Sure, an ad would be great. What would be better is for every news outlet in the country to report it loud and clear. Straight talk, my ass.

If we all write letters to our newspapers about it, we'd get some additional free advertising.

Cute how McCain's up to his ass in this, so he decides to deflect attention from himself by throwing mud at Obama.

McCain't is another Bush. God help us.
My mom and I have been wondering if they deliberately let this financial meltdown happen. The Bush administration has been all about accumulating power for the executive branch and now this bailout is going to give the Treasury Secretary "unprecedented powers". Sounds like a plan to me.
I have my own plan: let the banks fail and the homes they hold paper on automatically go to the homeowner, free and clear.

That's my plan, too.

There is a poll at PBS' NOW web site asking whether Sarah Palin is qualified to be VP. Apparently the repubs are organizing a massive response. The "yesses" are ahead. Register your opinion now at
Well, haven't we learned anthing folks??? You can bet if there is a hysterical ad out aimed at Obama then all you have to do is repackage it and aim it right back at McCain because one of the FIRST RULES of Rovian politics is to hit your opponent where YOU, YOURSELF are weakest. McShame has been attacking Obama for his so-called "connection" to Fannie Mae so you dig a litttle bit, and BAMMO! McCain has HUMONGOUS connections. There ya go... same old tactic.
NOW, lets go get him, DAMMIT!

i don't want to pay premium prices for these junk loans. obama needs to come out strongly against this black-box bailout and demand transparency. paulson's affinity is towards wall street. the public needs representation here too.

This is serious, and very harmful to the McCain camp, but unfortunately, their mindless base, will not think anything of it. When it comes to voting for President, their standards are quite low, and they have no clue about the harmful effects of voting for someone who is strongly connected to the very people, who have financially ruined this country. All these voters can see are a black President, gay marriage, abortion issues, and they don't give a damn about that huge deficit. It is very disappointing that all this bad news about McCain is constantly being revealed, but still people do not seem to get it. American idiots?

Yea, that is one reason why I'm for letting this "economic disaster" percolate for a little while. We shouldn't move too quickly or that stupid, low information voter will still remain undecided about who has the prettiest first lady. We need to smack them in the face with a little dose of reality before the shit hits the fan in the next Presidential administration. The economic fix isn't sustainable and will come back in about two years if this passes. Lets make sure people are aware of who they are voting for, and realize who to properly blame two years from now. If they are allowed to make a quick fix then two years for now that same Wal-Mart shopping disengaged voter will blame the WHOLE THING on Barack Obama, or the current President. Hell, I'm beginning to think Republicans might want Obama to win so they can pull the rug out from under him in two years with economic financial collapse, and then pull a Karl Rove and say, "See, Democrats caused ALL OF THIS with their regulations and higher taxes!"

I had an economics professor (a Republican) once that when I questioned him about the value of our massive debt admitted that debt wasn't good, but Republicans used it to prevent Democrats from instituting any programs that would benefit the public like Social Security. Perhaps this debacle will be used to prevent President Obama from initiating a national health care plan.

Reagan/Bush left the country about a trillion dollars in debt and Reagan made it known to many that his purpose in spending big was to leave so much debt that Dems would not have any money to spend and might even have to cut back on "welfare" programs.

The McCain campaign can run with the line that Davis "didn't really do anything" for all that money. And, Davis enabled all those Habitat for Humanity houses to get built. (just don't tell Sarah about that kind of community organizeen, though).

I called all my congress critters and demanded they NOT support this bailout without SEVERE OVERSIGHT and ENSURING CEO's don't walk away with cushy severance payouts. I also want some push back on the whole claim by Bu$hco. the taxpayer is going to profit from this down the road. They need to be publically humiliated for even saying something like that when we've been bumrushed before, and told the war was going to pay for itself, and be a cake walk. The only thing that should come out of Dubya's quivering lips is, "I'm sorry... I'm incompetent."

Probably just minutes after an advisor whispered in McCain's ear, "Sir, you need to stop saying the fundamentals of the economy are strong! I know it seems that way when you have an unknown number of houses and thirteen cars but you've got to stop! We are in a crisis now!"
What is really infuriating is to see Bu$h stand in front of cameras and throw out bullshit that the American taxpayer is going to benefit from the Wall Street bailout. How crass is it to hear that from the same stinking turd who brough us the Iraq War that was supposed to be a cake walk and pay for itself?

There may be a lot of shoes yet to drop. I'm guessing the Bush administration was hoping to stall everything until after they left town. I don't believe we'll find out what they've done to us until a Democratic administration takes over.

The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein explains how corporate interests take advantage of calamities for fun and profit. Klein was on Bill Maher's show the other night and she believes this crisis is a perfect example of her thesis.

John is right, this should be a HUGE story, and it would be were it the Obama campaign manager. But on CNN and MSNBC this morning there was not one word, that I heard about this story. Not one, but I did hear that Obama has closer ties to Wall St. than McCain because it's New York and there are MORE LIBERALS there. Can you believe this? If you've ever spent time down there you'd know it's a pocket of greedy ass conservatives. A nest of vipers. But it's sounds good to those dumb ass low information voters that are going to vote against their own dumbass interest again.

CSPAN had a guest this morning blaming BARNEY FRANK AND LIBERALS for the current collapse, believe it or not. And NO ONE called in to disagree with this. The word "deregulation" never even came up. The Republicans blame loans to poor people too poor to afford homes for the whole crisis.
God only knows what Fox News is saying now.

EmGD

Yeah, McCain is really going to attack and call out one of his own advisers. They spent all of last week trying to blame Fannie and Freddie for the entire crisis and claim Barack Obama was running them. Think they're really going to ever admit out loud that Davis was a shill for both?
Thank you to those brave patriots, Republicans and Democrats, that risk it all to give us the truth. During the Bush administration it began with Paul O'Neill and Richard Clarke and now these current and former executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I hope Americans pay attention this time and ignore the vilification they'll receive if they are found out. McCain has a history of using his influence to punish disloyalty (as does his cohort, Palin).

You quote: The value that he brought to the relationship was the closeness to Senator McCain and the possibility that Senator McCain was going to run for president again,” said Robert McCarson, a former spokesman for Fannie Mae, who said that while he worked there from 2000 to 2002, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac together paid Mr. Davis’s firm $35,000 a month. Mr. Davis “didn’t really do anything,” Mr. McCarson, a Democrat, said.
Charles Keating, anyone?
Wasn't it Keating who said, when asked if his contributions to and association with McCain and other politicians had been worth it, "I certainly hope so!"
From the Savings and Loans to Enron to "mortgage backed securities," the big-money boyz got everything they hoped for from Bush, Cheney, and McCain (not to mention Phil Gramm and Alan Greenspan).
According to them, NYT is a "pro-Obama advocacy organization."

I take that quote by Mr. McCarson (a Democrat) to mean, they wasted their money because some people actually follow what they believe to be right or wrong. Or, the money was wasted because they didn't get what they wanted from McCain. Isn't that story really an unintentional testimony to John McCain?
Aren't lobbyists all paid to try to change as many politicians minds as possible? There are lobbyists representing every group interest in existence, in Washington. Sometimes they get through to the politicians and sometimes they don't.
Put the lobbyists out of work and there will really be a bunch of whiners in Congress! LOL.
Isn't McCain the one that tried to warn people about what would be coming IF CONGRESS didn't pass legislation to correct some newly discovered issues in the mtg industry, but no one listened in either party?
