AMERICAblog: Obama really was on fire today

  • fostert · 1 year ago
You know it seems like just last week when everyone was worrying about Obama's ability to win this election. Maybe we should just let Obama be Obama. He's doing fine. And he sure looks confident and comfortable. That said, one thing I'd like him to point out is that Social Security is the only part of the government that is even remotely close to solvency. It doesn't go into debt for another 40 years. The rest of the government is already deeply in debt, and going further into it. It is our discretionary budget that needs to rescued, not Social Security.

Yea, dems have really done well governing - their programs have survived the test of time.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
as opposed to repubicans who have survived the test of CRIME
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
The Republicans have destroyed a lot though, Martha. All the deregulation coming home to roost this week, and I would say that they have almost destroyed public education.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
A thought here Fostert: Obama is right to make it an issue. You can bet the Republicans will spend anything they can get their hands on, and then turn aroung and accuse the dems of tax and spend.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Is Fox News reporting any of this? Is middle America hearing this?
  • martha · 1 year ago
That is what I want to know too. The "MSM" is so biased towards the repugs, and then their is faux news that would never ever show this.
  • MichaelS · 1 year ago
    Disturbing new poll:
    http://news.yahoo.com/page/election-2008-politi...
Poll: Racial views steer some white Dems away from Obama
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
This is the fucking fascist press trying to cause trouble again so they can have a close race. What states are they talking about? Alabama? Mississippi? A second point I'd like to make is that those people are probably the same ones who didn't vote for Kerry or Gore. The Democrats have been registering people in record numbers, and those voters didn't sign on to not vote for Obama because of race. We are going to win because we will have record turnout of the black vote AND the brown vote, young people, educated people of all ages, women (yes, women), and independents. Obama's independent vote just went up 7% this week, and in places like Colorado and Iowa which went for Bush in 2004, he is up by 9 or 10 points.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
You're more on point than you can possibly imagine. I actually read a report that the MSM is worried that their ratings are dropping because of Obama's surge in the polls. When this happens, the top dogs sit in a smoke filled room and plot to put news out there that will equalize the race.

Better ratings, more money for them.
  • shanobama · 1 year ago
This article is a LIE. fivethirtyeight had a "Bradley Effect" polling chart. No basis for this at all. In fact, I noticed last night Bill Maher saying Obama is not doing well with white women, but Obama is actually doing BETTER with white women than John Kerry in '04.

This article is bull. It is the start of a plausible lie when they rig the vote. There are two so far:
    1. Bradley effect
    2. Bible Spice bringing out the Xtianists in 'surprising' numbers.

We need to clear 5% to overcome voter fraud, me thinks. Hope Obamas lawyers are on top of this everywhere. Maybe we should all sign up to do poll watching.

He sounds like he has his groove back doesn't he? He looks like he's having fun again. For a few weeks he was looking a little burnt out.
  • RobertSanDimas · 1 year ago
That's more like it, Barack. I've still got goose bumps from hearing that.
  • CobaltBlue · 1 year ago
I really love what he has to say.

However I wish he was less smug and more forceful and stern.

These are not laughing matters, we don’t need laugh lines – It’s not silly season for the majority of Americans.

I want F.D Roosevelt soberness and force. We need hard hitting, direct, humorless truth.

Hit Americans with the force of breathtaking leadership....like the way he finished in this clip.

    I know I'm asking for
  • Gridlock · 1 year ago
It depends.. this is also a good angle of attack. Mock your opponents lies, make them, and by extension HIM an object of ridicule.

Succeed in that, and you remove respect for his opinions. Turn him into a clown.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Well spoken! This is the key, and it seems Obama is in stride. Profound:)
  • ksec · 1 year ago
I love the direction were going now. We need to keep up the offensive and never stop pounding on this liar McCain. We dont use attack ads we lose. We have to keep it up. I love it and its effective. Dont allow them to scare you away from what were doing now. Its a common tactic of the rights to accuse us of smear or attack ads while they smear and attack US.
Keep it up, You could even get more nuts as far as Im concerned. You cant play nice with these guys.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
The message is right. The rest is fine tuning.

