2 "senior democratic officials"? have to assume obama didn't mind the leak.
hillary as majority leader would have been good news for universal health care. perhaps there was no way to dislodge reid.

Hillary is tainted from the early 90's with Healthcare....best to not have her around that. ( Not that it was her fault......just sayin' the Righties will reference back to that)

He OFFERED? What does that mean? The article reads weird.

Great news !

I'm glad Hillary said she would "think about it." That shows her intelligence and thoughtfulness and she should accept. How much different than someone who comes to mind who accepted an offer immediately, without any thought processes...
Hillary can restore integrity to the office of Secretary of State, no doubt about it. And she has an ad hoc advisor, to boot.

Read article today this is a head fake...Clinton people leaked the story to pre empt Richardson and Kerry consideration for SECSTATE job.

If this is indeed the case, then they should have learned their lesson when they attempted to force Obama to choose Sen. Clinton as his VP. After all, Obama will lose without Hillary on the ticket.
I don't know if Hillary is best used as Secretary of State. Then again, all this could be rubbish postering by whomever is feeding this beast. We'll see.

Ooohhh kaaayyyy... list of 'time will tell' or 'hope Obama knows he is doing' or 'I disgree, but let's see what happens..'
1. shillary 2. rahm 3. traitor joe liar-man 4. summers for t-secretary?
“Obviously he will influence the president to be pro-Israel. Why wouldn’t he be? What is he, an Arab? He’s not going to clean the floors of the White House.”

I don't think a man should be judged by his father's comments.
Hillary is well-respected throughout the world and she will work directly under Obama. I don't have a problem if she takes it, but I doubt she will. What perfect revenge, she will have to enact Obama's diplomatic strategy that she spent months criticizing.

thx, I'm judging rahm by his own actions, didn't mean to give that impression.

I see the GOP is still paying shills to post on the internet.

me? based on what? criticism of obama? get a grip... reich-wing facism demands loyalty to leaders, not liberalism.
What's more, presidential foundations -- unlike political campaigns -- can accept contributions from foreign citizens and even foreign governments. So, although Hillary Clinton is barred from cashing a $100 check from David Beckham, on the theory that he might be attempting to undermine U.S. sovereignty (or force decent Americans to play soccer), Bill is free to have his annual meeting co-sponsored by the country of Oman, whose interests surely don't overlap 100% with those of the U.S. The real issue here is that the conflict of interest created by the Clinton Global Initiative rules out Senator Clinton for Secretary of State. The Obama job application form is very specific about unearthing potential conflicts by spouses and "family members."

Very good point, and one I had forgotten. Do I smell divorce?

if she hasn;t divorced him yet, it ain't gonna happen. The Clintons must know this conflict of interest exists, so it can't be a serious offer, hopefully.

I think she would be excellent. Plus it's just sort of exciting news--surprising in a good way.
Hagel's my first pick though.

I will be very disappointed and disheartened if Hillary is given any cabinet position, and why would Obama remove a strong Dem from the Senate?

How about we get official confirmation from #44 before this is labeled "politics as usual"?

I so hope this is wrong. I really like Bill Richardson for the post.
And I hope Larry Summers, another Clinton fat cat, does not get a post.

Sounds like she's already throwing a bunch of qualifications on the job.
I don't think she'll get it. Obama would have to promise the handcuff Biden on foreign policy.
Older_Wiser

OK, I'm refusing to believe anything anymore that has terms like "Democratic operatives" or "unnamed high level sources", etc., etc. I'm tired of being gamed by the MSM.
I'll believe it when it's announced, not before.

I have to confess I was never a fan of the Clintons. I still can't stand Bill. Hillary converted me by her convention speech and talking to friends who were her supporters. That being said, I think this is an excellent choice. I love her as a Senator (I'm from New York), but after the past 8 years and the complete fu**ing up of our foreign policy, this is just the ticket, I think, to begin to fix things.
mmedefarge

have you forgotten all of her lies? Kosovo?

