It's an old coot concept. And I'm pretty sure he said "whup". Old coots can't get their legs high enough to kick ass without tipping over. If they just swing aound fast enough, their arms swing out and would make contact about posterior high.

it's also very probable that "whip" was used in this particular instance BECAUSE of it's connection to what was a well accepted practice in the "good old south" for treatment of "uppity" folks...
and with the crowds that McCain / Palin are drawing ... well, let's just say, they aren't the most "tolerant" folks out there...

Seriously-I remember that music from early childhood-the early '70s. That song was used on TV and if I had to guess, it was on PBS. Someone please tell me the name, artist and or what show it was the theme to; it'll drive me crazy otherwise ;-)