I'm just happy he is on fire, unlike McCain, whose pants are on fire.
  • 4dogs · 1 year ago
We need to see ads out on the Social Security issue immediately. He needs to hit McCain over and over again in a strong, forceful way. There is a whole older group of folks who don't know about McCains desire to privatize Social Security. They tune in mainly to the MSM. This is a group Obama has to really hit hard with ads. I've been saying this for a couple of weeks. This is the group that is going for McCain. Obama can move them over is they really see what is at stake for them.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Come on FIGHTING PROGRESSIVES! All those out there who are tired of just sitting back and watching Republicans be snarky, smug and smear Democrats need to fight back. How can we do this? Think of the way Republicans would attack Democrats when they make a huge gaffe like maybe a Vice Presidential candidate referring to their ticket by placing themselves first as in PALIN - MCCAIN. Now! What would Republicans do? They would snarkily refer to the ticket in that way, and when corrected would smugly declare, "That is what Sarah Palin says the ticket is!"

Can we do this? I am. I will no longer refer to McShame first. Palin screwed up, and is not ready for prime time. DRIVE IT HOME AND CONSISTENTLY REMIND PEOPLE she is a gaffe machine!

    PALIN - MCSAME!
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
I'd have to agree on this one. Refer to the ticket as Palin-McCain 24/7. Keep it going. The republicans would.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I have some low information Republican and bigotted members of my family who get CRAZY when I mispronounce McCain with "McSame." I've started saying "Palin - McSame" when discussing the race and it makes them gnash their teeth. I love it. When they try to correct me, I smugly say, "That is what I just said Palin - McSame." Ruthless? Yes, but I.LOVE.IT.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Thank God there are good people like yourself, who understand it's time for change. It's unfortunate that the Republicans have been playing to their base for the last 30 years. And, the country is weaker because of it.

Diversity is going to happen whether they want it or not. But again, it's a blessing to have you on the right side of the battle.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
back atcha, blackwolf. It takes all of us. I've put up with a lot of grief for being progressive and supporting diversity but I wouldn't have it any other way. It just makes victory and doing the next right thing that much sweeter!
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Again, my hats off to you cowboy. It's not an easy thing to go against the grain.
  • shanobama · 1 year ago
    Bible Spice/WALNUTS! '08

And coboyneok....... Thanks for the advice on the voter suppression call I received. I think they had to change their script, haha.

I also had the county try to change my address this year-to my stony back road......to enable to fire department to 'find me'. Yea, right.
I made them look at photos to convince them they could not change my address, no chance. ho-hum, life in a red state.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
    You GO, "shanobama"

Bible Spice/WALNUTS will have my Republican frenemies frothing at the mouth.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
    That's a good tactic.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Another meme we need to sustain is how George W. Bush and Republicans have made us the United Socialist States of America with the $700 BILLION bailout. Also, remind them the Iraq War was supposed to "pay for itself" and be a "cakewalk," according to Dubya when they try to pull that crap of "Bush said it will make us all money!" Also, SLAM them with "THANK GOD ABOVE you slimy Republicans didn't invest our Social Security in George Dubya's casino stock market!"
  • shanobama · 1 year ago
The single most effective target for Palin is the Defenders of Wildlife video of aireal wold hunting. This video gets a 29% negative rating for her. Most negative ads have in the 10% range.

Hunters do not even like the fact that Palin is ignoring state biologists, allowing sport hunting (instead of legitimate culls by Fish and Game), and overkilling predators all over the state. 2,000 wolves a year does not sound sustainable to me because predators have large territorial requirements. She also LIED and misstated the scientists reports to push this through. Just like Bush.

It is mismanagement of wildlife. When hunters cannot bag the number of tags issued then the hunt is not managed properly.
They expected 300 to 700 wolves killed and hunters were only able to bag 150 or so.

This is the most effective ad against Palin so far.

