Portland mayor Sam Adams won't resign; he will brazen it out. Meanwhile, the state conducts a criminal investigation.

He is not good for the Gays. He is the gay Blago.
  • triple7s · 10 months ago
If "JUST OUT" is calling for him to resign, then it's probably over. He has to carefully weigh the damage he could do to the gay and lesbian community in PDX.

I was hoping Blago was gay, he's got those big brown eyes.

How long will the Republicans obstruct and how long will the Democrats cave? How much has really changed?
I'm like someone from Missouri: show me.

Republicans are so scared of Obama having any success....

They want his policies to fail....no matter how many Americans would be hurt ...

Mr. Obama certainly had an excellent 1st week no matter the carping from the scattered and discredited Rethugs promoted, of course, by the equally discredited corporate anything but in this case media.
Turning on the Chicken Noodle Network this AM a few minutes before 7, I heard a terrific interview subject knock down the guest female anchor's constant pushing of last week's anti-Obama GOP spin that closing GitMo will cause another 9/11.
Before 15 minutes had passed another attempt to push the GOP line with the standard "some people say" line...In one package the "some people" were Mitch Mc Connell and Francis Townsend in another alleged report the male anchor grudgingly announced Mr. Obama approved air strikes last week in Afghanistan (not too widely reported on cable amid the "some people" GitMo nonsense) as he intro-ed CNN's Pentagon reporter who fretted Obama was radically shifting Bush's war approach.
If all this wasn't bad enough the guest female, tossing to commercial around 7:15 AM, called Mr. Obama, "President Bush".
My "some people" think Bush's cable Amen corner needs direct challenges to the sources for things like the GitMo and 9/11 smear and regular, specific IDs for these ubiquitous mystery some peoples...

I say call the Republican bluff on the stimulus. Wall St. is counting on the stimulus, and if the Republicans try to block it they will take the blame for the ensuing crash in the market. While they ought to care about this prospect, how much do nihilists care about anything?

" President Obama will direct federal regulators on Monday to move swiftly on an application by California and 13 other states to set strict automobile emission and fuel efficiency standards, two administration officials said Sunday.
The latest on President Obama, the new administration and other news from Washington and around the nation. Join the discussion. The directive makes good on an Obama campaign pledge and signifies a sharp reversal of Bush administration policy. "

Isn't it ironic that it took a Democratic president to cooperate with a Republican governor?

    from AmericanConservative:

    Reid Buckley:

Meantime, on the practical front, what can conservatives do? The very first thing is to dissociate from the Republican Party, which has become an albatross around the neck of integrity.

I like how the repubs think their hero Bush scared the terrorist away. But there are so many news report out now that Al Qaeda are scrambling to find ways to continue their propaganda against the west when Iraq War is coming to an end and Gitmo is closed down.
So two presidents, two ways of stopping terrorist. One started an expensive and without common sense war that take away thousands of American soldiers lives (and ten times more lives of the Iraqi civilians). Obama just simply close down Gitmo, and then suddenly Al Qaeda are scared shitless.

I think it is safe to say, America finally has a leader she deserves.

    Minneapolis hate crime:

The woman says she left work in the Minneapolis Uptown district Thursday night and was walking to a grocery store. She says two men in front of her started calling her epithets referring to sexual orientation. She says before she knew what was happening, she was being beaten in the head and face and kicked repeatedly in the stomach.

She says the attack left her unconscious. When she awoke she called a friend, who called police.
She was taken to a hospital with a severe concussion.

Keep working on those jobs programs, Mr. President.

Caterpillar announced 20,000 layoffs this am, Sprint/Nextel, 8,000.

More expected this week as companies report 4th quarter earnings (or non-earnings).

an. 26 (Bloomberg) -- The Kuwait Investment Authority, the country’s sovereign wealth fund, will own 16 percent of Gulf Bank KSC after the commercial bank’s capital increase.

Gulf Bank, which last November announced 375 million dinars ($1.3 billion) of losses from derivatives trading, doubled the bank’s capital by issuing 1.25 billion shares to existing investors at a nominal value of 100 fils and a premium of 200 fils, to raise an amount equal to the losses. Any shares not purchased by current investors were to be bought up by the emirate’s $250 billion wealth fund.

    John Thain's Office Furniture—on Craigslist?

    You knew it would happen.
Someone has posted Thain's $1.22 million in opulent office furniture on Craigslist!
Here's your chance to buy a piece of infamy. Ok, not really...I guess.
"It has come to our attention that there is a great deal of value in the furniture that is no longer needed from the office of a former CEO," the ad states. "We have decided to put it up for sale."
    The items include:

    * "Antique area rug, has some spots that are worn down from pacing but easily covered with other furniture $87 K"
    * "Sofa, has been slept in a few times but is very comfortable $15 K"
    * "Velvet curtains, very similar to the curtains from Gone With the Wind $28 K"
    * "George IV Desk, rarely used $18 K"
    * "Chandelier, still sparkles despite the current economic environment $37 K"
    * "Mirror with silver frame, has a few kiss marks we are trying to get off $5 K"
    * "Mahogany pedestal table, might have been stood upon but still in great shape $25 K"
    * "Off-white parchment waste can, perfect for shredded documents $1,400

No, the republicans will not change. Do they realize the deadly game they are playing with our countries future at stake? Do think they have put their party and its hypocracy ahead of our survival which shows you how sick they are.
But, this time the American people are watching closely and are aware of their politics as usual. We voted for change and that is what we demand. They are self destructing.

Concerning our money being poured in to "save" financial institutions.
In NYT's piece this paragraph stood out for me as..ah reasonable.

"Under the terms of the deal, the Dutch state will acquire the securities at a 10 percent discount to their par value. The government will receive 80 percent of the cash flows of the total portfolio. ING remains the owner of the securities and would still be on the hook for 20 percent of any losses."

    Whole article here

Well the Palin babygate will not go away. On the contrary it just keeps building steam. This story needs to be run to ground. Take a look at this stuff and see what you think:
