Obama is correct.
And a good start would be to LIMIT the influence of lobbyists in Washington.
Real hard working Americans need someone to represent them as effectively as K-Street lobbyists have represented the wealthy and pwerful.

How about everyone who is asking for a bailout, banks, insurance companies and auto manufacturers are prohibited from lobbying. That would make a dent.

A good start would be to reinstate the regulatory oversight that the depression-era Glass-Steagall Act provided.
Obama has said he will bring back a modified version of Glass-Steagall if he's elected. (Not sure why he doesn't talk about it here......he'd look right on top of the details and McCain's such an idiot, he wouldn't even know what the hell Obama's talking about.)

In many ways, as you know, Obama is a huge dissappointment. He has recently said that Bush's surge "has worked wonderfully". Anyone with a trace of knowledge about what's going on knows its been a huge disaster - the entire illegal occupation has been. Obama, so far as I can tell, will continue the policy of establishing 58+ permanent bases in Iraq and control of their oil markets (see TomDispatch.com). He voted for the FISA bill granting immunity to the Telecoms for criminal activity and furthering the powers of illegal wiretapping, etc. His policies in Africa parallel those of the Bush administration in that our addiction to oil seems to drive our foreign policy there (backing those groups who have our interest, irregardless of their human rights records, etc). So, in a lot of ways Obama has revealed he is anything but a liberal or progressive - but sure, he'd be better then the criminals in Washington who have 8 years of crimes to cover up for. Personally I see the upcoming election stolen - unless of course the Dems can bring millions out of the woodwork. But I agree Jim, cut the nice shit, cut praising McCain (you know, the one that just released an add saying you want to teach Kindegarten children about sex - which he supported on the "The View".). So while McCain trashes Obama, Obama praises McCain. That is a losing strategy. The Dems are facing a "unfair election" - we must overcome a criminal element in Nov that is desperate to cover up their crimes and continue holding power.

I am afraid that you may be right. perhaps this country is no longer a democracy. When half of the citizens don't graduate from high school in many states what do you expect. We have 3 democratic institutions left. 1. Social Security, 2. Medicare/Medicaid 3. public education.
If obama loses, kiss all 3 goodbye.

I was thinking about John's logo when I arrived at this site this morning. "A great Nation Deserves the Truth".
Well, we're not getting the truth. The Press is no longer giving us the truth. The Press is not controlled by corporate interests - stories about missing little girls take precedence over increasing violence in the middle east, financial troubles, etc, etc. As I have said many times before, our founding fathers said that once we lose our Press we have lost our Democracy. They are right.
Whatever America is now, we are NOT a Democracy, nor our we a Great Country. Therefore, we cannot nor should we expect The Truth.
Hopefully for the next generation they can recover from this 60+ years of facist control - predominately precipitated by the Bush Crime Dynasty and others (starting with JFK's assassination, etc). I feel sorry for the younger generation - to have their futures trashed by people who where active at their age under Eisenhower and Nixon. What a shame. What a pitiful shame.

We'll get the truth eventually. Steny Hoyer told us a few years ago that we'll have fair elections after 2012.

Let's hope. Like I said, what bothers me is not that my generation failed to eliminate the criminals that have been in power since the early 1960's - but that these old scumbags are still wrecking the system and destroying the future of those who are now in their youth. But I agree BB, the truth will eventually surface - and that goes for 9-11 as well. The evidence for the JFK, MLK and RbK murders may have been destroyed - but the films taken of 9-11 will prove one day (and hopefully soon) what really happened that day. Until then I'm not sure Ameirca can move forward. But 2012 is a start - some 12 years after paperless electronic machines were responsbile (partly) for the theft of the 2000 elections. Here we are 8 years later and not a damn thing has changed (thanks to the rePIGs and the Dems who don't fight back - why I'll never know.

I am sorry to be the pessimist here...but if McCain wins this election, we can come to the conclusion that this is one party nation. Obama has run a good campaign, one that would work with an equally decent campaign, but McCain and the republicans are not running a decent campaign, in fact is full of gutter tactics and lies, something you would find in a third world dictatorship, like Zimbabwe. You can also blame the mindless dolts, who prefer to be jobless, homeless, and have their children suffer, than vote for a black man, who offers a real change from the hell this country is going through. The media has done a better job this time, being more vigilant, and fact checking the incredible lies. This time America is backing, once again the same dishonest people. Palin is so much like Bush in 2000. Not ready for prime time, and a total rookie. She had to be given a crash course in foreign policy, and still she repeated herself, robot like, and did not know what the Bush doctrine was. It is okay for my neighbor not to know that, but the future VP of this country? All McCain and Palin has to do during the debates, is to show up, and open their mouths, that's all.
