Whoa.
Deacon_Blues

He may get away with treason, but let's see him get away with this.
ron071
Sorry , Deacon, but he WILL get away ONCE AGAIN. Fortunately, his is a history well known to the civilized world of which he is not a part.
Deacon_Blues
He may get away from the law -- but I bet his wallet is going to be a lot lighter if the guy he hit has a good lawyer, especially if he has a rep as a bad driver.
bluestockton

Yeah, Bush will issue a ton of pardons on the morning of January 20. Either that, or give Novak the Medal of Freedom.
ron071
Bush/Cheney/Rove/Novak/Pearl/Wolfowitz are all birds of a feather and hopefully they will all be just bad memories. However, the damage they have done will be with us for a long time to come and I don't think it will be possible to purge them for a very long time. That will be their legacy.
A regular human being would have been taken into custody and their car impounded.

I can't stand Novakula, but in fairness - if it was a hit-and-run, he would be in custody. Unfortunately, being a dick isn't against the law.
Soundboy_jeff_meanie
true, if it was a hit and run... but then, the good samaritan kept it from being a hit and run.
in the article, the guy on the bike said he "kept trying to get away".
so I guess novak's lucky he was caught.

And license suspended pending trial. Of course, the laws don't apply to neocons.

I'm sure FOX's slop shop will do hit pieces (no pun intended) on the bicyclist and the and the person hit to say this was a left wing set up.
Novak should make some 6' 8'' 350 lb cross dressing inmate a sweet little wrinkled bitch in the DC jail.

77 year-old driving black Corvette recklessly = very old micropenis with anger issues.
michaelt

not everyone who drives a vette has penis issues. they just happen to be great cars.
loona_c

Yeah, but HIM driving a vette explains a lot.
michaelt

that is true.
Soundboy_jeff_meanie
LOL...
ya know... I love fast cars... and I admire Corvettes... but I could never own one, because I myself see it as a penis extension.
not all sports cars, just Corvettes. (well, Pontiac Firebirds and Cameros are also on that list)
unfortunately, those type of people bought them and created a link that has kinda spoiled a good car... same with Caddilacs, they have a stereotype.

This is my favorite part of the article; <<“’Learn to read the signs, [bodily orifice]!’ Novak snapped before speeding away,” according to an item in The Washington Post’s Reliable Source column.>>

what a dick.

Just one more nail in the Novak coffin. Why won't this man just go away? He is a force for all that is wrong in D.C. I've long hoped for his retirement but guys who serve up slime just never seem to go away. His nickname, "The Prince of Darkness" is so very apt.

Being a late-in-life Catholic convert, Novak missed out on the days when nuns would warn parochial-school students to always be on their best behavior in public because non-Catholics would blame all Catholics for the bad behavior of a few. (Well, gee, if they didn't make parochial-school kids wear those dorky uniforms, then maybe no one would recognize them as Catholics.) Still, he has plenty to tell his confessor next ime.
Bush_Bites

These late-in-life Catholic Converts like Jindahl get on my nerves.
If you weren't tortured by nuns you can't be a real Catholic.

As he traveled east on K. Street, crossing 18th, Bono said a "black Corvette convertible with top closed plowed into the guy. The guy is sort of splayed onto the windshield.” ---
and Novak's response?
“I didn’t know I hit him,” Novak told reporters from Politico and WJLA on the scene. "He's not dead, that's the main thing."
okay, I don't know about the rest of you... but if someone was 'splayed across the windshield'... I'd assume I'd hit someone.
then again, maybe Novak doesn't realize that 'the little people' are people too?

Wonder if they gave him a breathalyzer? There have been a bunch of teevee appearances where I was sure he was under the influence.
Then again, I could just be projecting.
Soundboy_jeff_meanie

he's a neoconservative. its a natural assumption to make, that they may be on drugs or drunk at all times.

I'm glad the cyclist stopped him. Wayy too much hit and run happens in DC, and the traffic cops here are horrible -- they could care less about arresting anyone for a criminal violation. They just like writing citations for the fine money.

Soundboy_jeff_meanie

I was thinking of that myself... then I thought... ya know, I bet his Corvette would make a nice sized speedbump for my Jeep if I ever encountered him :-)
so I guess I'm agressive myself.

