AMERICAblog: McCain's Night at Foxwoods Casino: A tale of how the gambling industry came to love McCain and all of his lobbyists.

  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Obama: cool poker player who uses artful bluff and good luck in equal measure to win the kitty.

McCain: sweaty, cursing Vegas craps shooter, throwing the dice just that one last time in order to get the family car out of hock to drive the family back to Ohio.

No real problem there. He still has twelve more cars to choose from.

Meanwhile, back at the off-Strip no-tell motel, the wife and kids are waiting for her father to wire getting-home money through Western Union.

    Psst.....Crazy Old Man.

    You crapped out with Palin.

It's like all the premarital sex going on in the Palin household. The religious right will ignore, explain, and excuse it away for the better good of bringing an end to Roe v Wade and introducing Creationism into our public schools.
It's a price the fundies are willing to pay.

I keep thinking that if lil Bristol had used a condom instead of Captain Morgan's rum she most likely wouldn't be pregnant.
From the pictures that I've seen posted of the Palin household, liquor was an integral part of their daily lives. They just kept the liquor on the kitchen counter to make it easier for lil Bristol and Justin to use for their MySpace posed pictures. So, either the kids were stealing the booze, or Palin was allowing underage drinking to take place. Either way it's still piss poor parenting and highly indicative of the Palin's priorities of office over family. Caribou Barbie is a failure of the lowest quality.

    And good morning to you!

There are a number of references online concerning the relation between military service/trauma and problematic gambling addiction.

    Here's one for example:

"Military: Pathological gambling is significantly more prevalent among military veterans than in the US general population and has been associated with combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder. Studies have shown that 20% of veterans have problematic gambling."

good article. and now if we can just have some pictures, please, of McCain gambling that can be used to give this story some legs. Wouldnt a tv ad with clips be great?

And when will we see a You Tube clip of McCain's performance on This Week this am? I don't understand why his cheek is swollen from surgery--how long ago was it? Is he receiving injections at the site? And does he have some facial nerve damage or palsy?

Let us remember his father died young. McCain may have inherited his mother's constitution. But we just don't have the information we need.

If they rigged the game for me like they did for McCain I would gamble every night at a Native American casino.

Along these same lines, 30 ministers across the country will step over the line separating Church and State today by openly endorsing McCain from the pulpit. This is an orchestrated effort to overturn the federal tax law.
If the Fed’s do not pull these churches tax free status, we will lose another piece of the Constitution.

Here's a question: did Rick Davis tell John McCain about his arrangement with Freddie Mac before last week? If not, then I would expect Davis to be fired within days: you just don't keep information like that from your boss and expect to keep your job. But if Davis did tell McCain, then when McCain approved his ad slamming Obama for supposedly having an advisor who had been the chairman of Fannie Mae -- though both he and the Obama campaign deny that he advised them, and his connection to Obama would have been tenuous in any case -- McCain knew that his own campaign manager had been retained by Freddie Mac until it was taken over by the government. That would be dishonorable, though not, unfortunately, surprising.

    Dishonorable? McCain?

I wonder how many free games he got to play, staked by the house so he could have FUN, and other non-reported-as-gifts stuff? Free show passes for Steve and Edie?

    Mashantucket Pequot

Well now that's interesting. One of the attorneys for the Mashantucket Pequot (a white guy) testified last week at a hearing in front of Dorgan's Indian Affairs committee. I'll dig it up to see if any connection.

All he has to do is pretend that he now is against gambling. The repugnacans don't care about the truth. If you try to engage them in an intelligent conversation about the issues the minute you disagree with their position they resort to name calling. Any evidence you present is from a biased source. It's not even worth the effort to talk to anyone calling themself a conservative.
  • ThingsComeUndone · 1 year ago
Gambling is a great way to launder money and contribute to McCain all you need to do is arrange for McCain to win. Any numbers on McCain's win they should be in his tax records if he won enough I think.
  • IAmATVJunkie · 1 year ago
This story is a must read. It really shows you how a call to McCain pal Wes Gullet makes it a lot easier to get what you want out of the Indian Affairs committee.

And, it describes a favor done for Lieberman that looks very, uh ... untoward.

But is there too much nuance to explain in this story for it to make an impact?

I worked at Foxwoods in the early nineties. I always thought it was hilarious how the Mashantucket Pequots got their casino. There are only a few hundred of them, and they were scattered-most of them didn't even know the name of the tribe they belonged to, or any of their history. A bunch of Chinese gangsters got the Mormon's to do the geneological research to find them, so they could apply for tribal status. The Mormon's got totally suckered-they didn't know the ultimate plan was to open a casino, which these Chinese guys have a huge financial stake in. You have to laugh...
