AMERICAblog: MSNBC was having far too much with Palin's turkey fiasco

  • Indigo · 1 year ago
If she keeps that up, she'll be gone before the New Year and then we won't have Sarah Palin to kick around any more. I have mixed feelings about that.
  • gimbler · 1 year ago
I couldn't stop laughing while watching the video. It was like a scene from a Christopher Guest movie. And once again - if SNL wants to spoof Palin the writers can take the night off.
  • Milli · 1 year ago
What a campaign commercial that would make for 2012.
  • Zionista · 1 year ago
Gee, the news business sure is lost for things to do when there isn't an election to trivialize.
  • Rab · 1 year ago
She is truly an incredible dipshit.
  • bumpkis · 1 year ago
I kept waiting for the turkey killer to pick his nose, or lift his leg and fart...SNL can use this clip as is.....no further editing required.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Bubba was enjoying every minute of his fifteen minutes of fame, and HE DID REALIZE how stupid she looked giving her interview while he decapitated the turkeys! I could see the smirk on his face.
  • GWMustGo · 1 year ago
As entertaining as that was, MSNBC needs to cut back on it. That's a stunt Faux News would pull.

Using that last one ("Gov. Palin not realizing incongruity of her words versus her backdrop") would have been appropriate and accurate.

Well, maybe not accurate - didn't the talking head mention that when she was asked if she wanted that as the backdrop, she shrugged it off?
  • Eclectablog · 1 year ago
That's correct. He asked her if she was okay with it and she responded, "No worries".

Clueless doesn't even begin to describe her. And I don't give a damn what all you carnivores say, the vast majority of meat-eaters in this country do NOT want to know the details about the violence of meat processing that precedes their nice shrink-wrapped meat-on-a-styrofoam-tray grocery purchase.

    Lalalalalala... I can't HEEEEEAR you...
  • FloridaMom · 1 year ago
Classic!!! Can you imagine being in the room when the people are writing the on screen headlines! They must have been dying. It is like a brainstorming session where everything gets put up!
Anyway, love her Burberry scarf! lol - she must have bought it on sale at her fav 'consignment' store!
  • PeerOne · 1 year ago
I noticed that scarf right away too and thought the same thing...'oh, it's just a little sumthin' Bristol found for me last mother's day at our designer consignment boutique, ya know"
  • Kelly2 · 1 year ago
The $300 dollar scarf definitely needs more attention as well. But I guess it is just another thing a typical hockey mom wears to the local turkey farm or local butcher.
  • SCLiberal · 1 year ago
"Can you imagine being in the room when the people are writing the on screen headlines! "
wow, hadn't thought of that but it makes me laugh just to think about it now!
  • MattNYC · 1 year ago
I couldn't watch but I couldn't STOP myself from watching. Even with the worst blurred out, the context made me cringe. The blood soaked trough was bad enough in itself. And watching the slaughter guy watching Palin over his shoulder was the icing on the cake.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
The guy doing the killing kept looking at them, like he wanted to ask them if they really stand right there.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Palin says Thanksgiving is a family affair, everyone brings something, mother sister, etc. and she "takes care" of the turkey. Didn't say she actually cooked the turkey, probably gets it from the local grocery deli, but--if she does, she might drop a frozen turkey in the deep fryer this year, considering her microwave cooking "skills" she exhibited earlier this month. Fried turkey, the redneck delicacy...or, as she would say, Rouge Cou Turkey (sounds classier).

Does anyone really think she can read directions of any kind after that clip?
  • F. Kafka · 1 year ago
When was Shuster "rehabilitated" enough to be back on Countdown. Seriously, did I miss something.
  • BooksAlive · 1 year ago
It didn't take too long - he was off-air for a matter of months, and now he subs for Tweety and KO fairly often.
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
What happened to him? was he on the sauce?
  • joedavex · 1 year ago
Since this was the #1 story in the countdown the slot is usually reserved for the funny and entertaining. The headlines and "Breaking News" were the best self-mockery that MSNBC has done. They were completely tongue-in-cheek and even having watched it and laughed last night I hadn't caught the subtlety of all the "headlines" during the broadcast. I guess I was too busy watching the slaughter.
  • nctodc · 1 year ago
Celtic Diva, the Alaskan state blog credentialed by the DNC, was at the Turkey Farm while Gov. Palin was there and got some exclusive behind-the-scenes pictures. Pictures may be NWS:

When i first glanced at this video, I thought the slaughter guy was taking a piss, then I really looked to see what he was doing....

palin = just another goof who was taken for a ride - and of course as was reported, she just shrugged this off...

they're in heaven now. with the moose.
  • PeerOne · 1 year ago
Thanks for capturing the screen shots with multiple hilarious, practically one-liners from MSNBC.

