AMERICAblog: Now Hillary is embracing John McCain's tax-cut plan

  • KerrynowCampau · 1 year ago
    I'm sure she is.

They must benefit her and Bill immensely.
  • ericgoldman · 1 year ago
This is just the gas tax, and just for the summer. Misleading much?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
How long will it take for the Democratic Party to wake up and realize that both Hill and Bill are NO LONGER DEMOCRATS?

How long will it take for the Democratic Party take note of the situation and actually DO SOMETHING about what is going on within the party?

How long will it take for the Democratic Party until it self destructs?

Even though Clinton has no chance of winning.....

A person close to North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley tells The Associated Press he will endorse Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.

I was an Edwards supporter before he dropped out of the race, and now if he doesn't issue an endorsement for Obama BEFORE the primary, I will forever be deeply disappointed in that man.

Apparently, Annie Oakley wants a subsidy for her drive over to the shooting range.
  • KerrynowCampau · 1 year ago
Well now that I finally read the article, Obama comes off very good in it.

    Score another for Obama.

Suspending the tax is ignorant. The savings, per customer, would be so slight in the long run that it will make no difference at all. What would also be bad would be the suspension of revenue that the tax funds for roads, highways, etc. That funding would take a direct hit and hundreds of millions of dollars would be lost.
And then when the tax holiday came to an end, consumers would be hit with a huge increase that could create more economic chaos.
Besides, the proposed tax holiday is a mere bandaid for a patient in need of a heart surgeon.

I dunno. Obama was talking about what a great leader Reagan was a few months ago-- which, as someone who lived through the 80's, I know is a total crock. He should have said Reagan was a front man for a bunch of crooks. His Secretary of Labor was a mafia lawyer, for crying out loud. But maybe the difference is, Reagan's not running?

Why haven't you said anything about Rev. Wright all day?
  • scooter in brooklyn · 1 year ago
    the clintons are shameless hypocrites?

    OMG shocking.

    not
  • nsr · 1 year ago
Who, me? I think Wright was right.
  • KerrynowCampau · 1 year ago
    nsr,

If Obama said those things, even though true, the MSM would paint him as a nut-ball.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
Hillary Clinton is part of the NeoCon Alliance and a traitor. Take her away! ;-)

  • nsr · 1 year ago
The thing that bugs me about the Wright situation is the way the infotainment folks have turned the footage into a kind of "scary black guy" backdrop-- "Oh no, an angry negro!" -- trying to stir up kneejerk racism. But it helped that fine moral man George HW win in 88, so it's nothing new.

Every $1 billion raised by the federal gasoline tax generates thousands of jobs in every state in the union. Speaking as someone who lives in Chicago, the long, hard winter has absolutely destroyed our streets, expressways and sidewalks. If anything, we need MORE spending on highway improvements and repairs. This tax cut is as wrongheaded as the federal giveaway of rebate checks. Both will add to the deficit but do zilch to address our real problems.

Next up: Hillary says she'll support strict Constitutional constructionists like Antonin Scalia when she selects a Supreme Court justice and she wants Roe v. Wade overturned. I mean, is there anything on McCain's wish list she won't endorse?
  • donotmakemecomedownthere · 1 year ago
Hillary is simply positioning herself as the front-running candidate for the position of Vice-President on the Nov. ticket. The Republican ticket, that is.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Hey Nigel, let Easley endorse Clinton. He's not the most loved governor here anyway. We all wonder if he even exists sometimes.

Well, if Clinton is endorsing McCrazy's tax cuts, that must mean she's truly arrived among the rich and famous. Obama would only give tax cuts to those making less than $75K--effectively cutting himself out of the deal. How's that for having the well being of most of us at heart?

Is there any chance that Paul Krugman is noticing that there is anything wrong with his heroine, Hillary? In his column in today's NY Times,http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/28/opinion/28krugman.html?_r=1&ref=opinion&oref=slogin
he says, "The impression that Mr. McCain's tax talk is all about pandering is reinforced by his proposal for a summer gas tax holiday--a measure that would, in fact, do little to help consumers, although it would boost oil industry profits." Guess who else is pandering, Mr. Krugman.

Except that most Americans are not policy wonks like most of us are. There is an important *psychological* component to this idea that will appeal to many average Americans.

McCain and Clinton both realize that, and Obama doesn't. Obama may even be right ultimately about the utility of such a move, but then again "consumer confidence" isn't exactly something rational either.

At a time when Obama is having trouble connecting with blue-collar Americans because he appears too "elitist", this doesn't help him.

Sure, there is something admirable about staying "on message", but there's also something to be said for adapting to circumstances and being flexible on less-important issues.

For example, if Obama thinks this isn't going to make that much of a difference, why fight it? Agree to it but say more will be needed and then segue back into his platform issues on this.

This is an example of where Clinton's political experience helps her outmaneuver Obama, even when he's technically correct.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Well, let her. It's a bad idea, and Obama can attack McCain directly over it as if it is post convention time. He can ignore Hillary since she is saying the same thing but bash her through McCain. Why didn't McCain suggest that the oil companies cut the gas prices instead of suggesting that the gas tax be cut? What will happen is that the gas tax will be cut, cutting off revenues for road, bridge and hwy repair while the oil companies make more profits. I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in Redmond, OR our main drag, Hwy 97, is so bad where it goes through town that it could be the Ho Chi Min Trail. How fitting that she would go along with the Republicans!

Easlely has just endorsed Clinton. What I find a little disconcerting is that Easley, governor of NC, had endorsed Edwards before he dropped out. Then there are all those rumors about Elizabeth Edwards going for Clinton. I don't believe endorsements have ever really helped people decide but if the Edwardses and the governor endorse Clinton it could have some play in the voting.

A couple of liars got together and agreed to lie together like sleeping dogs. God damn liars.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Don't be surprised.

    Bill Clinton:

    1. Oversaw bank deregulation that led to the current bank crisis;

    2. Passed and signed NAFTA, which led to a loss of jobs;

    3. Approved Oil Company Megamerges that helped lead to current gas prices;

    4. Approved Telecom deregulations.

The Clintons are Supply Siders and Neocons.
