AMERICAblog: Nestle recalls Toll House cookie dough

  • scottinsf · 5 months ago
So glad to see Americabloggers posting recipes for cookie dough. It's so much more cost effective and tastier than the premixed stuff. So simple to make too.

Cream 1 cup butter, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1 tsp vanilla extract.

    Add 2 eggs.

Mix in 2-1/4 cups all purpose flour, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1 tsp salt

Add 1 package of chocolate morsels and 1 cup chopped nuts (preferably pecans)

Drop by the tablespoons onto a baking sheet and bake in a 375 degree oven for 9 to 11 minutes until golden brown

NEVER EAT RAW EGGS, NEVER EAT RAW COOKIE DOUGH.

Replace 1/2 c of the butter with 3/4 c natural peanut better. Less fat and very yummy.

I bake ChCh cookies in a 9x13" cake pan for about 25 min. Faster and easier.

Minor correction: It is E Coli not salmonella.

OK, that's it! I can't take it anymore. The administration turning on the LGBT community, Dems are watering down healthcare reform, Iran is on the verge of a civil war, North Korea is trying to shoot missiles at Hawaii and now they are taking away our cookie dough?!?! What the Frak?

I have to have something to comfort me as I watch the world burn.

The FDA was made "toothless" by the Bush Administration and these unfortunately, are the results.

    let's see...

raw cookie dough has raw eggs which sometimes carry E. coli (not Salmonella, btw, in this case). Why is this creepy?

Also, you do realize that there is no proof yet that the dough actually had E. coli, right? The only link between the two in this case was that the sick people reported having eaten the raw cookie dough in the recent past. If you're eating raw cookie dough, who knows what else you're eating that could have gotten you sick.

raw cookie dough is a stepping stone to harder substances, like droppings.

I scold my daughter to not eat cookie dough because of slamonella in raw eggs. But E-Coli ? How in the world do poop germs (E-Coli) get in cookie dough?!
  • whomod · 5 months ago
I'd guess it shows up when you pay workers 6 dollars an hour to slave away making cookie dough while the CEO rakes in untold billions and even the plant manager gets a little something something in the way of a bonus if productivity is increased.

If that indeed is the case, hell, if I worked there, i'd put shit in your dough too.

    Correction: salmonella.

I'm no longer surprised by any story I hear involving Nestle. 25 years ago, my aunt battled against Nestle's influence over plantation laborers in Ecuador. In 2005, Nestle sold contaminated Baby Formula and in 2006 stood accused of buying cocoa produced using West African slave labor.

What's next? A campaign to sell their E. coli cookie dough as a weigh-loss product?

We could pay for public health care if we taxed all these companies who produce corn syrup based food like substances. And tax the hell out of the lucrative soda industry, I am talking about you Coke and Pepsi.

Bad food causes our major health care problems right now, diabetes and heart disease. Tax these foods to pay for the damage they do, just like tobacco.

I despise HFCS. I don't even think any consumers want it. Why is it legal. I go out of my way to a mexican restaurant to buy soda made in Mexico with sugar. I wish we had an FDA concerned with fucking food.

Although eating raw cookie dough that you've made might pose a certain risk (because of the raw eggs) processed cookie dough that you buy in the refrigerator case at the grocery store SHOULD be perfectly safe to eat -- it's pasteurized. Just like you don't generally scold people for drinking milk, there's no reason to scold anyone for eating packaged cookie dough raw. It's not the same as dough you make at home.

Back in the 70s I used to product test for Nestle. They would send me sample A and sample B to see which was preferred by my family and my pets and I would complete a survey. For each survey completed, Nestle would donate one dollar to my church

Wonder about the added things in ice cream, like raw chocolate chip cookie dough flavor.
