AMERICAblog: Obama and the "socialist" indoctrination of our school children

    '"Obama is a socialist"'
    =============================

    Gosh, I wish he were.
  • leliorisen · 3 months ago
Normally, I would be all over other forums taking on anybody who spewed this nonsense.

However, Obama is no longer worth my time defending.

As for the notion that he is a socialist!?! That's rich.

Obama is as corporatist as they come.

If Obama is Hitler that makes him a fascist. How can he be a socialist if he's a fascist?

    Duh...

You are right. He can only be one or the other.

Republicans of today are insane idiots. They don't know what they are talking about. The democratic party is the new sane corporatist party.
  • cowboyneok · 3 months ago
I just watched Alexandra Pelosi's, "Right America: Feeling Wronged" and I have never seen people proud of such ignorance in my life. They absolutely have no clue about the difference between fascism and socialism. For most of them, it means "black guy who doesn't wear a flag pin..." Very, very scary! I shouldn't have watched the documentary. It was very depressing and I ended up silently shouting, "I know you are but what am I!!!" at the idiots Pelosi featured. Our nation is in deep trouble with people, like that, running around.

Sadly, I can no longer defend Obama. Why? Because of his lack of action on DADT or DOMA? No. His apparent capitulation on health care? Nope.

I can't defend Obama because Obama and the Democrats have not been defending themselves. Any of us who choose to defend him/them now will just be enabling Obama and the Democrats to continue to not understand how to fight the Republican spin machine, which has been very effective beginning with Clinton.

The Democrats have not won an election since Clinton. But the Republicans have lost elections since Clinton.
  • elRey · 3 months ago
Spot on Mr. Aravosis!! Obama is entirely too passive. While Republicans and right-wing nuts lie with impunity, and really slander and even threaten the president of the united states, his response is NO response. Only the mainstream media is more passive than Obama in the face of this BS.

If Obama does not want to fight himself, he needs to have an organized singular message for his staff and leading Democrats who go on the TV. to fight back with.

Why oh why are the Democrats so lame and weak? I agree with Butch1... I WISH he were a socialist.

Obama demonstrated that he can be forceful when he told bankers in March:

“My administration,” the president added, “is the only thing between you and the pitchforks.”

  • NotTimothyGeithner · 3 months ago
Yeah, that worked out for the bankers and their record bonuses.
  • unrepentant_expat · 3 months ago
And that was a real shame.
  • synical · 3 months ago
And the bankers screamed bloody murder about the threat and then he caved into their demands. Afterwards, it was all about attracting and keeping the "best and the brightest". You know, the guys who drove the financial markets into the ground. It was pathetic. I remember it well.

Democrats should have learned this lesson way back when John Kerry was being swift-boated. How many times do people have to be smacked upside the head before they learn their lessons? That sound you hear is "hope" and "change" being flushed down the toilet. What fools we mortals be...
  • NotTimothyGeithner · 3 months ago
If you vote for a party 3 times before the age of 30, you're locked for life. From that we could theorize that by the age of 30 our general set of values and problem solving strategies are more or less set. This would suggest that the abused Dems will never understand their strategy isn't working if they haven't changed yet only because it has been going on for so long.
  • maineiac · 3 months ago
When even Newt Gingrich says the right is being ridiculous, you can bet that the anti-speech folks are a small, small minority.
  • NotTimothyGeithner · 3 months ago
Or he's becoming worried they aren't merely an anti-Democratic Party group but growing into a general theocratic anarchy group. Newt is for self-preservation first and formost.
  • gloughlin42 · 3 months ago
What an absolute disaster Obama has become! Unbelievable. He "chumped" all of us - meaning Progressives, liberals, many Independents, and Democrats in general! The only people is hasn't "chumped" has been Republicans by revitalizing a basically "dead" political party after the 2008 election...

I wonder if we could all commission Shepard Fairy to design a tshirt that reads, Punked by Obama?

Is there a single democratic politician out there who's not a goddamn pussy? Bipartisanship is futile. Republicans view politics as a blood-sport, their political foes as enemies to be destroyed by any means necessary.
  • SCLiberal · 3 months ago
"Is there a single democratic politician out there who's not a goddamn pussy?"

Dennis Kucinich, Russ Feingold, and Barbara Boxer are a few. There aren't enough to make a difference though. Kucinich is a bulldog, so much so that ABC felt it necessary to shut him out of the presidential debates. He knows tough politics: he had to wear a bullet-proof vest while mayor of Cincinnati.

I can't help but take a certain pleasure in this latest manifestation of right-wing propaganda - Obama's address to school children. "Children" have always been the right's ultimate propaganda tool. Their tried and true method of getting their way - appeal to the universal of parental anxiety. We gays live with that bullshit all our lives. But Obama was so eager to court the social right. Where's your good buddy, Rick Warren, now that you need him, Obama? And I guess that craven expansion of Bush's faith-based initiative (buying off the preachers) didn't do the trick either. Obama fully deserves this one.
  • SoLeftImRight · 3 months ago
Wow, interesting call. I haven't heard "boo" out of Rick Warren since January. Which is a good thing, but I'm just sayin'.

megaanaustin, Americablog is very liberal with providing users a forum to hyperlink to their site, but your letter to be listed in the blog roll, posted in the comment area, is not the appropriate place to query or ask John Aravosis to link to you. John has stated his policy of linking to blog sites in the pasts are listed by him if he visits and likes the content. Please do not post e-mails of this nature in the comments area in the future. Thanks... I'll leave your comment, for now, so others might take a look at your link to your blog. Also, if you do list a link to your blog, in the future, please try to make it relevant to the conversation or post an "OT" or "open thread" remark very sparingly. Thanks again, for visiting and participating...

sadly, the party of Franklin Roosevelt died with him. Democrats of today only talk the talk and never walk the walk. It's time for some serious change and if it takes a new party and marching in the streets, so be it.

