AMERICAblog: Norm Coleman mails "rape" comic book to Minnesota's children

  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
Well, what else are you going to do when you don't have a single real issue to campaign on.

These people are sick and disgusting.

They surely must have violated some law and should be prosecuted to the full extent.
  • judybrowni · 1 year ago
Okay, Franken and Coleman are both Jewish, and I KNOW you're not supposed to bring up Nazi correalations, BUT this reminds me of nothing so much as the "Dirty Jew" comic book propaganda routinely issued by the Third Reich.

    Ugh.

Years ago, my husband and I were apparently followed home from a catholic church in Georgia. About an hour after we got home, we fouhd a crudely drawn cartoon booklet taped to our door, full of fun stuff-they called the pope the anti-christ, and communion wafers "death cookies'. It was unbelievable. And to top it off, proudly stamped on the back was the name of the church it came from. So a belated FUCK YOU to Victory Baptist church in St, Marys Georgia, and the same to Norm Coleman.
  • PinkDog · 1 year ago
That never happened to us, but I'd like to join you in the FU to Victory Baptist Church in St. Mary's Georgia. I never lived there or heard of that church, but dang. What a bunch of douches.

Of course, Catholics aren't even Christians in their eyes so I shouldn't be surprised.
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
The irony of that is very funny to me, as someone who has studied theology, been in several religions through playing organ, and now working with Jewish kids. The Roman Church, the rock of St Peter, is far closer to Christ, historically, than any of these revival white trash American Protestant "under a tent" bible thumper ignorant fools. When they profess to be true Christians, it makes me laugh. If there is ever a Second Coming, which I doubt, these idiots will be shocked to find out that Jesus hates their guts. He might not like me too much because of my penis' activity, but I have a feeling I'll be okay in the final judgment compared with Billy Bob and Betty McTrash from the East Bumfuck Baptist Church of Christ. I didn't run around hating in his name. Oh sure I broke several Leviticus laws but I also did some good in the world, as well. Then again I have never stoned unruly children to death or beat up someone who wore two different fabrics. Oh shit I did eat some shrimp and lobster and I did lie with men as men lie with women.

It's fun seeing the fundy wingnuts' heads exploding this election cycle.
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
Jesus loves you BQID, but some of his followers sure don't! I have eaten the shrimp too, and once a month I am totally unclean, but I'm prepared to take my chances on judgement day. Secretly, I'm rooting for thre Rapture to expose some of the so-called faithful-I bet the entire congregation of VBC would be left behind.
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Thank you Gumbygirl! Sadly for me, Jesus is a total myth. We had a theology professor who actually proved that ZERO evidence actually exists that he even lived at all. Apparently there will be some exploding heads when all the Dead Sea Scrolls are finally published. Whole lotta stuff in there that will question the entire Christian idea. I prefer to worship Saint Priapus.

    Everyone sing:
I DONT CARE IF IT RAINS OR FREEZES
LONG AS I GOT MY PLASTIC JESUS
RIDIN ON THE DASHBOARD OF MY CAR
I'M AFRAID HE'LL HAVE TO GO
    HIS MAGNETS RUIN MY RADIO
AND IF I HAVE A CRASH HE'LL LEAVE A SCAR
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
I'm no longer a practicing Catholic either, but I like to hedge my bets! I'd love to believe that there's a benevolent deity who can offer us life after death, but it seems sillier and sillier to me the older I get! In the words of the prophet Jim Morrison:"No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn." I'm just going to live the best I can, try to be a good person, and find out what happens after death when I get there.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
theology professor who actually proved that ZERO evidence

Yeah right. Got his PhD from DC or Marvel Comics, maybe Mad Magazine. Come on! There is evidence both ways. Can't comment on the evidence that Jesus never walked the earth, but the evidence that he did is there just very open to question. Anyone with a PhD who claims to prove conclusively that there was no Jesus, has very flawed research and failed his logic classes, was never qualified by passing his qualifiers, not to mention his cums. I'm one of those who wishes she could believe, but very hard when only proof I have is that Satan's existance is proven by the supernatural evil of the Bush administartion ... as well as Pope Ratman. Most of my belief is wishful thinking, but it is not wishful thinking that there are some historical but weak evidence of the Christ such as tomb found a few years ago with the crept labeled John, the brother of Jesus. Other things like the pieces of the true cross, the sepulcher cloth, etc. have failed the test of science, carbon dating disproves them.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
My point is don't damn or curse all Christians for what the worst of them do. That is as bad as Bush butchering Muslims for what a few are ostensibly accused of doing on 9/11. If you ask me, the real terrorists are the Bush administration and that 9/11 almost certainly was false flag operation.

