AMERICAblog: Newsweek poll: Obama leads McCain by 15

I am glad that fisa is such a narrowly mentioned issue. Go Obama. MCCAIN must not be elected!

The main thing that has changed since that time is that Americans have begun to see inside the character of both candidates. McCain, while not really too old to be president where he inspirational like other "elder statesmen" before him and somewhat young at heart, reveals a somewhat fossilized mind set and a crusty boundary drawn between good and evil, them and us. What we have failed to understand in the past is that this value is a reflection of what we see within ourselves. Obama reveals an openness and calm, an eloquence and vision that is impossible to fake. Also impossible to fake is the genuine affection and positive regard that he and Michelle have for each other. While it can certainly be argued that families should be off limits in the discussion, I don't totally agree when the spouses themselves share information that is very revealing of their underlying character. Michelle Obama reveals smarts, humor, an open-heartedness and compassion for others that is refreshing. Sadly, Cindy McCain reveals information about herself and her husband that speaks volumes about their fundamental character. Imagine going into a marriage having lied about your age to the person who is supposed to be your most intimate confidant. Both McCains did this with each other.

How is it possible that the media gives time to those who so thoroughly attack Michelle Obama, including Cindy (I always was proud of my country) McCain, but gives a total pass on the information in this video? This is stunning for all that it tells us about these two people.

Forgive me if this has been discussed at length recently, for I have had no time to read the blogs. I keep hearing it mentioned on MSNBC that Hill will campaign for Barack, and that part of the deal will be his helping her retire her debt. As busy as I was, I sent an email to the Obama campaign last week telling them how much this distressed me, but didn't get any response from them.

This is the first time that I have ever donated money to a campaign, as opposed to just volunteering, and it was a sacrifice to give what I did. And I did it, over and over. Is it only those of us who are working class and/or people of color who are still so deeply wounded by the lies and racism of the Clinton campaign?

i am not sure I am right, but I get the sense that on this blog there is now a "party line" forbidding discussion of the injuries the Clintons perpetrated. But as evidenced in Detroit recently, the people aren't forgetting what she did. I will feel betrayed if my money goes to her debt.

I don't care anymore. I'm leaving it all behind and walking the earth.

Newsweek is a very conservative publication so I don't know what to think of their poll.

mmedefarge, It is customary for the winner to help the loser in a situation like this. What he does is put her in touch with and talk to his big money donors and asks them to help her out. It does not come out of the donations to the campaign nor does it involve us. It is for those big time people who write 2000 dollar checks and don't blink.
    It's nothing to worry about.

Was it before or after Obama did his FISA COP OUT?
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
I hate to say it, but I think Obama's FISA cop out would appeal to the "centrists" just as much as it has us progressives in a funk.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Y'know, if I never hear the word progressives again, that would be fine with me. That's DLC-speak, a cave-in to the rightwing tactic of demonizing democrats. If we're going to try to reclaim our party, how about we also reclaim our identity as Liberals?

But you are right that Obama's FISA stance will appeal to centrists, aka DINOs.

What's in a word?! By changing the word, you change the energy and perception behind it....you know that:)
The pubs have made it a dirty word unfortunately.

That 55-36 identification difference tells the whole story. If McCain gets 80% of the Repubs and Repub leaners, Obama just needs 70% of the Dems and Dem leaners to tie. If McCain gets 90%, Obama still only needs 76%. Hard to oevercome that.

Great news! Obama is so great. An hour ago I called his local office and proudly informed them I was mailing a $100 check to his campaign, which I did promptly. I just called my bank to retroactvely to stop payment on my check. I sfeel much better about myself, I'll do it agian and again until Iquit feeling better about myself or until I file Chapter 7 for all the bank charges.

    Not bad.

Well we know that Obama won't win by 15 points nationally, but 15 points is huge, even if the numbers are HALF off, that's still an 8 point lead in a country that is very close in liberal to conservative bases.

This should be an easy election for Obama, all he has to do is keep pushing McCain as the new Bush ... I can't think of anyone who would lose to McCain as long as people see him as another 4 years of Bush.
