Interesting link on Newt Gingrich and Messaging I read just the other day. Thought I'd share since you mentioned it.

Notes of winning already:
A SUSA poll today showed that 59% of the respondants in CA favored allowing the existing gay marriages to stand - a positive showing.
And of those who voted yes on Prop 8, 8% said the protests have made them changed their minds. We're talking MOE territory here, but that would be enough to change the results of the election.

I still think that many people were confused by the language and voted yes when they meant no. Especially the black voters.

Prop 8 was absolutely a galvanizing moment. The Right-Wing cops have just stepped into the wrong NY bar (again) and they have no idea what they're in for. The original Stonewall is going to look like a Sunday-school picnic if they keep bashing us.
We are not going to take it anymore.

The fight isn't about "redefining marriage," gay marriage, or anything else the theofascists say. It's about recognizing that the Constitution applies to every American equally, something republicans have opposed since 1787. Arguing that "the people of CA have spoken" is meaningless if they've spoken with an unconstitutional law. Stay on message: "It's my Constitution, too, whether you like it, or not."

Re: Medicare is cutting home oxygen funding For those who rely on supplemental oxygen to breathe and remain in their homes verses the hospital and nursing home, we have only 5 weeks to act. Medicare is cutting funding for home oxygen to everyone that has been on oxygen for 36 months. This is serious business for those who go to dialysis, doctor visits, or just enjoy getting out of the house. Starting January Medicare will allow payment for only one (1) cylinder per month. They are cutting all reimbursement for supplies, equipment, and services. Those on home oxygen will now be responsible for over $200/month for their supplies, services, emergency calls, etc. Many will be unable to afford these costs and will end up in emergency rooms, hospital stays, and nursing homes just to have access to the oxygen supply needed to stay alive. Medicare will pay more for one (1) visit to the hospital than they would have paid to continue quality oxygen service at home for an entire year. Congress must act immediately to stop this insanity. If Congress fails to intervene these serious Medicare cuts will begin effecting thousands of home oxygen patients in January. In addition it will have disastrous effects on small business owners who provide services for home oxygen patients. Bankrupting the small business owners will then affect the manufactures with millions of dollars of bad debt. I implore you to get involved immediately.
Unfortunately our loyal Congress folk have just left on a 2 month vacation. Paid with those classic full medical benefits. I have not heard this, good to know. Well, bad to know, but you know what I mean.
Here is an interesting article on this http://www.nipcweb.com/Medicare_Spends_Billions.... Instead of Congress changing the fee structures, they would rather once again stick it to the citizens. It is outlandish that Medicare is charged (and pays) these amounts. Generally, when a charge is less than the insurance maximum the lesser amount is paid. These providers are defrauding Medicare. Obama spoke on the trail of increasing audits looking for fraudulent claims. I am in the business so I know there have been hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of overpayments throughout the medical system.

I can't make a stronger comment than quoting Jay Fisette, Arlington, VA County Board and the first openly elected gay official in Virginia:
"To be gay or lesbian in the year 2005 is to be political. Not by choice - but for our survival. We have been thrust into this as the whipping post, the wedge issue, and the fund raising scare tactic of political opportunists for too long."

"I keep hearing all of this nonsense about us lgbts attacking people, about us using intimidation and violence to oppress people, about us somehow being ugly aggressors."
Get prepared for more of this as Faux News (especially O'Reilly) are hyping reports that angry lgbts are attacking their opponents. Interesting though how O'Reilly, Malkin and other right wing talking heads have yet to report on the lgbts who have been attacked themselves. O'Reilly has another report on his show tonight about some Christian who was attacked by gays.....but nothing about gay haters doing any of the attacking. Fair and balanced not.

