AMERICAblog: Not the much anticipated, much hyped double-digit victory after all.

Democrats will thrive in the general election given that Obama is the nominee for president. The guy has coattails, with all the new voters, landslide Dems.
  • HoustonHal · 1 year ago
Regarding the true election results, what a surprise that Hillary has lied to the American public once again. Dishonesty, deception, and even perjury seem to be Clinton family values.
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
Hal, can you imagine if Obama was the one who had told the tall stories (lies) about being under sniper fire, etc. I have no doubt whatsoever that the Clintons and the repugs would be demanding that Obama step down. We can't have a liar in the White House now can we?

I still cannot believe I supported the Clintons while they were being attacked by the right wing during their White House days. What was I thinking? Never thought I would say this, but Limbaugh was probably the closest to being correct in attacking the Clintons for being fakes. Now I know what he meant. Even as recently as a couple of months ago I would have supported either Clinton or Obama as our candidate. But after Hillary said while sitting next to Obama that she was so honored to be sharing the stage with him and the very next day she attacks him mercilessly. And has never stopped her attacks. She is never to be trusted. And I cannot understand why more of her so called supporters don't see her for what she really is. They are either racist or brain washed.

    Joe

Are you kidding, the media will say she didn't beat expectations? Now why would they do that, it would diminish the rah rah effect the press has going. I said this morning, they rounded up Clinton's numbers to 10 and that is that damndest rounding I have ever seen.

If it is IMPOSSIBLE for Hillary to win the nomination, and she is just wasting her time, why dedicate a majority of your time to kicking her while she is down?

Why not use your platform to go full scale against John McCain?

    BorninUSA,

Don't even go there, fucktards like Limbaugh have never cared about the Clintons being fakes, for fucks sake Rush is one of the biggest fakes of all time, mr. anal cyst ridden draft dodger elite gas bag that he is.
All he cared about was stirring up the pot, and doing ANYTHING he could do to to make the Dems look bad by proxy and through personal smears.
He very rarely ever went to the issues and never rationally came down on the flaws in the Clinton administration, such as NAFTA (as Rush LOVED NAFTA) the relaxing of media regulation (again, Rush LOVED this thing that happened) etc.
Every single real problem with the policies of the Clinton Administration were all things that shit for brains Rush Limpballs turned his phony, fake anal cyst ridden ass eyes away from, while carping endlessly on bullshit like the blow job.
Rush Limpballs, the viagra popping sex tour taking to the DR (you know, where you can have sex with children) gas bag.

With all that said, the Clintons continue to disgust me.
I will never forgive Bill for NAFTA and CAFTA, for media deregulation, for continuing many of the disasterous policies of REAGAN, for not holding Bush I responsible for the Iran - Contra drugs for arms treason, and a host of other related bullshit.
I will never forgive Hillary for voting for the Patriot Act twice (in line with all of the lap dog Repukes) for spending her time on crap like the Flag Burning Amendment (a non-issue if there ever was one) for continued tacit support of Bush's illegal, immoral war on Iraq, for spending months trying to "do something about" video game violence while over a million have been killed and maimed in very real life thanks to the disaster that she has done nothing to even try to stop.

But please, give me a fucking break where Limpballs is concerned.

    scooter hussein in brooklyn,

With very few exceptions, my tv stays off. It sits in an old Mexican cabinet with doors that stay closed. Everything I need to know is on the Net and, with careful selection, not filtered through blow-dried dittoheads. If Joe is right, and Obama is our nom, which means he will be our next prez, then in time I may re-think this. But not now.

Here is an interesting take on the PA primary

Why I Predicted the PA Results Exactly Right

  • Topher · 1 year ago
I wonder if it is becoming disheartening to pull together and read all of these "Hillary Should Quit" type posts, only to see comments, and I assume readership, here plummet. Perhaps Ablog's issue isn't with Mrs. Clinton, but rather with the extremely significant contingent of the Democratic party that is still voting for her. Isn't that the bottom line here? Wouldn't the members of the Democratic Party simply not vote for Hillary (or vote for Obama) if the thoughts and opinions here even midly represented the sentiments of a plurality of the Party as a whole? Just asking.....
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I actually watch television and listen to the pundits, much to the distraction of my better half and I have been stunned by the absolute fantasy that they are spinning about the Democratic primary.

