AMERICAblog: Mt. Vernon, WA city council distances itself from mayor’s ‘Glenn Beck Day.’

On DKos it's described as: The mayor gave the key to the city to Beck, and the city council changed the locks. I love it.

In a smack down, just north of Mt. Vernon in the city of Bellingham Mayor Pike offers the key to the city to Jon Stewart...

"The mayor of Mount Vernon is free to do whatever he wants, but I think Glenn Beck is out of touch with, what I think, certainly most of the constituents I talk to believe," Pike said. "I actually think Jon Stewart does a lot better reporting."

The poem , "The Conservative Mind," a comment at that article is terrific. I'm disseminating it to everyone I know. Hint.

Who would want to be associated with someone who said this?

" Hang on, let me just tell you what I'm thinking. I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong? I stopped wearing my What Would Jesus -- band -- Do, and I've lost all sense of right and wrong now. I used to be able to say, "Yeah, I'd kill Michael Moore," and then I'd see the little band: What Would Jesus Do? And then I'd realize, "Oh, you wouldn't kill Michael Moore. Or at least you wouldn't choke him to death." And you know, well, I'm not sure."

From the May 17, 2005 broadcast of The Glenn Beck Program

I know Beck has said some idiotic things, but did he really say THIS?!

Wow. He's more retarded and demented than I originally thought!

Yes he did. Media Matters reported it at the time.

Mike Malloy recently played the audio on his radio show.

Hearing Beck's voice in the audio is more chilling than just reading the words.

Dale is a stand up guy and has really listened to his district. He said it like it really is here in my city. Mount Vernon. The overwhelming majority of this town is upset at Bud for honoring a divisive former resident like Glenn Beck. We have many residents that have enhanced the community after becoming successful. Case in point, Cheryl Bentyne, member of the Grammy Award winning Manhattan Transfer; Jim Caviezel, actor of note, Mark Hendrickson, baseball player. BUT no, Bud likes Glenn Beck.

Watching this story evolve has been interesting. At first, Bud said it was a private affair at McIntyre Hall. No costs incurred by the city. Well, the city insurance policy is being used for coverage, and the police will be on hand for the protest. So, this week Bud said that it clearly was a city event. Oh, and Bud said the Beck is indeed an entertainer. Tomorrow is going to be interesting here in Mount Vernon.
