AMERICAblog: New Bush admin. scandal: Top aide quits over misuse of US AID money

  • KerrynowCampau · 1 year ago
He quit before he got his Medal of Freedom!
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
The matter has been turned over to the Justice Department? Great, we know how far that will go----like nowhere. Another fiasco for the Bush White House that the Justice Department will cover up.
  • theWalrus · 1 year ago
Now he will qualify for a Medal of Freedom Award.

Seems like Mr Felipe Sixto didn't get his fair share of the embezzled funds. ;-)

I've often thought of USAID as a place for politicians to put their drug-addict sons to get them out of the country and keep them out of the media spotlight. This doesn't really surprise me.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Oh how I hope it was $4,300.00 worth of improprieties with a young lady who took the train to DC from New York City.
  • Mrs. Peel · 1 year ago
It is simply amazing that the people who are just wrong, wrong, wrong about everything keep on talking as if they have any credibility.
  • bernarda · 1 year ago
USAID is a sleazy agency used by the government to support various rightwing and even fascist groups around the world, especially in Latin America. The main aid it is destined to provide is to get compliant puppet governments in whatever country. One example.

    http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/analysis/1350

It often works in conjunction with far right organizations like the fabulously misnamed National Endowment for Democracy, the National Democratic Institute, and the International Republican Institute. There are probably others of the same ilk.

There's enough criminality within the BushCo White House it would keep an honest Attorney General busy for a generation.

Fortunately, this news about another Bush crony with his hands in the cookie jar came out on Friday. It won't get the attention it deserves. Thank gawd for Friday news dumps. /snark

Off topic: I've read several discussions about the point system used to rate comments on this site. I've seen several comments that I like and before I go about awarding points I need to know for sure: if I like the comment should I give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down? I'm being serious. Can anyone explain this? It seems a thumbs up would be a good thing.

In his new ad, Panama John opines he is the president "Americans have been waiting for." Says who?

Is the Center for a FreeCuba the old 2506 Brigade? The exile community has held a grudge for many years over what they saw as JFK's doublecross, and it's not a far stretch to imagine they might have had something to do with his assassination. It will be interesting to find out what Sixto was using AID money for...guns, boats, what?

Third world politics reign in Miami. For an insightful glimpse into the connection between the Cuban exile community, you should read Joan Didion's "Miami"--20 yrs old but still relevant.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
That should have been "between Washington and the Cuban exile community"

Has any one heard where Edwards Stands on endorsing a candidate?

The Chicago Sun Times says he might.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    Firebrand,

Edwards is wealthy because he's a shrewd lawyer. He's probably holding out for the promise of the US AG cabinet post, which would be ideal position for him to take out the corporate rubbish Bush accumulated over the past (almost) eight years.

So you wanna play with fire and get burned to a crisp? Well, I just spoke with PM Brown and Her Majesty and as soon as you fire a shot, the Northern Ireland Assembly will be dissolved immediately and the remnants of your Republic will be crushed. How's that for your Celtic pride? Your harp is no match for British archers. Even the leprechauns can't help you now.
  • firebrand · 1 year ago
    Nigel

You spoke with Crazy Queen Liz.. Condolences dude!

    ( I thought you were welsh) :-)
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    Firebrand,

Proud Taffy here. And as you know, the PoW's mum is the Queen. Nothing I can do about that ancient history. England absorbed Wales under her crown centuries before they got around to conquering the "Tadhgs" and the Scots. LOL

No wonder we get along so well.....despite the kidding. My family is Irish and Scots. Some Cornish in the lineage as well.

Unless John Edwards has torn up his Democratic Leadership Council membership card I seriously doubt he'll be holding any corporate criminals responsible as Attorney General.

But how many of them are "mischievous" DittoHeadz?
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Felipe Sixto is referenced in this rant against "socialized" healthcare. He traveled to Cuba in 2001 to research health care in Cuba. Why would a packaging company (run by Sixto and his 2 brothers) executive do that?

Pelosi can never and should never be forgiven for not making impeachment of this lying, murderous, ruinous administration her TOP priority.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    mirth,

you're so right about Pelosi, and to think I voted for her. Well, at least she's standing up to Bush/Cheney-lite, aka Hillary Clinton. :-)
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Nigel,

Nothing from Pelosi can be believed. She'll try to salvage her reputation with rational soundbites here and there that she knows we want to hear, but push comes to shove:

    OT:

Charges dropped against Marine in Haditha case

"...Tatum had been accused of shooting dead two unarmed children as Marines cleared houses near the scene of a deadly roadside bombing in Haditha, 260 kilometers west of Baghdad, on November 19, 2005.

The deaths were part of a grim civilian toll from the Marines' actions in Haditha. Four soldiers were initially charged with murder and four officers accused of staging a cover-up.

However, since charges against the soldiers were first announced in late 2006, prosecutors have struggled to make the allegations stick.

Four of the eight have had charges against them dropped, while charges of murder were replaced by the lesser offence of manslaughter in the cases of Tatum and his squad leader Sergeant Frank Wuterich."