I think I'll have tofu turkey for Thanksgiving this year after watching the clips.

Ugh. I'm sure she just chalked up the irony of it all with a "That's just what we do up here in Alaaaaaska!".
  • hit_escape · 1 year ago
My wife saw the clip live and it made her cry. I think we'll be having tofu turkey as well.

Sarah Palin = The gift that keeps on giving
  • ram · 1 year ago
    She is what she is.
Not like the other fake politicians.
A real person not from the elite crowd.
She don't give a damn about what other people think about her.
  • tigergrrldc · 1 year ago
Clearly, she did this on purpose. If the turkey killing hadn't been going on in the background, we never would have heard about this. Who cares if Bible Spice pardons a turkey? And I swear the guy in the background is a product of two first cousins or even a father and daughter.
  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
    Bible Spice. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
  • bluestockton · 1 year ago
So Sarah didn't know what was going on? Shucks, the turkeys themselves didn't seem to know. You'd think they'd start squawking after being jammed headfirst into a funnel, but they didn't even peep. I guess domestic turkeys ARE as dumb as breeders say they are. Sure do taste good, though.
  • JES · 1 year ago
I don't get it. Turkeys get slaughtered so we can eat them. What did you think, they just die on their own?
  • Nylund · 1 year ago
The "denial of death" aspect of this comment reminds me how how the gov't has banned anyone from photographing or filming the caskets or funerals of fallen American soldiers. Its almost as if the GOP is trying to make people forget that people actually die in pursuit of their folly in Iraq.

So, in response, I say, "I don't get it, why doesn't Bush give his press conferences in front of dead and maimed American soldiers? What, you think no one dies in war?"
  • HS · 1 year ago
I agree with JES, what's the big deal? But maybe since I grew up on a farm it just doesn't phase me. Anyone who thinks this is is somehow a negative image for Palin has a deep misunderstanding of rural American culture. never And comparing turkeys and humans is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?
  • warbler · 1 year ago
It's very interesting to hear that you grew up on a farm. I'm sure most people here did not know that. I think we might have misunderstood that you were phased by this when you actually were not. On this site we do often compare turkeys and humans and we are wrong to do this. You are generous to point that out so we can avoid doing that in the future since it is rather a stretch.
    Yes, I think so.
  • Nylund · 1 year ago
Just because people are going to eventually shit out their Thanksgiving meal doesn't mean I want to see it in the background of a Palin news conference.

Plus, you are missing the irony of the fact that this was a political stunt to show her mercy by NOT killing a turkey.
  • warbler · 1 year ago
You mean they don't die of old age before we eat them? Why, that's very disturbing. Thank you for pointing that out. Your comment was very well written and the rhetorical question format was very effective. We, on this site, are beholden to you for educating us about something that we might not have known and probably would not have thought of on our own. Thank you so much, Jes.

I'm really just amazed they used a high-falutin elitist word like "incongruity" in one of their headlines.

It would never occur to Sarah Palin that the camera might pick up anything beyong Her Benificent Presence. She's entirely self-centered and completely oblivious to other people.
  • daho · 1 year ago
google Borderlne Personality Disorder. She's a case study... beginning with her start in beauty pagents and tv news.
  • Bored · 1 year ago
Maybe Sarah Palin should stay away from cameras for a little while

Loving David Schuster, at long last! Did you hear his French commentary (on "things I thought you should know)? His "a la Francais" segment out-did David Gregory's, I do declare!
  • Kelly2 · 1 year ago
Also the funny part of her squirming at the thought of holding a dirty turkey. Day after day we heard about how tough she was since she could field dress a moose. Like that has to be sooo much more clean pleasant than holding a turkey.
  • curlytoes79 · 1 year ago
I wish I could have written a few of those:

Heartless wench flaps gums while turkeys scream for mercy
Failed VP candidate a little too comfortable with turkey holocaust in background
Inbred butt-picking farmer an oddly appropriate backdrop for Palin Q&A
Palin interview eerily resembles scene from "Blood Diner"
  • EmGD · 1 year ago
Some people just love their jobs. And sometimes those people get to write captions for Sarah Palin giving an interview in front of a turkey slaughter. When they mesh together it's beautiful.

