I know only 13% of the precincts have reported in NC, but Obama is beating her almost 2 to 1 there. Holy moly, I wish those figures would hold up through the evening.

  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Independants can vote in either primary here in NC. I think affiliated voters can switch too. One woman in front of me at my polling place was a registered R and got a Dem ballot.

    GOOOOOOOOO Obama...

    Hi all.. :)
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
One surprise I just noticed: South Bend IN went for Obama. All the pundits said it would go for Clinton since it is a big Catholic area, home of Notre Dame. (It's also a rather ghastly depressing city.)
  • Rustyzipper · 1 year ago
Obama is making it real close in Indy.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
RUSTY!!!!!! Break out the champagne my man! It's a great night for Obama!

Mrs. Greenspan said Obama did well in Research Triangle.

    Ah, new generation voters!

So great not to have to chase after the Reagan Dems, who are never coming back anyway.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Wake/Durham counties, where the research triagle park is located is showing huge for Obama.
    http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/resu...

You can check all county numbers at that link. Southcentral NC is suprising me with their numbers. I'm actually getting giddy over here! :)

i feel certain more R's crossed over to vote for Obama because they are sick of limpballs and trash politics as usual. even the R's want change and there's nothing changing in the GOP.

  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
I notice that the commentators now use the phrase "non-college educated white voters" instead of "racist whites who switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party in the 1960's when Johnson signed the Civil Rights Acts." It is no surprise that this demographic is not choosing to vote for a black candidate. I think the pundits do us a disservice by clumping all non-college-educated-white-voters together, though, since they are quite diverse. Even if they did fall for Hillary Mellon Scaife's gas tax cut ruse.

  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
I thought so Rusty. Wasn't sure what RTI was.

I'm hoping Shirley is right about Gary Indiana making the difference.

Shirley, yes I suspect Wilmington will be good to Obama as well. Right now I suspect Obama will win overall by a margin of about 17-18%. I hope so anyway.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
I notice that the votes still haven't come in yet for Asheville or Wilmington NC, and I'd think these could be Obama counties, too. Don't you think?

I can't wait to see what happens when Gary IN votes come in!!! 8% of Indiana lives in that county.
  • Bobby_Sambang · 1 year ago
Indiana is starting to look like Missouri. All the rural counties coming in early, with HRC taking those. And then the cities start coming in, and he rocks ahead while HRC stalls. This is looking like a 6 point lead for her about to drop down to a 4 point spread.

Consider this: a 4 point win in INdiana and a crushing loss in N.C. would be a disaster for HRC, and her money-line.
  • Poptart123 · 1 year ago
Where did all those white people behind Obama in North Carolina come from? With 92% of the black vote going for Obama, one would think he'd have 2 or 3 blacks as a backdrop.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Down here Obama is doing well with ALL races poptart!
It's an asswhopping. Only the rural whites are going strong for hillary.

I can't wait to see what happens when Gary IN votes come in!!! 8% of Indiana lives in that county.

    -----------

This is what happening to Gary:

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court upheld Indiana’s voter-identification law on Monday, declaring that a requirement to produce photo identification is not unconstitutional and that the state has a “valid interest” in improving election procedures as well as deterring fraud.

  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
I must admit, as one whose family comes from North Carolina and who has watched that state change over the past 5 decades, I get a little teary-eyed seeing all those good people cheering for Obama as he speaks in Raleigh tonight. I think they positioned all white people behind him on purpose, to show that white Southerners will vote for him. And - well, I have no problem with that, because it's a message that needs to be sent. All of my white family members in North Carolina are enthusiastic Obama supporters, and it makes me very optimistic for humanity that this has come to be. It gives me hope. God bless Obama for making this happen. He is a giant of a good man.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Shirley? Does your family here live in Ashville?

Raliegh is a pretty progresive city. Racially mixed but more white than many would suspect. If this speech is at the RBC center, the area around there is big Obama territory.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    If Hillary does win.

About 12 Indiana nuns were turned away Tuesday from a polling place by a fellow bride of Christ because they didn't have state or federal identification bearing a photograph.

Sister Julie McGuire said she was forced to turn away her fellow sisters at Saint Mary's Convent in South Bend, across the street from the University of Notre Dame, because they had been told earlier that they would need such an ID to vote.

The nuns, all in their 80s or 90s, didn't get one but came to the precinct anyway.

"One came down this morning, and she was 98, and she said, 'I don't want to go do that,'" Sister McGuire said. Some showed up with outdated passports. None of them drives.

They weren't given provisional ballots because it would be impossible to get them to a motor vehicle branch and back in the 10-day time frame allotted by the law, Sister McGuire said. "You have to remember that some of these ladies don't walk well. They're in wheelchairs or on walkers or electric carts."
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Search your soul;..... why do you give a shit? They didn't have ID. They could have been anybody. Ever see comedians dress up in nun drag?.....

LunaStick, I have family across North Carolina, including Asheville. In fact, my dearest cousin is running for office in Asheville now, but I probably shouldn't say his name! I don't want to become his "Jeremiah Wright"!
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Shirley I live in what looks like a blank spot on the NC map :)
No numbers from my county yet which I am staying up for. It is great to see how our state is evolving after so many years of the Helms machine. I hope Obama realises he has a good chance here in November and spends some time campaigning here.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
Obama: I love America too much! That's awesome. Let's see them try to spin that. Obama's speech in North Carolina is so inspirational and provides the hope and change this country desperately needs at this critical time.

Obama is the future...today! Obama '08

Thanks to the "imperfect" candidate for reminding us that the great impulse behind the Obama campaign is a deep, abiding love of America, of the decency that this president has betrayed and the promise that is always just ahead. Wow was he on fire tonight. He will not have his patriotism impugned by the McCarthyites of the far right. Nor should he. He regained that patriotic message tonight. And I'm not in any way ashamed to say it moved me to my core.

Know hope. And thank you, North Carolina and Indiana.

    It's all but over now.

I'm a loyal Obama supporter, but I was bracing for a double-digit loss in Indiana and a close race in North Carolina. If this happened, it would have forced this thing to go on and on and on....

BUT now, this is much different. IF Hillary wins Indiana, she's only going to squeak it out and that combined with a blow out in North Carolina means that the game has changed.

It may now be over in the mind of superdelegates tonight/tomorrow. The fact that she will lose such significant ground in delegates and popular vote, it is going to be hard to convince superdelegates to not end this thing when there is no logical end game for Clinton to win this thing.

Tonight I had the pleasure of seeing Douglas Brinkley speak at SMU. An historian and author of notable repute, he came on stage and gave us an early evening update on the IN and NC contests. He said that Obama was early ahead by about 20 points. Happy scattered applause, and many delighted gasps from the full auditorium. He then said that Hillary seemed ahead by 4 points in IN. Silence. Nothing. Then, one person clapped. One. One person who supports the Panderer and her husband, the Philanderer. Hillary, please go home.
