Nothing new in these figures as they were known in inner finacial circles for nearly a year. Though as usual, our government always trys to keep negative information from the public for fear of furthering a self fullfiling prohecy. The problem has always been that rather than being honest and upfront with the American people, both government and the MSM control the flow of information, while we on main street know just how bad to worse things are getting becasue our personal budgets are being squeezed beyond belief.
We've been in a recession since the last quarter of 07 and unemployment will continue to increase over the next year. No matter how one may look at the situation, the financial mess we are experiencing will not go away until the fundemental problem we have with regard to sound money is addressed and that starts with not in giving the Federal Reserve any mor power over their own banks, but abolish the Fed and return to what the Constitution called for. As US Treasury. All banks with an F.D.I.C.charter should be pulled and replaced with Federal Treasury charters with money backed by a basket of precious metals. Only then will any trust in our monetary system return. Otherwise, we're looking at a coming depression in 2009-10 with no end in sight for lower oil prices due to demand in emerging market countries.

Well, you just can't keep a bad man down. After killing the No. 2 man in Al Qaeda on numerous occasions, he once again rears his ugly head. This time he tells us:

    "We don't kill innocents"

Yeah, right. Like there's not already mountains of evidence to the contrary. I guess we're just going to have to kill him. Again. For the record, the No. 2 guy in Al Qaeda was:

    Killed in November of 2001

    Killed in September of 2005

    Killed in January of 2006

    Arrested in September of 2006

    Killed in January of 2007

    Killed in October of 2007

You'd think after all the times we've killed him already, he's get a clue. He's dead. He's been dead many times now. Please Carol Ann, go into the light.

slightly off-topic, but this great post by digby shows what McCain's Biography Tour is attempting to create in people's minds...he is a great warrior from a long line of great warrirors...he knows war not economy...he is a man of honor, therefore, he is a leader...therefore, vote for him. how Rovian.

we need to re-frame this: honorable warrior/leaders do not condone torture.

The GOP is very clear: Welfare is ONLY for the already wealthy! If you are a CEO of a huge investment firm and have intentionally engineered the total destruction of your company, then you are entitled to billions of dollars in welfare! Your ruined company can now give you $60M in taxpayer's welfare checks as a reward for running the company into the ground.

This is how the Free Market works! When a company is mismanaged, then the American Taxpayer will bail you out with free welfare checks!

    Yay, Free Market Capitalism!!!

Even those doing well notice they are not doing as well as they were eight years ago. This economy sucks!

Kos diarist: No, I think we all know what "he can't win" is code for. You see, Hillary left off the "because" in her thinking.
Finish this sentance: He can't win because...

    Here we go...
(Chi Tribune) St. Francis Hospital in Blue Island, IL (suburb of Chicago) is closing. The hospital is the town's largest employer and is to loose 1400 jobs.
Attempts to GIVE THE HOSPITAL AWAY FOR FREE were futile. Half the hospital's patients are uninsured and/or on Medicaid.

So, in addition to "food deserts" (areas not served by grocery stores), let's create health care deserts. By the way, Blue Island is a "blue collar middle class" suburb.

I cry for our nation...how has it come to this?

You gotta stop saying that "Bear Stearns employees got bailed out". It is simply not true. I work for bear stearns, and it certainly does not feel like anybody here has been "bailed out". In fact, many people have seen their life savings evaporate before their very eyes and now will be out of a job in a month or so. I will be out of a job in a month or so. I do not feel "bailed out". Bailed out from what? The ONLY ones who truly benefit from the goverment intervention are JP Morgan shareholders who held stock before this mess ever happened.

The Republican Base are the very people most likely to be slammed in a recession the size of the coming one, and yet they continue to wave their Chinese made American flags. At some point being dumb ceases to be comical and becomes culpable.

keep buying foreign cars and other junk from overseas and sending billons of dollarss see how long you have a job.

So far Bush has done a superb job of preventing an economic crisis. Apparently he was paying attention in Biz school.
Of course he did a great job in phase 1 of the Iraq war too.

I think if either Clinton or McCain were in the whitehouse that we would be looking at a depression instead of a recession. Obama doesn't know much about economics either; but, at least he's openminded enough to seek advice.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    busboy-
i don't think sticking your fingers in your ears and going la la la counts as doing 'a superb job of preventing an economic crisis."

all he's done is deny the problems. that's piss-poor leadership.
