  • FunMe · 1 year ago
    I am having PRIMARY FATIGUE.

Can Hillary really hold her Delegates hostage like that? Seems a bit unfair to people who believe in a Democracy.

Whatever. Maybe she can start fighting it out with Holy Joe for the VP slot in McSame's campaign.

This whole Hillary episode really and literally makes my stomach turn.

This is as good a time as any to admit that I don't understand this whole thing with Florida and Michigan. I've been under the impression that it was the state Democratic party voters who got screwed because of something a few people did. But John's post makes it sound like the whole party voted on it in each state. Which is it? If it was just a few people and I lived in either state, I'd be pissed as hell. Can someone please clarify this for me?
  • Cjeffery · 1 year ago
My understanding is it was the states legislator that decide win to have the elections and all the state legislators knew when they voted that they were breaking the party rules. This explains it . http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/du...

There are those who say that Hillary is destroying the Democratic Party, But in fact ,much of the Party has been suffering a prolonged death from anorexic moral deprivation.

Shillary on RFK: "Well look, if you can't take the heat... It's fair game, it's only the truth anyway, we have to consider all possibilities, I had to remind people...''

Is this an actual quote? Do you have the link to it?

"practically every single Democrat voted in favor of the decision that ultimately led to them losing their delegates"

WTF? Are you ignorant of the process, John? True, the Democrats in the Florida legislature voted for the date change, but they had no ability to control the decision because of the Republican majority. Your comment implies that Florida VOTERS had a say in the matter. For God's sakes, if you don't know the facts, please don't spread this nonsense.
  • switched · 1 year ago
Definitely worth a clarification. I'm thinking John was referring to every single Democrat in the Florida legislature. I love Florida... Check this out:

Ok this race has got to end and it has become obvious that Clinton is not going to get out until she is Happy. It is almost like Obama the little brother has to make his big sister Clinton happy yet still protect his best interest and seem like the good guy. Here is the my thought on the first step to making this happen. We have to seat FL and MI here is how we do that in a semi fair way and this should make Clinton happy and if it doesn't she can go to hell. We use the current election results but in FL Obama gets his delegates and Edward's. Edwards has endorsed Obama and no one should have a problem with this. In MI Obama gets the number of delegates associated with uncommitted. This gives Clinton a 15% win in MI. Now we do have to punish both the states for moving there elections up even if in FL it was the GOP ran legislative that decide this we do this by only sitting 50% of there delegates. This is the best solution I can come up with. Clinton can't be mad with getting a 15% victory in a state were the other candidates names were not on the ballot and Florida is almost split even.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
What about this for a solution: Give Hillary and Barack the delegates they won in Florida, and then since his name wasn't on the ballot, just split Michigan 50/50. Splitting Michigan puts them exactly where they are now, they both get delegates but they move ahead by the same amount. Florida was won by Hillary (questionable of course) but even if they just take what they each got, she is STILL behind Barack.

I just don't know how else to solve it.
  • Cjeffery · 1 year ago
I'm fine with this has long has Edwards get his delegates also.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Forgot about Edwards' delegates. Yes absolutely he should get them and be free to use them as he see fits, as was posted below I would assume his would move to Obama since he endorsed him. I just SO want this thing over. Scott McClellan's book is being leaked, he trashes the Bush administration and it would be so great for Obama, AS THE OFFICIAL NOMINEE, to link Bush to McCain again and again, and this book can only help remind people. Sigh...How about a new rule in 2012: No one can run until 3 months before the first primaries? haha.

I'm SOOO burned out by all of this...

Hillary's as addicted to hurting Obama as Cindy McCain is to stealing pills
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
Given the party rules, this situation was inevitable.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Obama is only 48.5 delegates away from a majority...
  • Cjeffery · 1 year ago
If FL and MI seat there delegates then the line moves a least that is my understanding.
  • mista · 1 year ago
Florida and Michigan cannot be restored, half, whole or any part, period, without a new vote. Too many people stayed home for the previous vote to count, under any circumstances.
We have come to the point where we must discuss who the leadership of the Democratic party supports. It must be very disheartening, to them, that their opinions don't matter. But if they want to get on the unelectable bandawagon, when Hillary runs in 2008, 2012, or whenever ... then just keep supporting this Clinton b.s. If this once great country lasts that long, we'll have new Demorcrats (or perhaps even a third party) that destroys them.
  • KISSman · 1 year ago
Wasn't Hillary banking on them seating the delegates exactly as they 'voted' and in full? I mean, if these states only get half, isn't her teeny-weenie glimmer of hope dashed by this news?
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Let's grow up, get past the pretense that the Democratic Party is anything other than a coalition of state parties and interested participants. The effort to remold the Democrats into a Republican model of national conformism is badly conceived and contrary to Democratic values.

The state party makes its own rules; the national coalition works with respect for the independent streak that makes Democrats Democrats. For national conformity, go to the GOP. For independent thought and progressive aciton, the coalition of liberally minded groups that are the FDR coalition are the only hope for progress.

Let go of the conformity model, learn to think independently. Never mind clever electioneering schemes, begin with respect for independent decisions.

Here's a proposal for ya, well at least for Florida (Michigan is a whole different can of worms.) Seat all of the delegates, but don't seat their superdelegates. This way the people who really get the punishment are the people who really deserve it - the politicians in the state that caused the problem in the first place.

I just wonder how much Bill is behind all the Hillary stuff? Including the FL & MI spin. So Bill – let’s talk. Puh-lease let Hillary step aside with dignity. Okay, fair enough - when she is ready. But don’t make it more difficult than what it should be. There is no “cover up”. Except if we can call your spin since Monica and now the “Hillary working class hero” and “wrap up in June” bull. Back off Bill. You had your chance. No be a good ex-President and go talk to someone who cares. http://angryafrican.net/2008/05/27/bill-just-ba...

In response to your comment, I think you make an interesting point, but we shouldn't confuse "independence" with self serving opportunism which is what we have with FL MI and Hillary, which are truly republican characteristics. And speaking as a Floridian it is my firm opinion that we follow the rules and not seat Fl or MI. Whats fair is fair, its that simple. let me just add that you should never never never reward this kind of selfish anti-social behavior. Not unless you want to live in misery, It will bite you in the ass every time, and don't expect that they will be grateful for your "kindness" they'll just keep demanding more and more.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Agree with all you say, John, but are there extenuating cirumstances in Florida? Did the Repub. legislature force the Dems into an early date?
  • purplegirl · 1 year ago
Someone mentioned primary fatigue. I'm so burned out by all this I no longer care what's fair or right. If Obama will still maintain a majority if both FL and MI are seated in full, and Clinton will no longer have anything to keep harping about or have anymore excuses to keep going, then seat them and let this thing be OVER! We can "punish" these states next time, but for now let's just end this circus and shut this crazy woman up. No matter which way they decide to seat or not to seat, someone will be disenfranchised. There's no way around that. Those who didn't vote will be disenfranchised if the delegates are divided according to who won the vote, and those who are whining about every vote being counted, those who voted knowing their votes wouldn't count, will be disenfranchised if they aren't counted at all, and just dividing the delegates 50-50 is like not counting the delegates at all...sheesh. This is truly one of those circumstances where you can't please all the people no matter what you do. If Hillary doesn't get what she wants she will keep up this nonsense and we will all end up losing...the general. She isn't going to win anyway, and by giving her all the delegates and still losing she will look like the ass she is.