Sometimes I listen and other times I throw a book at the set...but I always pay attention to what the networks are spewing, like it or not, they are the ones that will help influence the winner of this thing.
  • Kansaskitty · 1 year ago
My tv is off, too, and been off all day (actually since about 9pm CDT last night). I can't take listening to the cable hackocracy anymore (that's you Scarborough & Pat "the white hustler" Buchanan). I feel SOOO much better and just dug into my pockets a bit deeper and made another donation to Obama and one to the DNC.

Gawd, please let this be over on May 6!

Plurality of the party??? Since you are just asking let me respond. Obama is ahead in delegates, popular votres (no you cannot count Fl and MI) and money. Clinton is ahead in nothing. Five state does not make a plurality no matter how large the states.

So why can't Clinton close the deal. Where is her knock out punch?
  • Topher · 1 year ago
If you would read what I posted rather than simply look for a comment you may be able to attach your talking points to, you'll clearly see that I did not assert that Mrs. Clinton was ahead in any of the number matrices. All I said is that a very significant portion of the Democratic Party believes she should be the nominee. And I don't think that should be blown off with such a blase attitude. And given that this is a party nomination race, and not a general election, do you not think it is significant that we remain mostly split between the two candidates? The Democratic Party is not bound by statistically marginal primary results in chosing their candidate--that is the entire reason for the superdelegates' existence. Aren't your calls for Mrs. Clinton to quit akin to Bush claiming he had a "mandate" after the 2004 election? Neither is going to have a "knock out punch," but that leaves both standing with the Party still in the difficult position to decide who will be a better leader. And I doubt that the minimal difference in delegates (which is a completely arbitaray calculation to begin with) will be the deciding factor for people who are interested in providing leadership to the Party. I'm NOT saying that means I think the supers will go with Mrs. Clinton--I just don't think they will see Mr. Obama's delegate victory as determinative.

She's behind in delegates and can't possibly catch up. I wonder why she can't close the deal.

I love this governor from Oklahoma

Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry endorsed Barack Obama's White House bid Wednesday.

"Senator Obama is uniquely positioned to unite our nation and move beyond the divisiveness and partisan skirmishes that too often characterize politics as usual in Washington,” Henry told The Oklahoman.

9+% is not 20+% by a long shot. I don't know whether HIllary is finished yet or not, I know I'm over her, I know that if Howard Dean and the DNC force her onto the November ballot that I'll cast a dissenting vote for good ole' Ralph, and I know that I don't turn my TV off, my dog enjoys Scooby-Doo reruns. She's spoiled that way. All in all, it's been an unpleasant run through the primaries. I hope this has been another symptom of the arrogant ignorance of the worst presidency ever and not an omen of the near future. Poor Bill. Poor Hillary. Poor Chelsea. Will they be moving to Paraguay soon?

Would someone please explain this math thing to the media? Slowly, so they get it. Maybe more than once.

Let's see if I get it.

Hillary cannot win enough pledged delegates to win the nomination = she doesn't get to be the nominee.
Hillary doesn't have enough money to campaign effectively = she doesn't get to be the nominee.
Hillary is behind in states, pledged delegates and is only ahead in superdelegates by a slim margin, = she doesn't get to be the nominee.

May 6th. Please, let this be over.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    JimOlson,
Unfortunately, at this point in time, the winner will be chosen by the Super (?) Delegates and all of this posturing is for their benefit alone. Plus, the media has become the cheesy(er) brethren of TMZ, thus they will do and say whatever their corporate masters want.

There was once a day when the news arms of all of the networks actually provided the news to the people for free. They took a loss (can you imagine?) to provide the actual facts of whatever subject they discussed.

Man, is that concept lost on the new group of power crazed lackies...

Whoa! Congressman Adam Smith just handed Contessa Brewer a punch on the jaw (not literally). I was only half paying attention but she has asked a number of time why can't Obama close the deal and some other irrevlevant questions and then all of a sudden Smith said something like--Obama can't discuss the issues because while I have been standing here you have run the Wright clip threes times. Contessa was pissed to be reprimanded on the air. Her answer " well is it is the news of the day that is what we run"

    Go Adam Smith.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Man, I could swear MSNBC was/is FOX news today. Over and over the same "close the deal" crap and I cannot begin to count the number of times I have seen Wright.

Why is it about Hillary and not about her voters...She continues to deceive them that she can win...Hillary lacks leadership or she has leadership that will send her voters over the cliff...I feel for her voters ,it all about taking there money for nothing in return.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
"All I said is that a very significant portion of the Democratic Party believes she should be the nominee. And I don't think that should be blown off with such a blase attitude."