    Typical GOPper, that's for sure.
She sounds and acts a lot like Bush.
  • davidkc · 1 year ago
Countdown spent WAY too much time on this. We all know already that Palin is a blithering idiot, so we keep on covering her? She's irrelevant already. I had to turn off the teevee in the middle of this bit. I'm sick of looking at Palin, and sick of hearing from Palin.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
It would be nice if we could forget this Alaskan Abomination. But she won't let us. She's a "me-ist" and put that painted mug in front of anything with a lens. Welcome to the political version of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.
  • gbear · 1 year ago
LOL. Thanks for posting stills of those captions. I'm one of the people that Shuster was warning to leave the room. I've got a weak stomach for stuff like that.

    Karma's a bitch, Sarah.

Maybe a message from some higher power, is something I will be very thankful for this thanksgiving that this Turkey, The Witch Finder from Wasilla neither became VP nor senator. The old man & the imbecile got thumped.

    Come on...What do you expect???
A network with zero reporters and bumper crops of listless talking heads, vapid ex-Sears catalog models and mirror-finish oval tables has to fill airtime spaces between CreditReport.com commercials...
  • zavlin · 1 year ago
Lucky for Palin the turkey thing distracts from her completely idiotic statements about the price of oil.
  • NMRon · 1 year ago
No, I don't support cruelty to animals. Yes, I eat meat and am not too terribly grossed out . . . but I have NOT laughed this hard since the WKRP, Cincinnati episode with a similar theme. ROFLMAO
  • Bob · 1 year ago
At least those turkeys won't have to listen to her screeching voice any more.
  • Larry · 1 year ago
This interview was very disturbing. I literally had nightmares last night about animals being burned alive and suffering other horrible deaths. I can now honestly say that evil surrounds this ghastly woman.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Well, being a farm boy, it didn't reallly bother me but it DID bother me very much she didn't have the sense to conduct her interview away from the slaughtering of the turkeys. It was like she was trying to prove some kind of stupid point by doing her interview in front of them beheading the turkeys. It was just plain stupid.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
She's on a PR tour -- keeping her face in the public mind until 2012 and will do whatever she has to. But I do believe this shows why she went to six different colleges and lost popularity over the last 3 months. She has no Hubble Telescope to see outside her dust-mote universe.
  • larry · 1 year ago
The woman is a gift that keeps on giving! I hope the media opens major offices in Alaska to keep us all well informed about Sarah and her life in the 49th State. Love it. Hopefully the National Inquirer has her husbands biz partner staked out..ha ha ....Romney and Huckabee have to be getting major wood over SAAARAAAHHH. You betcha.

  • frau sally benz · 1 year ago
This has to be just the absolute funniest thing I've ever seen!!! I couldn't stop laughing. You should have a "NSFW due to intense laughter" warning on this!
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
It was reported yesterday Palin was asked if she minded the backdrop and she reportedly said, "No worries." She didn't have the political instincts to realize how bad it would look. It just proves what we were saying about her all along. She is a newsreader without enough political instincts to ever make good policy decisions. How dare McCain try to shove her down American's throats! She was almost one heart beat away from driving our nation further in the Republican ditch!

This press conference IS funny, but its also scary when you realize just how close America came to having that nitwit as President of the United States. VERY SCARY, indeed.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
Well, you know, we do have "Bush's policies" to thank for her loss in the election. I'm just making lemonade here. ;-)
  • JamesR · 1 year ago
I just heard David Schuster call her denial that she knew what was going on behind her "Wattlegate." Oh God. I. Can't. Stop. Laughing. It is so wrong. I can't wait for someone to track down footage of her butchering a caribou at Christmas or maybe eating some rabbit stew or something at Easter. She is the gift of laughter that keeps on giving. (Depending on your sense of humor I suppose...)

Now that she's not threatening our federal government and the World with her clueless leadership presence, and not being an Alaska resident, I can simply find this and her the funniest thing EVER. She's just immensely funny now, not threatening. It's such a relief!
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
Unfortunately, "red" is an eyecatcher and your eyes can't help but focus on the carnage behind her as that nasal whine of hers does a voice over. This is classic GOP -- put a "pretty" face on carnage (Lipstick on a pig, if you will). Red used to be a passionate, romantic color. Thanks to Republicans, we're given Red States, Reagan Red, and blood red. Blue is soooo much more soothing and intelligent. Christmas and Valentine colors are beginning to turn my stomach.

Ya know, if MSNBC thought it was so awful, for goodness sake, why the h*ll do they keep showing it over and over??????? That doesn't make them any better than Palin! It's disgusting, and now I hardly want to eat turkey Thursday!