US is supposed to be land of separation of church and state but also freedom of religion. That is don't damn or discriminate against Muslims, Catholics, Jews, Buddhists, but also Christians for the crimes of the few among them who do practice evil in the name of their religion, even in the case of Catholics who have the misfortune of having the dedicated Statanist, Ratman, currently running that church.
  • Moderation · 1 year ago
Actually, sorry, but you are wrong. There is zero evidence contemporary with Jesus' life. The closest evidence comes 20 yrs or so after his death. Zero Roman records, zero writings during his lifetime, nada. Doesn't mean the man himself wasn't real, but the professor is correct, there is zero actual, would hold up in any meaningful way if applied to anyone else, evidence of his actual existence.
  • Poppinfresh · 1 year ago
Christianity: The belief that some cosmic Jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and drink his blood, and then telepathically tell him that he is your master, so that he can remove an evil force that is present in you because some rib woman was tricked by a talking snake into eating a piece of fruit from a magical tree. Makes perfect sense.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I want to join the FU to Victory Baptist Church in St. Mary's Georgia, as well. Also, do they realize they live in a town named after a SAINT? That should really spin them up since they are Baptists, shouldn't it? I mean, they should move rather than live in a town named after a SAINT! ???

    Idolators!

    That's their line, right?

That mailer embodies the two greatest hallmarks of the modern Republican party--irresponsibility and viciousness. I would think that particular bit of direct mail would backfire with a whole lot of Minnesota parents. I certainly hope my son, who is in the Republican direct mail business, didn't write it.
  • kdg · 1 year ago
it's typical political mailer trash, but I don't think Franken was drawn in an ethnic way to accentuate his Jewishness, and to be fair, it's not being "sent to children" it's being sent to registered voters. Anti-Republican posts don't need the hyperbole to be effective. let the trash speak for itself.
  • anneeeliz · 1 year ago
Agreed. It's not targeted to kids. The children thing is a gimmick, but a clueless one--since it did not occur to them that actual children might intercept it.

When Paul Wellstone ran, Rudy Boschwitz sent out a letter in the last few days of the campaign to Jewish supporters saying that Wellstone was a bad Jew. It did not go over well and is widely considered to have lost him the election. With any luck, this will do the same.
  • arjuna108 · 1 year ago
Agreed. If a child saw a comic book in the mail that said, "Hey KIDS, come on inside", they would obviously assume it was a political mailer for their parents. Sometimes we don't give children credit for the amazing political savvy they possess. Any small child would have the intelligence to see that "kids" actually means "voting age adults."

Why just the other day someone on TV said "Hey kids" and several 5 year olds ran in to tell me that Dora the Explorer was preparing to address voting age adults.

I'm sure any child who saw a comic book inviting them to "come inside" would immediately bring it to their parents and then go back to reading War and Peace, in Russian. Very good point!

They really need to put on their white hoods so we can tell who and what they are.
  • DorothyGale · 1 year ago
"Anyone else think the Republicans drew Franken a bit "ethnic," shall we say?"

I've donated over $400 to Franken so I'm on his side. Although that Franken characterization is wearing a beanie, I don't think that intentionally pointing out that Al Franken is Jewish would help Norm Coleman since Norm Coleman is also Jewish. If anything, it's a reflection of the Republican's own personal sickness that bled its way into the "comic". They probably don't think much of Norm Coleman either.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Yeah, but you know what... his "Vote for me" comic book probably has something like this for the "lure":

"Hey Kids, I'm your new Uncle Norm.... if you come with me, I'll give you some candy.... and TOYS ..... and I'll teach you things.... but don't tell your parents.... it'll be "Our Little Secret"

Republicans - the party of hatred and greed.
  • anneeeliz · 1 year ago
That is NOT going to go over well.

Coleman has the nerve to point his finger at Franken and say that Franken is unfit for office. Such absolutely clueless, vicious, yet dirty hypocrisy.

When did Minnesota grant suffrage to "kids" under 18?
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Republicans bitch and moan about their children being exposed to "Heather has two mommies" then they target them with that kind of nastiness? Just goes to show ya it has nothing to do with their concern for children, but their ability to leverage a few votes AT ANY COST.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
    Disgusting.

Anything from the Rethugs or rightwing groups (like the Susan B. Anthony List mailer against Kay Hagan & choice) that comes to this house gets marked "Return to Sender" and dumped in the mailbox.

I believe in making them pay and pay...
  • okojo · 1 year ago
I am going to be parsing and spining
    for a second..

Technically, this didn't come from Norm Coleman's campaign, it came from the NRSC, so Coleman can "deny" he had anything to do with it. (NRSC aren't going to fart in Minnesota without Norm Coleman's approval)

Norm Coleman basically has "plausible deniability" on this, even though it was so pathetic, and he will drown in the irony if he states this in the media.

Second, given the colors, it is multi pages, this was probably done months ago. I would find the printer/publisher who got the contract for this.. The NRSC is releasing this, because A) they are running out of money and probably so is Coleman
    B) Someone saw these sitting around a warehouse somewhere and just said release them, it can't hurt, Coleman is going down anyway.

This is a very desperate move on Coleman and the NRSC's part.