There is nothing blase' about my attitude. A larger portion of the Democratic Party believes she should not be the candidate. She is losing, has lost, everyone knows it but Clinton herself. Obama's wins are not marginal and cannot be described as such.

If neither can have a knock out punch, you know and I know it, then why doesn't Clinton know it? Why is she asking the question "why can't he close the deal". She certainly has not come close to closing the deal, yet she has the moxie to ask that question.
  • bill__free · 1 year ago
Unreal! I got so sick of the pundits last night that i turned the tv off also.
  • Topher · 1 year ago
"everyone knows it but Clinton herself"

And, apparently, the people who are voting for her. Over a million in PA alone yesterday.

All I'm saying is that this whole thing is a lot more complicated that you would like it to be. Of course, it would have been much simpler if either candidate hit the threshold delegates before the convention. But neither did or will. And the "larger portion" that you belong to is still not large enough to automatically secure the nomination, as defined by the Party itself. So yes, I believe Mr. Obama's delegate lead is marginal. By very operation of the system in place the margin between the two is too insignificant to be outcome determinative. If you take a look at the larger picture, I think this fact is indisputable. Which makes your calls for Mrs. Clinton's withdraw from the race, disingenuous, self-serving, and quite frankly, dellusional.

I also see that you have asked me about Mrs. Clinton's rhetoric. I certainly have no idea what her strategy is. And I personally don't care. Most importanly, I believe that if you would take my comments out of the context of this blog (where I now assume based on your question I am viewed as some sort of pomoter for Mrs. Clinton) you would see that I am commenting on the realities of the system in place and the factors I believe any reasonable leader in any type of organization would take into consideration in making such a monumental decision. But, if you'd rather pretend that I am here to promote one candidate over another, I suppose it would be about par for the discourse here since February.

So what if it is 9.4 percent instead of 10.5 percent.. Hillary got close to a double-digit win up against the most obscene spending spree since President Nixon's re-election campaign in 1972. And despite Barack the Knife's "who me?" phony claims of being above old style politics, Hillary had to overcome a vicious, negative Obama-surrogates-blogs-MSM campaign that was as good as anything Karl Rove could have devised and must have the late Bob Haldeman laughing in his grave.
  • gconrow · 1 year ago
Yeah, What is the difference between one point? She was suppose to win by double digits and she didn't, but why not enter the marry go round of anti-rationality? I mean what is the difference that Barak is winning the delegate count, and the popular vote by states won? So what if there is no conceivable way she can win short of a pariah victory? So what if she has unelectable negatives? So what that she was 26% ahead of Barak when the Penn contest began and Barak got it under 10 points? So what if she had the support of the governor, mayors and brand name recognition? Yes lets count non-elections so those poor souls in MI and FL count, while denying the count that has already happened. Oh yeah, I forgot it is not delegates or every vote counts the Supers should support the most electable candidate! Oh--her negatives are in the 50% range--that's right not electability its the will of the voters!!

This is nothing by pure nihilism and proud willful ignorance.

Except it does not matter whether it was 10 points or 9 and some fraction. The point is that Obama outspent Hillary by 3 to 1; he had the momentium, the "inevitablity" if you will; he has the key endorsements; he has everthing except sufficient votes to knock her out? Why? Why is it that polls show that in most liberal state in the country, Massachusetts, McCain is ahead of Obama, while Hillary beats the Republican hands down? Something has clearly gone very wrong for Obama, and his predicted sweep into the nomination and November. Perhaps it is a combination of the Rev. Wright, weatherman, "not proud of America," "won't wear a flag pin," ""those poor economically-disadvantaged fools who cling to religion," factor? Perhaps, too, the glow has simply worn off of Obama, and it is dawning on people that there is little of substance there? He doesn't really have the experience really even to run an apartment complex. He has no substantial legislative legacy either in Congress or in the Illinos state legislature. He has no business experience. He is, in short, a pretty face and bag of wind spewing forth ear candy. Now the problem is that he will probably get the nomination, and John McCain will probably get the victory. I suppose this is just Democratic tradition i.e. to nominate someone who has nothing at all to do with the lives and aspirations of geniunely average Americans. Is it going to take a McGovern-style defeat for the party to learn yet again that to lead it has to inspire, and to inspire it has to actually do the things most Americans want, and not the agenda of fringe elites?
