AMERICAblog: Obama lets McCain have it on the economy. Calls McCain's commission idea " the oldest Washington stunt in the book"

  • grandma · 1 year ago
    Way to go Obama !!
Exactly....and straight out of the Bush playbook....the 911 Commission and some committee to investigate Katrina(whatever happened to that)....and Bush's War Czar (whatever happened to him)........any play in the book except to take responsibility for their own failed polices.

Way to go Obama. I say McCain meet Mo. The Mo is a changing. McCain is losing it. Say him on Morning Joe and he insulted Mika. Now some of the conservative reporters are mad about Palin being on the ticket. Fiornia said this morning I guess on a radio show (not sure) that Palin didn't have the experience to run a big corp. Sweet Jesus maybe the tide is turning on the issues and not Palin.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
ThinkProgress has a post on that:

Earlier today, McCain spokeswoman Carly Fiorina told a St. Louis radio program that Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) was not qualified to run a business. This afternoon, she reiterated her comments on MSNBC, this time clarifying that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) — or any other presidential candidate — couldn’t run a major corporation either.

    http://thinkprogress.org/2008/09/16/fiorina-mcc...

The McCain camp seems to be doing a lot of backtracking these days.
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
I just found it thanks. Its also on the Huff Post. I think the MO is changing again.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
But, then, Fiorina herself was SO eminently qualified to run HP....into the ground! (McCain needs to surround himself with people other than losers).

Well it sounds like a cliche but McCain's call for a blue ribbon commission etc once again sounds like he is very very late to the "party". He is like a guy who sees a spark slowly trun into a raging fire and only then calls for the formation of a bucket brigade.

ok, I only hit the submit button once. Discus sucks.

    I agree big time.

    More! More! More!
I'd also like to hear a few questions about McCain's mental state and medical prognosis.

god no! As much as possible, stay the heck out of the personal attack arena. You just open up a pandoras box where McCain will start yelling agism and sexism at every turn. No, Obama is playing this right, hit them hard and hit them often on the pure idiocy of their policies.

My only complain about Obama has been that he hasn't come across as forceful and tough enough, I'm starting to feel satisfied that I am being proven wrong.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
    exactly... hit HARD on policy.

that's the one thing mcsame DOESN'T want to talk about, the actual ISSUES.

you keep hearing how mean Obama's being, a sexist etc... all bullshit.

anything to keep from having to talk about the ISSUES.

[This is a double posting, it's true. Some things need to be said more than once.]
Some of my neighbors' pension checks come from AIG. The weekend's events convinced them we have to get Obama into the White House.
-Could I get them an Obama sign for their lawn?
I stopped by the Obama HQ downtown today (Orlando). They're out of lawn signs.
-When will a fresh shipment be in?
    - Uncertain.
    . . . and so it goes . . .
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Obama headquarters here was all out of bumper stickers, etc last week....so I ordered from his site...still waiting.
  • bob915 · 1 year ago
Indi, my local Obama office is bereft of lawn sign, stickers, bumper stickers as well.............. to the website barackobama.com and they have plenty of stuff available individually and in packages.

It boggles the mind. I just saw a Rassmussen poll that shows McLame ahead of Obama by 3 points on the economy.

Are people too dumb to realize that McSame is offering the same Bush economic policies, written by the same incompetent crowd, like Phil Gramm, and therefore, these policies will not work? Even a kid can get it. I wonder why these people cannot get it.

Obama gave a great speech on the economy just now, and it was amazing how much he speaks about the economy with ease, and in so much depth.
Unlike Old Mac, who really speaks in such a superficial way.

Ignore ALL POLLS ! Look at voter registration this election cycle ....its the elephant (sorry donkey ) in the room.
After all what smart person actually picks up the phone to answer questions for 20 minutes?
  • jebauer · 1 year ago
    republicans
  • bob915 · 1 year ago
I still say these pollsters have land line bias, as well as little to no access to younger voters who have no property records or are in settings not accessible to said polls. Also, the sampling is pobably skewed, i.e. having an equal number of Repubs, Dems, and Indies, and Undec.'s bundled into these results
  • EllaDisenchanted · 1 year ago
Hey, no one ever calls me. I've been voting for years. Many years. lol I'd say I'm a "Likely voter".
  • jebauer · 1 year ago
I agree with you... in a way I'm hoping the polls stay close so we (dems) don't become unfocused... this is so important.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
the voter caging has already begun though... voter registration isn't going to mean much if they manage to cage 40% of the new voters.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
hey soundboy_jeff...did you see this? Obama's team has filed suit against attempts at voter suppression!