The Star Tribune should find the printing contractor in no time.
  • Buttles · 1 year ago
I heard on the local progressive radio station (AM 950) that Norman has expressed distatste for this mailing. After all, he pulled all his negative ads and doesn't have any control over what other people do (or so he says in one of his recent ads.) Of course, the little weasl isn't telling the public that he's running to be the chair of the NRSC - which kind of destroys his "plausible deniability".
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
After electing Coleman to the Senate I put Minn right up there with Alabama and Mass (Romney). I thought Minnesotans were smarter then that, guess I was wrong.
  • bish8 · 1 year ago
The Star Tribune endorsed Coleman for Senate. Just read it in the early Sunday edition.

    Ugh. The paper truly blows.

I wonder if this is something you can turn it to your State's Attorney? It seems to cross the line.
  • giftedmadness · 1 year ago
So how is this disgusting? They just mentioned the things Franken has done - it's not like they described or quoted what Franken said. Kids know what rape is. It's actually worse to have a dictionary definition of rape shown to a kid than to say, "Franken wrote about raping women".

I don't think this is gross at all.
  • KidQuantum · 1 year ago
If you look at the pictures they are folding the mailer to make it look like the pictures of the children are directly across from the text. The phrase "then talks about rape with a little girl on the opposite page you can guess my utter disgust" is completely misleading. The images of the children are on one side of the mailer and the VERY TRUE text is on the back of the mailer. What part of this mailer is incorrect or misleading? Nothing.
  • bobc111 · 1 year ago
You've got to be kidding me. Since when do children check the mail, no matter that they do not vote. Mailed to children my arse. Franken is disgusting and would rather not have people know about it. As far as Coleman's approval of this, they don't need his approval, it's called free speech. It's what Franken used when he wrote and said the things HE SAID. Now he's got to pay the piper. Nothing happens in a vacuum
  • fergieinva · 1 year ago
Do you folks expressing shock really believe this was intended for children? I believe you're either being dumb or disingenuous. Kids don't vote. Wonder if these are some of the same "concerned parents" who sat their kids down in front of Beavis and Butt-head or Family Guy because they saw animation and thought "Cool! Electronic babysitter!" If your kids "find" this, it's only because of you. Who was it mailed to? And the crack about the thing being drawn "ethnic" is a bit of a stretch too. How is one supposed to draw Franken?
  • elHombre · 1 year ago
The problem Coleman and other Repubs have is that they actually think Democrats are averse to electing sleazebags. They aren't. If they were, Franken wouldn't be the nominee and we wouldn't be having a sub-prime stimulated economic crisis.

Lying, race-baiting, projection, voter fraud, thuggery, all part of the arsenal. Wise up, Repubs!

Freakin Funny Stuff, Franken gets a dose of his own medicine... To all who are upset, get over it, this is light compared to the crap Franken has spewed over the years.
  • Wisdom · 1 year ago
It's sad how the truth hurts isn't it? Franken makes jokes about raping women and you whine that telling people about it is sick. You're not offended by Franken telling jokes about raping women, but you're offended by the NRSC telling people he did. What an idiot.
  • bigzach1000 · 1 year ago
I don't believe that the writer was "whining" about the NRSC telling people about Franken's jokes, he or she was upset about the juvenile tone of this mailing and how it might attract children. The front of the card is literally inviting kids to open it up and uses comic book illustrations to further entice them. If I had a youngster that got hold of this (and the kids I know would rip right into this because it looks funny), I sure wouldn't want to have to explain pornography or rape to them before the time is right all because of a piece stupid political junkmail.

My question to you, sir, is this. How can someone who uses the name "Wisdom" have such an obvious lack of wisdom? You completely missed the tone and message of this person's post and had the audacity to call this person "an idiot" because you disagreed with what he or she had to say. If calling innocent people names because of your own shortsightedness is not unwise, I do not know what is.
  • Wisdom · 1 year ago
Dear Lord, more whining. Do you know where my grade-schooler learned the word, "pornography"? In a government mandated "latch-key" program at school, put on by a third party organization that was funded by left-wing radical groups. Not in my house, from my mail, where I have control over access, in school, from an approved program.

So give me a break Zach. If a lib group had sent out this mailer, you'd have been OK with it and the far right would be going crazy instead of the far left. I'm a realist who knows that politics is a game of extremes. I also know that any kind of information can be manipulated to portray whatever kind of message you want.

As for my nickname, Wow, that was clever. Did you think up that argument all by yourself?
  • Weydan · 1 year ago
I love this. One campaign gets hit with a negative piece of campaign material, and they are shocked, shocked! that someone would employ it. What a bunch of hypocrites. All this should tell the American voter is that both parties and almost every candidate is brimming over with contempt for you. They assume you are stupid, inattentive and interested in only the most salacious, non-important crap that they can toss at each other. And while some present company may be excluded, they are proven right time and time again. Add that to the complete disdain that the press has for "the people" , and here is why American politics is a stinking, foul sewer, making sure we stagger on as a country until we finally choke to death on our own political vomit. Whew. I'm exhausted...good night.
  • Roth_IRA_work · 2 months ago
Yep! I was agreed, I'll keep in touch to your blog.
