who is vociferously anti-gay and anti-choice. He will not only do away with R v W, but he will try to pass a federal marriage amendment.

Note to former Navy man McCain:
ANCHORS AWAY!
We progressives always knew the right-wing fundies were an anchor tied firmly around the repub party's neck. This anchor is now dragging McCain and the repub party straight down to the deepest part of the political ocean. Anchors away indeed. (Actually I think it's "aweigh", but I wasn't sure how to spell it. But you get the idea.)

It's kind of funny. The repubs tried to scare Obama into choosing Clinton for his running mate, but McCain ended up being the one who couldn't take the pressure.
He caved on torture, too. Some maverick.