Is there video or just "victim" statements? And the slanted news of the year award goes to "FOX News". They are the only ones who have ever won in this category.....
Fight Back!
Totally agree on this. It's all I'm currently seen, yet they completely ignore the fact that they started the attacks. People have a right to fight back, and that is what we are doing. These people crossed the line, and we should not stop! One guy said it's not persecution it's the "gospel," Greek for spreading the word or something like that. They're bringing up adam and eve claiming they had a civil marriage. Maybe they bonded, but I doubt they went to a civil court to get a license of marriage. The adam and eve story is plagiarized old Sumerian myth stories, and when they took the story, and rewrote it they left out adams first mate who, I think, was a Goddess. Since they wanted to oppress the women they left out the Goddess part and made her into the snake of the story. They also claim that marriage is ordained by "god," yet the church never even adopted the practice of marriage later on. Civil marriage is inherited Pagan practices for proving property rights and other legal matters. They still use leviticus and romans 1:27, yet ignore other parts of the scripture that attack adultery, fornication and killing your children who curse you. Isn't one sin no greater than the other according to scripture? They also use what I call "new age" interpretations of the bible that are designed to suit their translations, not the older bibles. When you read the newer bibles roman 1:27 and the older bible they are not actually the same, the newer sounds harsher, in my opinion, yet the older doesn't sound so bad. The bible doesn't even criticizes misconduct of same-sex love any more than it does opposite-sex relationships. Some allege that there isn't such a thing as "separation of church and state," yet the Mormons are claiming it's their religious liberty, go figure. How would that work? How would they like for us to make a vote on banning "The Book of Mormon" since it's considered blasphemous to some Christian's, lets not forget about the prophet! Aside from all their claims, this is no longer about same-sex marriage, they crossed the line by messing with California's constitution, this is a threat for everyone in California, not just same-sex couples! It's violation of religious liberty, not to mention a violation for Atheists, what about other faiths, that do offer ceremonies for same-sex couples and want to continue offering them. The vote is illegal because it's taking away equality and rights of California citizens, and why should the Morons in Utah be the ones to dictate this for California. Prior to the vote they used typical religious scare tactics to get votes and the Mormons Phone Banks didn't even stop until around October 25. I had already voted several weeks earlier before they stopped their Mormon Phone Banks in Utah, and their were more than 3 million ballots mailed out, many of them are elderly people. What kind of tactics and lies did their Utah Mormon Phone Banks say to these elderly voters? Their political ads up to the votes were also lies, but they were not even countered until later by other adds, many people had already voted. The prop passed at 52%, and that is a narrow majority, and when you think of the typical religious lies, I'm sure the prop would not of passed. People should learn about history, so we can counter their claims about same-sex relationships.

Oh puhleeze...the old Adam and Eve stuff from them? Well, just remind them that the first "civil" marriage was God and Adam, and since God created Adam in his "image," it was obviously a same-sex union. And Eve was the product of their consummation.

Those idiots try to frame the struggle for gay marriage as us taking something away from them. So now that they have managed to take away from us the legal right to marry in California, they have to shout even louder that we are the aggressors. Otherwise people might take a look at them and ask, "Hey, why are you picking on those gay folks? What have they done to you?"

NEWT IS SO RIGHT, AND YOU GUYS ARE SO WRONG!!
You know I am so tired of groups of 'teh gays' harassing me and beating me up for being heterosexual and trying to legislate my heterosexual marriage out of existence.
Thanks Newt for standing up for me, because there is nobody else to watch out for middle-aged financially secure heterosexual white guys!!

And another important bit of history to remember with regard to Newt. In 1993, just after Clinton was sworn in, the right used his promise to end discrimination in the military to rally against him, and they basically engineered his first big defeat by taking hold of the agenda, making this the first thing, and using it as a club against everything he stood for.
Regardless of the fact that Obama has said he isn't in favor of marriage, you can be sure that Newt is using this all over again, and any violence at our demos actually plays into his hands.
When Ann Northrup was giving instructions to the marshalls at the demo in NYC last week, saying that it was important to defuse all possibly violence, I yelled out that it was now time for all agent provocateurs to identify themselves. Because if you think they aren't there, you are naive.
The FBI infiltrated GAA before they went to demonstrate at the political conventions of 1976 (you can actually download their files at http://foia.fbi.gov/foiaindex/gayalli.htm) and as an old GAA member, who knew that we were scrupulous about non-violent disobedience, the claims of weapons stockpiling and planned disturbances are clear lies. We also knew there were agents present, though no one knew who they were, and we were wary of provocateurs.
I am not sure the new so-called "Activism 4.0" has any awareness of this.

So when are we going to see a strong point of view on OUR side. . .in OUR voices...in the mainstream media? All I see and hear is a parade of wingnuts echoing the same line of shit. . .and at some point we better find some people who are fed up enough to articulate our anger and our own righteous indignation at this continual treatment and the abhorrent circular argument which is the Right's claim to "defense of marriage."

All I can say at this point in response to these is to rest assured there are people right now working on establishing a rational, intelligent cohesive strategy for our side. Not everyone will be pleased with that plan probably, and perhaps it will not get the most face time in the press, but rest assured, it is in the works. We do need to begin rational discussions on both sides in cooperation with those who are willing to take to the streets.
We need to influence these people the way Barack Obama influenced the nation; by being on the ground in all 50 States and never losing sight of the goal. The goal by the way is so much more than the right to marry. It is FULL EQUALITY FOR ALL UNDER TE US CONSTITUTION.

That's just crazy! He's apparently not including the rest of us who loathe this discrimination being written into our state's constitution who are not part of the lgbt community. This is NOT the "us vs them" issue he is trying to make it sound. Whenever someone tries to use that mentality with me regarding this issue I quickly insist, and loudly, that this about CIVIL RIGHTS. It's not about religion, it's not about being gay or straight, it's not about affecting anyone else's marriage...it's about our right to be treated the same no matter who we are or what we practice. I'm so SICK of the ignorance.
