But he fears Obama. It won't be the same as debating his fellow GOPers.

I do not doubt his skills or knowledge, only his ability to use them. But he will be a master debater. That said, I hope he loses his temper!

What's McCain going to do if he can't read his teleprompter? This should be McCain's big debate because it's on foreign affairs. We will see how he does.

McCain displays a very condescending attitude when speaking of or to Obama......like...WHO are YOU to challenge ME.

What I want to hear is Obama actually call him out on his lies. When he says something that isn't true, I want to hear that it is a lie. No pussyfooting around - lies. I'm getting tired of people being able to say what they want as if it is an opinion when it has been shown not to be true. If Obama doesn't do that, this election will be as good as over....

McCain will do anything he can to denigrate Obama. I only hope that Obama, with his cool nature, will entice McCain to lose his temper and stumble. Once McCain gets angry he loses his composure.

Anyone hear this rumor from right-wingers that Biden will step down from the ticket on or about 10/5 citing health problems & be replaced w/Hillary????
I hope he does, but haven't heard anything other than friends and neighbors speculating just that.

October Surprise?? I haven't heard this and very much doubt it is anything more than a rumor.

It won't happen. Only two VP candidates have been replaced before an election (1912, 1972), and one of them DIED. It's just stupid rumor-mongering by the right wing hoping to divide the Democrats.

Looks like our idiot in chief will give a prime time speech tonight to inspire the country into rallying around the Paulson plan. Break out the American flags and John Phillips Sousa records.
I wonder if this privileged life failure drunk coward son of a walrus whore in pearls that resembles Allisair Crowley will threaten to veto any changes surely to come from Congress?.
Congress needs to say not to the bailout and let corrupt wealth get the return it so sorely deserves.
There is a financial monster in the closet and $1,800,000,000,000 (with modest interest) to be earned on the backs of taxpayers in the future only feeds the monster. Let the monster out of the closet today and let the chips fall where they may.
The White House just asked the national debt ceiling be raised another $700 billion, for the proposed financial-sector bailout. If that happens, in 2008 alone, $1.5 trillion will have been added to the national debt: every penny borrowed from your children and their children. Stated in today's dollars, in 1979 the entire national debt was $1.5 trillion. George W. Bush and Congress have in a single year added an amount equal to the entire national debt one generation ago. And the year's not over!

If Governor Asshat threatens to veto, Congress will call his bluff. Most of the changes floating around have widespread bipartisan support, so we will have enough to override anyway. Why put this into the hands of the morons who got us into this to begin with?

What specific provisions do you think will generate a veto threat?
Government taking equity? Government and court oversight? Limits on exec comp? Installments much less than $1,800,000,000,000? Homeowner mortgage relief? Bankruptcy promissory note relief?
Which above bill refinements, if any, can BushCo swallow without the threat of a veto?

Will his campaign have McCain wired to receive good answers the same way they did Bush in 04? Dick Morris put down his ham sandwich long enough to watch a debate...now that is funny!

This debate is about foreign affairs. I very much think McCain will push his "commander in chief" position. Polls show McCain is about 20 points higher than Obama in this area. It will be more of the "I can protect this country better than Obama."
It is just too damn bad the first debate is on foreign affairs. If it had been on the economy it would have been the end of the McCain campaign.

When your side is lying (repugs) the debate is more difficult. How do you lie and debate at the same time? I think gramps has to hit a homerun, if Obama holds or is slightly better with gramps being the master of foreign policy the repug will be considered a loser. Age will show at this debate, its at night when gramps is at his least attentive, he's use to going to sleep. Color, he is a pasty, unhealthy white blob (call in the best undertaker ya got?) that does not look good on camera, Obama is a slender, cool, poised.... 1st debate prediction - Obama wins it, McGramps looks tired.

Lie and debate at the same time?
good question....I've heard it said to be a good liar one needs a good memory.
At his age I doubt McGramp's memory is an asset at this point.
Now that the bailout includes other troubled assets, including bad credit card debt, bad car loans and bad student loans, close attention must be given to the draft proposal.
If passed the government will soon the creditor for all of this type of debt and banks will act as the "Agent" (it is in the draft proposal) for the government to collect this debt, with any actions not reviewable by a court. Rest assured the government will avail the onerous collection niceties currently enjoyed only by the IRS to the banks.

The long and the short of this will be that the bank will be empowered by the government to take summary collection action against debtors without recourse to the courts.

Not even a bankruptcy court.
If you think the 2005 Bankruptcy redo was a give away to credit card companies, you have not seen anything yet if this passes.
Does anybody know what the stage set-up will be? Will they be sitting or standing? Standing - advantage Obama (if they are allowing more than head shots), he's taller. Obama has the looks advantage and McCain looks so pasty, that's already a problem. JM is going to look ill next to vibrant Barack
No wonder they are already spinning. They are probably trying to avoid a Nixon/Kennedy Debate outcome.
They're great if they can just allow cameras in the debate for only 29 seconds.

Creepy grins, uncomfortable laughs, and hundreds of "My Friends" always win over voters.
That was 8 LONG years ago. Now he's just mean and crazy. Good luck keeping that temper under control gramps.

The Conventional Wisdom: Obama will stammer, be too nuanced, discursive, professorial. He will win on content among wonks, but lose the people. McCain will be like he was at Saddleback: crisp, decisive, commanding. He will rile up the wonks, but the people will be awed. And he will win the election because of it.

It is the CW, but Obama has spent much the past two years demolishing the CW.

How can you so irresponsibly say that McCain won the debate accoding to FOX? FOX is a joke so slanted republican there is 100% bias. Every other poll suggests Obama won @ 63%. Please use a reputable source or you look like irresponsible journalists!
This should be McCain's big debate because it's on foreign affairs. We will see how he does.

Only the market can resolve this matter finally.

Bush Disaster
Gregg Easterbrook gets it:
The White House just asked the national debt ceiling be raised another $700 billion, for the proposed financial-sector bailout.
