AMERICAblog: More on the Ted Stevens indictment

  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
A big shout out (and smooches!) to the non-partisan Feds who patiently worked their way up from the bottom to indict Senator Series of Tubes!

Justice Department indites Sen. Ted Stevens

When is the Bush Administration going to rein in these rouge agents?*

*I have been faulted by some around here for not issuing 'snark caveats' this might be snark or it my be my inner pessimism seeping to the surface.

A "rouge agent"? I think we used to call one of those the Avon Lady.

Why, I am shocked, SHOCKED that there are shenanigans going on at the Bridge to Nowhere Bar!

"Do we have to scratch his name off the list now, too?" - McCain VP Search Committee.

From TedStevens.org,: One of his latest press releases:
ALASKA CHAPTER OF ASSOCIATED BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS ENDORSE SEN. STEVENS

No doubt! "He always has some work for us to do around his house."

The book is open---taking bets that Stevens won't resign his committee positions, and, indeed may need to be dragged kicking and screaming from the chambers when the time comes to face teh music..

Inouye (D-HI) is ready to let him keep his spots---how's that for opposition?

I was amused no end by Markos's thought that there may be nobody clean left in the AK GOP to run against Begich---heheh

Yeah, this is a good feelgood not to mention a timely and conveeeenient distraction. "Look! We are serious about crime,” sez the Justice Department’s Office of Public Integrity. The only question is who pays his fine, VECO after repayment of their own fines (by, say, the RNC) or the RNC directly?
Because you can bank on Stevens not serving even one day in prison.

I hope the ad on this page has more to do with the topic of Sen. Ted Stevens than it has to do with me...but in his case he's going to need a pardon from west of the border.

A year in between the raid on his house and the indictment?

Man, I am surprised he didn't have a heart attack!!
  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
how does the us justice dept allow this to happen? I'm guessing the main driver for this was out of riech-wing control.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
This is the guy who wanted that bridge to nowhere, right? I wonder how much he was going to benefit from that deal. This man has shown arrogance on the senate floor. Shame on Stevens and his family.

Every time a politician gets indicted or gets caught cheating the first thing they scream is, "Its politics!" Why WOULDN'T it be politics? Of course, finding out a politician is a lawbreaker is POLITICS. Most everything in life has an element of politics. Politicians shouldn't be able to claim politics whenever they get caught making illegal activities.
  • therepguy · 1 year ago
Just in time for the election and a good reminder of just the kind of crap that we've all been living through these past 8 years!

Why anyone who's not a right-wing, republican or one of their christian fascist enablers would vote for the fascist party that got us in this mess is down right nuts!
  • justadood · 1 year ago
I'm officially boggled-- Stevens resigned his Committee positions.

Who'da thunk? A 'Con who understands the rules apply to him! (at least in the Senate...at home, guess that's a different story)

As if they are not ALL just like him..........the rest have just been more careful.

Rachel Maddow was awesome today talking about this on her show with the "truck" and "series of tubes" clips

Someone needs to do a documentary or in depth news special on Alaskan politics of these last few years. You couldn't write the stuff that has gone on up here. This is really just the first thing that has gotten wide national attention. That said any campaign up here that plans to win needs to make sure they don't dance on Stevens' grave so to speak. He's been the most influential person in the state since statehood and he's beloved by folks. Right now he's viewed as a tragic figure. People literally in mourning about this. We'll only win with some republicans voting for us so don't expect Begich to attack Stevens in stump speeches about ethics.