I totally agree with you. The only thing that we need to make sure is that we remind people to go vote and make sure you have an ID and the correct address. MI OH and some other states are trying to take the people who are foreclosed on off the rolls. I say if they do that than in TX the democratics should do the same thing on the people that just lost the homes. They want to play dirty it goes both ways. If I were Obamas camp I would remind those republicans that want to do that.

I just checked Pollster.com and it looks like Obama has crept up 1 point in the Gallup and Rasmussen polls (he's still behind though). Is the "tougher Obama" gaining traction? Or is that just the last bit of dropout from McCain's convention bounce?
  • ZennButtKicker (tlhwraith) · 1 year ago
It's not a horserace. I tend to look at the polls maybe once a week and just look at the trends. It will save you your sanity IMO. At any rate, you wouldn't even see the effects of Obamas new harder stance quite yet because it has only really started in earnest yesterday.

it's the old white male fiscal conservative guard dying a slow, painful death.

there are a lot of people in this country who have small businesses and they game taxes and rules and regulations and they swear by the GOP because the GOP just stands back and lets anything go. these people may never come around to how GOPer economics really does hurt everyone. then again, if the entire financial world collapses, they might change their minds.
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
Oh boy are you right. My sister is a dentist and has her own business. She has done really well during this administration. I told her that he may have help you but middle class working people are really hurting. She thinks it would be great if Bush could run again. Boy I went off on her. I told her she could cut back on vacations but most people don't even go on vacation. We don't talk polotics.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
tell her, if more people could afford dental work... she'd have more patients.

economics 101... healthcare is one of the first things to go. and in the healthcare group? dental care IS the first to go.
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
Yes I told her that. I don't wish her harm. Our dad was a retired military MSGT. We came from very modest means. She worked very hard to get where she has. I don't begrudge her that. Our dad died when she was only 11 yrs old and my mother stayed home with her and a 5 yr also. You know not everyone is smart enough to go to college. But that doesn't make them stupid. Life experience give you a reality check everyday. But yes you are right.
  • truthseeker · 1 year ago
You have to remember that polls are lagging indicators. Obama's poll numbers didn't start down until several days after the convention and Madame Moose's selection. Also...look at TRENDS in states. Here are a few states: pollster.com, fivethirtyeight.com, and realclearpolitics.com.

    Economists for Obama.

BAM BAM OBAMA!! Commission my ass!! How much is the commission going to cost? That's making government smaller and more efficient?!?!?! Give me a break McGrumpy... move out of the freakin' way and let this country rise up.

I REALLY can't wait for the debates... I want to hear mcsame discuss his policies, then hear Obama discuss how they're the same as chimpy's.

people need to realize this... if you hate the direction this country's going, you CAN'T vote for mcsame.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Yes, what cracks me up are some of the right winger blogs with this silly idea that off of a teleprompter Obama is no good. They will be in for a HUGE surprise. I can hardly wait.

He had to be cordial with the Dems, & HIllary because we were all on the same side of most of the issues....but just wait until McSHAM and Obama debate. I have a feeling the gloves will be off and grandpa mcgrumpy grump will get so flustered his head will explode when confronted with the truth.

Did anyone else notice how the McCain GOP strategy is the same now as with FISA; The regulatory acts, etc. were created in the 1930's for that time and don't work right now that is why we need to fix it -- By cutting unnecessary government regulation?

Here we go again. We can't let them spin this as not being their fault. 2000 is When Gramn got his bill passed allowing for the deregulation to cut all restraints on the Corps. and this is what you get. GREED pure and simple. Greed does not breed honesty or compassion only more greed.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
beautiful, just beautiful. These debates cannot come soon enough. Perfect.
  • EdgewaterJoe · 1 year ago
To quote an old Keith Olberman line, "Obama is -- dare I say it? -- EN FUEGO!!!!"
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
I'm lovin' this. Hit him hard with the truth. Did you notice he stopped using the word Senator McCain, and is now calling him "John McCain". Little differences, but they make all the difference in the world.

I like how he hit McCain on the "let's form a commission and study the problem" thing!" This is the kind of response that will turn the tide. This is what the American people need to hear--and especially those of us who support Obama.

It's all about the economy now, and McCain's out of his element.

Remember this? All together, now: "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!!!!!"
