I got the New Yorker parody and get most jokes, no matter how disgusting the joke. This one stumps me. I cannot find any possible interperation that even is remotely funny. Somebody please help me how this is considered a joke.

The ape is black. He is the substitute for a big , black man. don't you know that deep down that is what white women want most and what white men fear most? A big black, well-hung ape taking their women.

not so much a joke as a male sex fantasy. mccain is more comfortable discussing bestiality than birth control.
(for those unfamiliar with male sex fantasies: they're about how women love to be manhandled.)

How disappointing. I always thought men fantasized about women taking control and demanding nasty sex.

that's probably more accurate. the gorilla rape story is water-cooler swagger.

That's funny, the first time I read the joke I though the doctor was speaking as well.
Now we have a good new nickname: McRape.

Okayyyy....the punchline escapes me completely. Apart from being in poor taste, it's not even really a joke- so, 2 demerits.

The joke would be funny if you had McCain's distinguished military experience.
OK, female Hillary voters who are still vowing to vote for McCain: had enough yet?

The odd thing about this is that gorillas are known for NOT being particularly "well-endowed". You might say that their 'size' belies their 'size' - or something close to that.
So, McSame knows nothing about gorillas - which goes to make an already unfunny 'joke' even more unfunny.
It must be a nightmare to be a public figure. It's bad enough to live a private existence and make a fool of yourself; but when you're public and famous and you are constantly humiliating yourself with stoopid crap like this 'joke', I would imagine that you'd have to have an ego made of steel to protect yourself from having to face the truth of your own idiocy.

I wonder it is ego or the bubble around him always telling him how funny and wonderful he is? If he avoids TeeVee and printed publications, only getting info from his inner circle, it would be easy.

well... he said he was immature when he dumped his first wife for a younger, rich one... and that was at 42...
maybe he's very slow to mature... I mean, he was only 49 when he made the rape joke.
so... by the time he's 72 he might be mature enough to sell used cars. and by the time he's 100 or so, maybe he'd be okay for POTUS.

This fits in perfectly with McCains record on womens rights and other womens issues.....on womens right to privacy, on birth control, on equal pay.
Because he started his adult life by dating (dating?) a stripper. He is the old school male who loves to turn women into objects for mens amusement or gratification. This is a guy who could not tell, had no clue, that his wife was addicted to drugs.
He just cannot see women as being equals to men (or GLBT people either), specifically white men. He is the stereotypical old white male in the way he approaches anything to do with sexual issues. He can get away with anything because of this, because, you know 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge', he belongs to the old boys club.
And 'boy' is the operative word here. His understanding of women and sexual issues stopped at the male puberty 15 or 16 year old level.

We must always remember that McCain is a HERO who now boasts that he knows how to win wars. Should we define the word hero or just put this boast into the McCain jokes file?

He and Cindy make a great power couple: Cindy spent most of her time at USC blackballing minority pledges to her lily-white sorority. Was known as a *huge* unreconstructed, old fashioned racist.

Anyone catch Halperin on MSNBC's Race for the Whitehouse today? He was commenting on how "hilarious John McCain is" and how "he's just a really really funny guy". I think the McCain clip he was referring to was McCain commenting about Obama having a plan on Iraq before visiting there and while everyone else thought it was a throwaway line, Halperin believed it to be just SO funny, like all the other funnies that (sick, twisted, violent-prone) jokester McCain's said.

Forget McCain being 49 -- there's no excuse for making a joke like that in 1986. Honestly, up until about 1973 you can maybe claim ignorance. But after that, you're just a king-sized asshole.

AP News story from ten or twenty years in the future ...
The Library of Congress announced today that it has obtained the complete joke file of John McCain, former candidate for US President and Senator.
"These jokes are a treasure-trove for researchers," a spokesperson for the Library of Congress said. "Scholars at leading universities in the areas of gender studies, African and African American Studies and other subjects will spend decades deciphering attitudes of early twentieth century American males in McCain's work."
McCain, born in an era before radios and television had erased the oral traditions of his generation, preserved a remarkable portfolio of inappropriate and misogynist jokes and stories passed among men of his generation in bars, at parties or on visits to a "barber shop", a male-only predecessor to today's hair salons.
"They're the kind of thing that weren't well preserved," the LOC spokesperson said. "Even in the 50s, they wouldn't be repeated in polite company and no one thought to write them down. There were some companies that recorded jokes like this for "party records" for sale to men "under the counter", but they don't give a true picture of mid-century American male thinking and culture."
McCain's joke file is only the latest in a steady stream of rare material given to the Library of Congress in recent months. Scholars are particularly excited about the transcripts of commentaries by Jesse Helms discovered at WRAL, a television station owned by Helms during his rise to the Senate.
"Before these Helms transcripts emerged," one scholar recently noted in an email list, "we had no idea how much of a racist, misogynist bigot Helms really was. Now we can more fully understand how he motivated voters in North Carolina and can gain insights into the thinking behind his often nonsensical and reckless legislative agenda."

Yes, it's a stupid and crass joke, I can imagine it's probably tame compared with what cynical dumbya must come up with....
♥ OK, he told a version that didn't really have a punch. But the gay version:
A guy picks up some rough trade in a bar, takes him home and after he gets happily fucked to within an inch of his life the guy beats him up, robs him and leaves him for dead. He spends a weak in a coma and after reviving starts to cry. A nurse, who has been taking care of him comes over and tries to comfort him. "Don't worry, everything will be OK," she said. And he replied, "Be OK, everything will be OK?! After a week he don't write, he don't call, he don't send flowers and you are going to say everything is gonna be OK!"
It's an old joke from another era but STILL McSame can't tell a joke. AND THAT IS THE GREATER CRIME!

Obama is now leading in most national and state polls but by margins in single digits. He's run a strong campaiggn up to now compared to a rather feeble one by Bush/Rove/McSame/ and the RNC. How can such a feeble candidate such as McSame, running 95% on the Bush disaster, be even as close as single digits? That is the question which is the unspoken secret of 2008.
"I'm not sure exactly what the wording was of the joke, but something was said. Some joke involving a rape and ape was said" These were the words of the reporter who wrote the original article. Why would anyone else then present a 'quote' from this kind of source, when the author can't seem to get the words right- Somehow, I don't really see John McCain showing such an attitude in his record of public service, so where's the tape with an actual statement? Get a real issue.
Reminds me of an older, slower, more lecherous Bush.