“’Learn to read the signs, [bodily orifice]!’ Novak snapped before speeding away,” according to an item in The Washington Post’s Reliable Source column.
Novak explained to the paper: "He was crossing on the red light. I really hate jaywalkers. I despise them. Since I don't run the country, all I can do is yell at 'em. The other option is to run 'em over, but as a compassionate conservative, I would never do that. "
----
bWAHAHAHAHAH!!
so, the question is... is he feeling a little less compassionate these days?
Bush_Bites

Novak says only liberal pansies stop until the police come.
(Seriously, though, the guy's probably as old as McCain. Maybe he blacked out or something.)

77...old fukker in a covertable VETTE............asshat
hardeknox
He's 6 years older than McC. He's not the only one who drives a sports car. Paul Newman's in his 80's and still racing, albeit a little more slowly. I have a 75YO friend who drives a 350SL quite well. I'm 67, drive a blown Miata and teach competitive driving. If Novak didn't know there was somebody trying to dent his hood, he needs help. I hope he gets a defensive driving course as part of his sentence. And a stake through his chest.

Yeah I know. You were going for the laughs. Yours sounds like a typical comment a resident of DumbFuckIstan or Lennie Brisco might make.
No matter how much anyone hates Robert Novak no one deserves being fucked in jail by fellow inmates as punishment.

Novak does.

Novak does this all the time. Ed Schultz mentioned how Novakula almost ran him over while leaving a restaurant in DC

Jayz! At the link, Novak sez he didn't know he hit anyone, yet the poor victim was "splayed across the windshield." Had to be drunk as a skunk.
Busboy

Lots of people in major cities wait for upscale cars and "arrange" a hit and run while their accomplices are standing by to be witnesses. Happens all the time.
zadig
Can you link to a story about this trend? Statistics showing that "lots of people" are doing this? Point to any evidence that it's the case this time? No?
Busboy
You must live in a vacumn. If you google "hit and run insurance fraud", you'll get more on the subject than you could read in a month. Here's just one example:
You're pointing me to an insurance company web site that says 10% of all claims are due to organized crime rings? You're going to have to do better than that. That's still not "lots of people" as you claimed, and it's still not any valid reason to suggest it's fraud in this case. You made an irrelevant, exaggerated point, and you can stop defending it now.
Soundboy_jeff_meanie
and they're usually KNOWN by police. the guy he hit was 68. how many 68 year olds throw themselves in front of cars?
and... if you're going to go there, blaming the victim as perpetrator?... what does it say about America if 68 year olds feel they need to throw themselves in front of cars?
the 'accomplice' (the guy on the bike?) was a trader... something tells me he wasn't in the hit and run scam business.
busboy, either you should follow all of your comments with an '/snark'... or you really should seek professional help.
one more thing... in DC? a Corvette isn't an "upscale car".
Busboy

I refer your dumb ass to my reply to Zadig, one below...
PeteWa

of course you either didn't read or understand Soundboy Jeff's comment, you stupid fucking, knuckle dragging, mouth breathing moron.
your prior post of inanity does nothing to rebut the points brought up, not that you care since you are defending a fucking traitor.

funny... aren't you always talking about childish name calling??
typical repugnican, you make the rules... but they don't apply to you.
let it be known that I'll be less civil in the future as you've shown there's no need.

unrepentant_expat

This just in... The name of the victim has been released; she is former government employee, Valerie Plame
JamesR
"What are you talking about?" "What pedestrian?" "Where?" are responses consistent with innocence or at least ignorance.
"I didn't see HIM THERE." implies prior knowledge, and nascent bullshittitude. I wonder if he were speeding away also to hide a cellphone he might have been on?? [Another DC law to break, besides "failure to yield right of way" (+ mayhem,) is talking on the phone while driving.] What. A. Dick.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, except it involved injury to an innocent pedestrian.

Has anyone posted this video that occurred right after the "accident"? Novak does look a little "under the weather":
Police have now taken Bob in for questioning... Funny, he didn't know he hit anyone but the guy flew off his windshied. I think Bob's nose is getting longer. D.

Give him a polygraph and see if he is lying.
And while they are at it, they should ask him about the Valerie Plame case and you'll see all the LIES we need to have on record.
"Novak tells us he was listening to "Morning Edition" on NPR in his Corvette when suddenly, "Some guy came up and hit my car with his fist. I figured I had done something that had created road rage, but I didn't know what it was. Then a bicyclist blocked the road in front of me. I asked what the problem was. He said, 'You can't just hit people and run away!'"
I hope the victim sues him!
Meanwhile, this girl hits someone in LA and runs away like Novak, but someone stops her. But she gets THREE (3) charges!
hopefully they will all be just bad memories. However, the damage they have done
will be with us for a long time to come and I don't think it will be possible
to purge them for a very long time. That will be their legacy.