You make a good point. However, I'm about forgiving. If Obama felt comfortable enough to offer it to her, then I trust his judgment. I think, based upon that, she's an excellent choice. Your point is well-taken, though.

This is appalling to us in Latin America. Ms. Clinton is just another neo-liberalista (in the same vein as Ronald Reagan - GHW Bush and Bill C) willing to use military force and economic subversion to maintain access to our natural resources... and to keep us in thrall to U.S. financial institutions. No thanks.

McCain was supposed to meet with Obama, too. I wonder if Obama is angling to get him appointed somewhere, thus flipping his Senate seat to the Democrats?

Although I became disenchanted with the tenor of Hillary's primary campaign (as well as her campaign management skills), I think this is a good pick and possibly an "intentional" leak (as Rahm Emanuel was). Obama's staff is notoriously tight-lipped. The Clintons have a store of good-will with foreign leaders, and Hillary has met many of them before. In the Senate, she is known for her negotiating and listening skills. Hillary is an American icon and could do much good as America's face on the world stage (particularly as Obama is going to have his hands full putting out all these domestic fires). Obama talked about building a Lincolnesque "team of rivals," and it appears he is (Joe Biden and Obama have foreign policy disagreements too). And, better to have her in the Cabinet than in the Senate, potentially plotting a revolt in 2012. Keep your friends close, but your rivals closer. I love that Obama has a strong enough ego and sense of confidence to surround himself with very strong personalities. As far as hiring Washington insiders, who else knows how government works? It's especially important this time around since there will be no margin for error, and this administration must come out of the starting gate ready from Day One. I hope Hillary will accept the position.

The meeting with McCain seems more like post-election fence-mending (and boy, there's plenty of mending to do after the nasty, divisive tone of McCain and Palin's bid). Better to have McCain working with Obama rather than against him. Team of rivals again. Though I can't imagine McCain serving in the Cabinet. He doesn't have the temperament or the wherewithall for any of those positions either. Meeting with Obama may also help McCain soothe what seem to be a lot of ruffled feathers in the Senate (thanks to his nasty, divisive campaign). Heck, Obama even let Lieberman off the hook.

Say it ain't so Barak!!! I am going to go with Al at the Field on this one and wonder how she can answer the application process. Not to mention that she has problems with people skills not to mention as a manager. Anyone remember her camapaign??How about the 90's ?? This bothers me on so many levels and truly am not encouraged by this. So how about a man like Kerry or Richardson who might have more leverage with the men of the Middle East. How about as little Clintons or Clintonistas as possibe.Anyway this is my feeling about this and again hope that Al is right. He posted on Kos on this also and is worth the read.

And don't forget the daughter is a hedge fund manager. What kind of world leaders is Shillary supposedly all cozy with--not the ones who care about their people being used as wage slaves by American profiteers. How can she possibly represent us to the world? People were dancing with joy all over the world a few days ago, That would not have happened if Hillary had been elected.

Yeah, what does everyone have against John Kerry?!! He ALMOST won the Election last go around, without an informercial either! I know John Aravosis never thought he was too hot 'n sexy-??
I guess he's not corporate enough for The Powers That Be. Instead, Kerry is well-qualified and maybe one of the few who has retained some integrity in Washington, despite the pressures... I guess that's a bad thing these days???
mmedefarge

Richardson would be my first choice, but Kerry would be a great one, too. And don't forget what an asset his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, would be---a true citizen of the world.

Not to mention the fact that Kerry, too, studied & lived abroad and charted the course for Post-War reconciliation with Vietnam. Useful skill set---I'd say!! Especially with the direct parallels to the current misguided and deadly quagmire in Iraq!... You can't buy or fake that real-life experience.
And Kerry is still serving on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, specializing in Asia--a real hotbed!
Frankly, I don't see anywhere near that level of relevant experience in Hillary yet. And that's a fact, jack.

Kerry is abundantly qualified and of the names being mentioned for SoS he is my first choice.
Google "Bill Richardson, Los Alamos, Wen Ho Lee" to learn why Richardson should not be appointed.
But, anyone but Hillary.