I would say that it carried on with Truman and Johnson.

"If Obama is Hitler that makes him a fascist. How can he be a socialist if he's a fascist?"

You obviously haven't been keeping up with right-wing theory. Ever since Jonah Goldberg published his NYT bestselling "Liberal Fascism" (and before that) the right has been trying to say that both Nazism and Italian fascism were always left-wing, not right-wing movements, born out of Marxism and not out of a free-market conservatism.

"Progressives" are the true villains, because they want the power to reside, not in individuals, but in an overarching government. Progressives on the Left want a welfare state and progressives on the Right want a military state--but both are anti-Conservative.

Thus, in their minds, all bad political philosophies of the 20th century are Liberal and they have always been resisted by good Conservatives.

It's probably already too late but Obama needs to start fighting back really hard.

If he isnt willing fight for us, why should we fight for him?
  • unrepentant_expat · 3 months ago
First, Obama needs to socialistly indoctrinate himself.
  • SCLiberal · 3 months ago
I don't care any longer what the right wing is saying about him. At this point I'm as pissed at him as they are, albeit for entirely different reasons.
  • a. mcewen · 3 months ago
Nothing the President will do or say can stop this meme. If he devoted time to fighting it then the same folks who are attacking him would say "why is he wasting time with this when he was elected to deal with real problems."

I think in this case, this factoid is backfiring on those who pushed it. A wide majority of folks agree with the President addressing school children (and a lot of these people don't know a blog from a bluge), many are asking what the hell is wrong with these people, and in black communities (the place the media ignores with as much fervor as they pushed the "values voters" nonsense), things are started to get just a bit riled up. Mark my words on this last one, black people see what's going on and we get motivated to political action (i.e. voting blocks) too. The difference is no one is paying attention to us.
  • synical · 3 months ago
True. Obama can address this occasionally with a dismissive laugh (you know, the one he uses for the left of the left), but to be truly effective have staffers go out and repeat incessantly in print, on the radio and on TV the moderation of the president and his policies will do at least something to blunt the "socialist" label. Otherwise you have another Swiftboating going on and we saw how not fighting back against it worked out for Kerry.

The mistake is doing nothing. You don't have to defend it or fight it, you have to have the discipline to use the language to blunt it. Talking points are effective, language is effective. And "bipartisan" isn't going to do squat in painting Obama anything but weak in the face of fierce partisanship, so he needs to drop that shtick.
  • RitornaVincitor · 3 months ago
On Tuesday Obama will tell America's school kids that he expects great things from each of them. He will say, "At the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world. And none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities."

I certainly hope the conservatives are protecting their children from these socialist ideas. In fact, if I were them, I'd switch to home schooling where they don't have to include any science either. Teach the children that a pair of each of the 30 million species of animals, including dinosaurs, squeezed onto a boat that measured 450 feet long by 75 feet wide by 45 feet tall. (The largest dinosaur, Ultrasauros, was 110 feet long and three times taller than Noah's arc, and weighed 50 tons each, so let's not teach the kids math either.)

I just heard a report on big ole liberal NPR which spent several minutes on the objections of teachers, parents, administrators, etc. to this speech. There was no reporting for example comparing their objections to what was said or happened with similar speeches by Bush or previous presidents, or much if any reporting of what anyone else had to say. And the shorter capsule news report on big ole liberal NPR mentions the various objections only.
  • Ginger_FL · 3 months ago
My school district sent out a notice on Friday forbidding the speech from being broadcast live. They are also telling teachers to "review" the speech and get parental permission before showing it to students. The district is also providing "lesson materials" in case a teacher chooses to use the speech.
My mother's school district in TN did a district wide phone call assuring parents that they would not be showing the speech to students and if a teacher chooses to use the speech for a lesson, an alternative lesson will be provided if a parent objects.

    HELLO???????????????
If I so much as expressed concern over Das Furher while he was in office, I could have lost my job with the government...yet when a Dem is in the WH....people are encouraged to disrepect the commander in chief at all levels.
    Simply amazing......
You'd think Stalin was giving the speech instead of a heavily backed US president.

I need to move back overseas....It was foolish on my part to believe this country would turn around after the election.
To think of all the effort and money I gave working as a Super volunteer for Obama....
    Never again.....
  • SoLeftImRight · 3 months ago
Why, for the love of the FSM, is AP "reporting" on what people like Beck and Malkin have to say about Obama's speech? This is total and utter bullshit. The story says "far-right critics now charge" ... what? What do they "charge" based on what? Read the fucking speech! It says nothing, and has nothing to do with what these anti-intellectual morons "charge" or "believe" and therefore this is not news, and should not be reported by any news organization that has a shred of credibility. I am generally disgusted with what amounts to "reporting" by the MSM, but this is truly beyond the pale.
