Whenever I see the words "blow" and "GOP" in the same headline or subhead, my stance gets a bit wider...

Oh thank the gods, Bond's leaving. He's always made my arse ache, particularly his "speeches" on the Senate floor.

Good riddance to all the bad rubbish.

As a Missourian I am doing my "happy dance". Christopher "Kit " Bond is a joke and I am glad to see him going.
Discussion has been that the GOP is in total disarray here....they were beaten badly in the Gubernatorial race. As a matter of fact the only GOP to win was Lt Gov Peter Kinder. His campaign passed out sample ballots with all the Democratic candidates marked except in the Lt Gov spot..

I'm from MO too. Wish I had your optimism. The House and Senate are overwhelmingly controlled by the Repubs. I don't see Nixon being able to get much done. Too many brainwashed rednecks around here to ever change that, I don't think.

    Sooooooo . . . 65 Senate seats in 2010?
  • devlzadvocate · 10 months ago
but will 65 seats be enough? lol
  • scytherius · 10 months ago
HAHA Excellent point! Let's make it 64 and throw Harry Reid to the dogs.
  • ProgressiveTroll · 10 months ago
YES! Bond knew he would lose against Robin. She just got the most votes in MO history. Can't wait to have her in the Senate, although losing her as Sec. of State will not be good. Missouri has to keep a Dem in that post. I've said here many times, please work hard for Dems in the Secretary of State positions in all 50 states, it's the most important thing.

Oakland Protests Turn Violent After Police Shooting, NYT Says

I live in Berkeley and there were delays on BART due to the violent protests. While I think the protesters have every right to be angry, I cannot help but see the sharp contrast between real violent protests and the peaceful protests I witnessed and participated in after Prop 8.

Good riddance to this asshole! He's been lording over us Missourians for too long.

Robin Carnahan would be TEH awesome to represent us in the Senate.

Martinez is hopeless. I will be glad to see him go. The man has done NOTHING for Florida. He ran an unscrupulous campaign against Betty Castor, and he hitched his star to the Bushies. Bu-Bye Mel. You homophobic schmuck.

I think we can turn the FL seat Blue in 2010. I am confident.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Senate voiced strong support Thursday for Israel's battle against Hamas militants in Gaza, while urging a ceasefire that would prevent Hamas from launching any more rockets into Israel.

The chamber agreed on a voice vote to the non-binding resolution co-sponsored by Democratic and Republican party leaders in the chamber.

"When we pass this resolution, the United States Senate will strengthen our historic bond with the state of Israel, by reaffirming Israel's inalienable right to defend against attacks from Gaza, as well as our support for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said before the vote.

Noting that Israel was bent on halting Hamas rocket fire into its southern towns, Reid said: "I ask any of my colleagues to imagine that happening here in the United States. Rockets and mortars coming from Toronto in Canada, into Buffalo New York. How would we as a country react?"
    ------------------

Oh, please--what an asinine analogy. Nothing about the 700 Palestinians killed, or the fact that Israel killed 4 of its own soldiers by friendly fire (out of a total of 11 Israels killed, 8 of them soldiers).

Roy Blunt the 'leading candidate' for Bond's Senate seat, governor says
Robin Carnahan likely Democratic favorite for Senate seat
    Chad Livengood • clivengood@news-leader.com • January 8, 2009

JEFFERSON CITY — U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt would be "the leading candidate" to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Kit Bond in 2010, his son, outgoing Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, told the News-Leader today.

“I think he makes a lot of sense in a lot of different ways,” Matt Blunt told the News-Leader in a telephone interview.

Blunt said he had a brief conversation with his father about Bond's surprise retirement announcement today, but had "no real strategic discussion or anything in the nature."

Roy Blunt has not made any comments to the media about his intentions, but issued a statement today praising Bond for his nearly 40 years of public service.

"After almost four decades of service, the contributions Kit made are interwoven in the history of Missouri and our nation," Congressman Roy Blunt said in a statement. "Missourians know that Kit Bond always fought for us and has led the fight to keep our country safe."

Former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent and outgoing state Treasurer Sarah Steelman both told the News-Leader they also are interested in the seat.

    Story Continues....
