AMERICAblog: McCain would rather lose a NATO ally than admit a mistake

  • boloboffin · 1 year ago
Damn Spain! Get off my lawn!
  • shanobama · 1 year ago
I did hear McCain 'mis-hear' the word Europe or EU..he seemed to think she said 'you'.

But how could he have not heard her say 'Spain' a couple of times? He should be used to hearing a 'spanish' accented english after his recent rescue of the hostages in Columbia and his birhplace in Panama, his state of Arizonas huge latino population.

He is a bumbling dolt, who, like Bush, will never admit to any mistake.

He may just be a "military" type on foreign relations. You point him to the target and say "KILL". He takes it from there.

I think he is having cognitive difficulties. This is exactly how they start.

Covering confusion by switching the subject.

A refusal to admit they misunderstood.

Stubborn denial of what they said or did.

And lying. All the lying. The cognitively impaired tell you they took their medicine, they mailed that bill, they didn't give their credit card number to someone on the phone.

It's all a desperate attempt to deny their condition and make sense to themselves what is going on. I have compassion for them.

But it's certainly a troubling state in a potential President.

Yes, I saw this with my mother in the early/middle stages of dementia. All of that, in fact. Good point.

McCain needs to go for a cognitive test asap, and the doctors should be able to freely decide what is going on with his brain.
It would be terrible for this to have to happen while he is in office if the GOP are able to steal this election.

When they have the first debate, SOMEBODY needs to ask McCain what continent Spain is on.
  • martha · 1 year ago
This is not funny. This is so serious. But the media doesn't want to go there. They think this election is a game and they won't report on this disturbing interview and all its implications. Don't people in the media care about our country, don't they have children? It is mind boggling.

Perhaps someone just told him that among the human rights that Spain believes in, is the right for same sex couples to marry. Probably just creeped him out.

I wonder if McCain knows where France is.

Ten bucks sez he has no clue where Burkino Faso is.

In one of the more bizarre developments of campaign 2008, John McCain's campaign has announced that he won't be rolling out the White House welcome mat for Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, prime minister of America's NATO ally Spain. But if McCain's posture seems like an adolescent temper tantrum aimed at a critical member of Washington's Atlantic alliance, it's hardly an isolated episode. With his vitriolic Paris and Berlin-bashing in the run-up to the Iraq war in 2003, John McCain stood shoulder to shoulder with the France-hating purveyors of "freedom fries" and "old Europe."

    For the details, see:
"Snub of Spain Just McCain's Latest Europe Bashing."

John McCain has evolved into the old guy in blue coveralls doing all the talking in the coffee shop, while everyone knows the geezer doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

    OT -

Reid and Pelosi are on the verge of completely selling the soul and pockets of the American taxpayer to the Fed, both now and for generations to come. The cost of an RTC like vehicle will double our current deficit at a minimum. Congress should say no to sepmding any more taxpayer money moving forward. No proposal yet though.

When asked if he knew where the rain in Spain mainly falls, McCain wet his pants.

Oh, wait a minute! He's a Zonista, born and pampered in carefully segregated, whites-only Panama Canal Zone. What we have here is a born and bred vigilante, a klansman without a sheet. Bloody Mary's for brunch, cocktails at 2 at Mindy's house today, and happy hour at the Club. Talk about elitism! He personifies the American Commonwealth that never was. He's been lost in a vigilante segregationist's daydream of yesteryear since he was conceived.

    wow, well said.

I got the impression his old time relatives in the south probably owned slaves, too.
Was it Mississippi or Alabama? cant remember, OMG I'm getting alzheimers!

this is exactly what everyone is so sick and tired of...
is it so horrible to want a president with some basic common sense and ability and a staff that doesn't feel the need to go ballistic covering up for said president?
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
    What else happened today

Obama gave a good speech and said McCain can't decide if he wants to Kucinich or Goldwater.

Palin slipped and said it was the "Palin/McCain ticket

Rumor has it the Feds are getting together to buy all the bad mortgages

Obama is ahead and Olberman says he is at 51 1/2 to McCain's 47

This is serious because McCain not only could not admit a mistake but he could not comprehend what the reporter was saying, I listened both in English and Spanish, when she said what about Europe he answered something like what about me, but the real problem is that most people if they do not understand because of a heavy accent or because of a language barrier, they will politely try to get clarification from the person. Only very arrogant, and ignorant people will pretend like they understand what the person is saying. Adults ask questions, adults get clarification.

This is insulting, because the reporter was asking about Spain, and McCain just thought Spain=Spanish=Mexico=bad word?
  • kirkaracha · 1 year ago
Not only is the inability to admit a simple mistake a very Bush-like characteristic, but he's now adopting Bush's policy of shunning the Spanish government.

What was that song from "My Fair Lady"? You know, the one about the rain. The rain in Spain.

OK, I'm beginning to remember: "The rain in Spain falls mostly in...mostly in...in Latin America."

No, that can't be right. Maybe it was "Americain"? Latin Americain! Hey, that's gotta be it. It even rhymes!

Maybe now we can make a campaign jingle: "The rain in Spain falls mostly on McCain!"