She also killed the lake in Wasilla with poor environmental planning, so that is another issue advertisement that could be developed.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Anyone but me furious when Bu$h injected himself in the Presidential campaign while doing his presser this morning where he said he was going to spend another $700 BILLION of our tax dollars? I'm sure he is crapping his pants thinking about all the crimes that will fall out if his party doesn't hide them for another four years, but PRESIDENTS are supposed to STFU about the elections and not be asking voters to vote for either candidate. I guess when you are George W. Bu$h and have just created the "United Socialist States of America" then the rules don't apply any more?
  • martha · 1 year ago
I LOVE Obama and settled on him as my candidate early in the primary, but I am angry that Hillary had to jump through hoops to be considered qualified and now Palin who is SO UNQUALIED to be pres just walks in and the media is fine that she doesn't even answer a question from them. It is so scarey for the future of our country. No man that was the govenor from Alaska for a year and had such extremist views would ever be let off the hook like she has.
  • WDemDem · 1 year ago
Martha, I have been saying this all along. What a slap in the face for Hillary.
  • martha · 1 year ago
Yea, so why isn't Hillary and her supporters out there fighting hard for Obama? He debated her and fought against the repugs at the same time. (He never disrespected her). We can so debate if Hillary or Obama was better but we dems know Palin/McCain is a disaster and I don't feel any urgency from Hill or Bill or their supporters to make sure Palin isn't elected.
  • shanobama · 1 year ago
Well, Biden dissed Obama a little and Obama got over it. People can act like adults even though the primaries were brutal for all the candidates. Obama picked a advantageous VP for the ticket (best foreign policy credential) ,who is also a great friend of Hillary.

I think Bill and Hillary are on the road for Obama, Hillary just started a campaign called "Hillary sent me".

I think the concept is cool and will defuse some awkwardness. People may even have a laugh over it. We need all the Hillary supporters to go schmooze. Bible Spice Palin MUST NOT be allowed to take the White House. It is unthinkable for women.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
How can you not like Obama?
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I'm watching the CNN Secretary of States forum right now, and I wish James Baker would just realize his little experiment in shoving George W. Bush down our throats has failed miserably, and should just SHUT UP and listen to people who have better brains.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
QUESTION: Why is James Baker so angry? He acts as if his advice and policy hadn't been followed for THE PAST EIGHT YEARS? Just because his policy has blown up in his face doesn't give him the right to be angry, shout over the other secretary of states and act like its everyone else's fault. He really does need to just shut up and listen.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
James Baker and a number of powerful others are the PROBLEM.

    They are not the SOLUTION.

Wall Street is a CRIME SCENE and Baker is one of the unindicted co-conspirators.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Cowboy, Baker is angy, and Colin Powell is on it:) Thanks for reminding me.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Phd's, historians, scholars all within their own right. We need a statesman in the white house.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
America does not need another President who they would like to just have a beer with.

We need a President who has some smarts. And some integrity. And some conscience. And some humanity. And some intellectual curiosity.

Of the financial debacle, Bush said Wall Street has a hangover. YES, and he was the bartender.
  • medium lebowski · 1 year ago
He's not making these points clearly, or briefly enough. Where's the punch? These could all be near-knockout blows that hammer into even the heads of both conservatives and Reagan Democrats, but instead, they're falling kinda flat even among Obama's crowd.

The type of change McCain is for is the type where he changes his positions on the issues that are important to the American people to align with those of his opponent, and sometimes changes them on a daily basis. Thats the type of change John McCain is for.
  • kiki · 1 year ago
You go Obama, let them have it, we love you!

Keep up the Attack Obama - don't let up on the lying GOP rePIGlican rat bastards bottom feeding bigots - our Democracy depends on it!
  • dudervision · 1 year ago
Actually, FDR showed a sense of humor even in the dire times he led our country through. He was serious when necessary but was an expert at bringing in moments of levity when they were so desperately needed.
  • DavidinChelseaMA · 1 year ago
Here's a quip that Obama should use:

When we came up with our motto, "Change We Need," we never realized it might someday have to be taken LITERALLY.

If this administration is allowed to have four more years, a la John McCain, WE WILL ALL NEED CHANGE...DIMES, NICKELS, and QUARTERS!!!!
  • Hurrycane · 1 year ago
He actually seemed kind of nervous to me... but on the whole, a good speech.
  • snoozer · 1 year ago
It's like McCain is giving it away. It's almost -- almost -- a shame that Obama's talents have to be wasted on such a blundering opponent -- as if Muhammed Ali had had no one to fight but bums.
  • bozzy · 1 year ago
Everyone I talk to within my family, work and school they all are voting for OBAMA, his the best WE LOVE U OBAMA. McChain never gives good speeches he always looks frustrated and we dont need some nerve rack as president. Obama is always claim very certain about his decisions has very good come backs on all his speeches and debates.
