AMERICAblog: Obama has a 78% approval rating

  • grandma · 1 year ago
Obama is doing fantastic.....and the GOP can't stand it.....it's amazing some of the trivial crap they dig for to try and criticize him.
  • Charles2 · 1 year ago
He has 100% approval in my house.

Had an interesting conversation over Thanksgiving dinner with a very fiscally conservative friend of mine... On election day, he and 7 other friends - all Republicans - pulled the lever for Obama. So maybe this approval rating is not all that much of a surprise.

"Republican presidents don't usually get those kind of approval ratings without invading a foreign country."

    devastating but true.

It's wonderful how comfortable the nation seems to feel with him. I hope the good natured response lasts for a while. I'm tired of the meanies and the moose-hunting approach to life. It's nice to see a man approaching our highest public office who appears to be sane and emotionally well-balanced.

Maybe the period of ignorance and extreme conservative ideology in this country is finally coming to an end. May Fox News and Rush Limbaugh wallow in their own paranoia and filth for the next eight years.

CNBC refusing to show the value of the Dollar as Paulson borrows and spends like a good Republican puppeteer.

Wouldn't obliterating more jobs help the economy? That's what we were told.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
I bet a handful of Republicans go to DC to get their asses kicked during the inauguration......that way FOX can stereotype his following as a bunch of ruthless drunks.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
When will Paulson ask the credit reporting agencies how much deep shit we're really in? It does kind of matter when the U.S. economy is based on people's abiility to maintain a clean credit record.

How's the Dollar doing CNBC? What's with all the secrecy?
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Maybe the economy is shitty due to Clinton's penis.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
No, according to Bush's latest interview on ABC, it's shitty because of HIS DAD'S penis. No wonder Bush turned out so shitty.

    I approve of this President-elect.

GM is promising more layoffs if we give them Billions. WOW! Where do we sign?
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
GM's 5.3 Litre engine is notorious for cracking the heads. Wonder why they won't recall them? I guess you just can't ask much of a $30,000 vehicle. There is a Technical Service Bulletin on them.....but no recall.

It's hard to believe that (after 2 years of Dems in control of Congress) that they won't/can't lay out a decent case for impeachment.

How did Cindy Sheehan do against Pelosi? Never heard much about that.
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago
Frankly, after being in control of Congress for 2 years, too bad they couldn't have done something....anything.
  • RitornaVincitor · 1 year ago
"....without invading a foreign country." ROTF! But hey, those statistics mean Bush's approval rating is at 22%, which means that he too is getting a post-election honeymoon.

Saxby refused to do a damned thing about Senator Craig and he still won? I guess good Senators can use airports any way they wish as long as they accept fed funding. Craig made a few "deposits" of his own. Georgia sure has it's priorities fucked up. They have got to quit listening to Limbaugh and O'Reilly eventually.

I for one do not AT ALL consider it a good sign that so many Republicans, neocons, conservatives, etc. are so pleased w/ Obama's Cabinet picks. Gimme an effin' break!

According to Answers.com Monkey Boy's first-term approval ratings were just 50% (only half of Murkins liked him); btw, let us not forget he only won on 4 electoral votes (just ONE electoral vote over the minimum) and lost the popular vote; also, he had to be installed by judicial fiat. Even in Florida (which he should have won handily given his brother's stature in the state) he only won by 537 out of 6 MILLION votes cast. He was only supported by American pride after 9/11-- not because he was well-liked; and that lasted only 4 months. Obviously, that "political capital" he was so found of telling everyone has diminished, much like his economy, to where that minimal initial approval has been cut in half. Geez! I don't care how loud the uneducated, mud-breathing and mud-dwelling GOPers scream and spit in your face, he IS THE WORST AND LEAST LIKED PRESIDENT EVER !

I'd like to see those numbers a month in when he actually has responsibility and the "He hasn't fixed this financial nightmare yet. Obama recession." bitching starts up. It's nice that people like him while the current guy's empty leadership is compunding every problem Obama is going to have to face, hour by inept hour. He's gonna need that 78% cushion.

At this point, it is not surprising that Obama enjoys broad support. Unfortunately, it is also inevitable that this support will evaporate rather quickly unless Obama can move quickly and is highly effective - more effective perhaps than any president in US history. He faces a set of problems in this country that are not unlike the Twelve Labours of Hercules. He has chosen to surround himself with people who, while clearly highly intelligent and experienced, helped to create the many problems we now face. The current problems with the economy, with healthcare, with climate change, with energy, with geopolitical competition for the world's diminishing resources are all intractable and we will never even begin to solve them unless, and until, we first change our way of thinking. And changing the way we think can be the most difficult problem of all.

Hopefully, Mr Obama will be able to leverage the current support he enjoys to gain buy-in for what will be some very difficult policy decisions.

Could it really be true? Could the era of partisan "I disapprove of X because he's from the opposing party"* be true?

*I have many, many other reasons to disapprove of Shrub, but you know what I mean.
  • wearing out my F key · 1 year ago
he hasn't done anything yet, so i guess what's not to like?
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago
Well, believe it or not, I'm part of that 78%. I was so afraid that he would appoint far left folks to his cabinet, continue his threat to raise taxes on folks making over $200,000, assess a profit tax on big oil, and leave Iraq within 16 months, that I was just holding my breath. I'm glad to see that he has moved so far to the center. He now has my support, and I wish him every success in performing the most difficult and important job in the world.

It could be 100% approvall but he hasn't done anything yet.
