AMERICAblog: Obama unviels official-looking seal

  • Indigo · 1 year ago
    "Vero possumus!"
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
The GOP is going to have a field day with this. A very poor choice. Very bad idea.
  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
It comes across as very presumptuous.
I wish he would spend a little more time to rethink his position on voting to gut the Bill of Rights particularly the Fourth Amendment. For some reason that seems to me to be of far more importance than the development of a superficial logo.

The Bill of Rights - No cherry picking. A candidate is either for all of them, or none of them. There is no gray area, no if ands or buts. A candidate either is or is not. And I hope, pray, that he will change his position on retroactive telcom immunity. But we shall see.
  • Skycat · 1 year ago
Ben Dover has it right on all counts. "Presumptuous" is the first word I thought of when I saw the logo. It does not come across as particularly creative either. Needs to go back to the drawing board.
  • AdrianBrowne · 1 year ago
It's beautiful but the rightwingnuts are going to pretend it frightens them.
  • McHiggins · 1 year ago
This has to be a joke. If it's not, it's the first truly stupid thing they've done. Worse than that. It's disfiguring. (John, change the spelling on "unveils." We don't want you to be disfigured.)
  • Andrew · 1 year ago
Interesting idea???? Here's an interesting idea Obama. Come back to earth and solidify your position that you began on the campaign trail, like running the country under the rule of law and fillibuster the new FISA bill next week in the Senate. After that you can then worry about looking presidential.
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Oh John I love you...I adore you! Does your titling feature on your end of this have spell check???

    UNVEIL
  • McHiggins · 1 year ago
This has to be a bad idea from a local volunteer. It's a fake symbol--exactly at odds with the central thrust of Obama's character and entire campaign. I can imagine Hillary's folks coming up with this, but not Obama's. If something's not real, it can't be sacred.

What's next? a disfigured american flag? GOP would love that.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
I have a feeling that Obama's campaign is no longer run by the brilliant grassroots out of Chicago but has been coopted by the national Democrats and some in the Clinton team, you know, those people who have lost elections for us in the past. Maybe the superdelegates feel they have some leverage over him because they made his win possible. This is a pretentious "seal" which tempts fate and is a ham-fisted attempt at proving Obama's patriotism. One of the reasons I supported Obama (and his wife) is because they were so real. This thing is not. I e-mailed the campaign about it and hope it disappears fast.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Vero possumus. What a gas. Someone at HuffPo said it sounds like "I believe in possums".
  • McHiggins · 1 year ago
No, it's actually Dame Edna's motto. It's latin for "I am the True Possums."
  • hardeknox · 1 year ago
Absofreakinlutely. And I hope this is a joke in the first place. It's Chaplinesque, from The Great Dictator.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
Well said, exactly. It is hard to imagine they would do this. Surely this must be a joke. Was this something lifted from the The Onion?
  • coolcatdaddy · 1 year ago
Is it just me, or does this look like an update the National Recovery Administration (NRA) seal plastered around business and products in the 1930s during the early years of the FDR administration? In that case, it was flanked by the slogan "We Do Our Part"!
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
It's a picture of an eagle's colonoscopy. Bad, bad "marketing" idea.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
    And it should be buried.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
    Ugh.
  • JMOHR · 1 year ago
Do not like it at all. Looks bad and pretentious. Need to go a bit more humble and then attack McCain's symbol with the star on it with a green background which makes him look very military.
  • RobertCMH · 1 year ago
Maybe he's just waiting for McCain to copy it, and then he'll dump it.
  • arubyan · 1 year ago
    No. Just no.

You won't find a bigger Obama booster than me, but this is ... silly. Call me old-school, but whoever OK'd this should be forced to personally endure all the ridicule that is rightfully rocketing around blogville this morning.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
Agree. Tacky. Bad taste. Get rid of it.
  • McHiggins · 1 year ago
John, I think you should change your header for this, and say "Obama Fake Seal is no joke."
  • kiki · 1 year ago
I'M DONE WITH ALL OF THEM EXCEPT FOR WEXLER AND KUCINICH. IF I DO VOTE I WILL WRITE IN KUCINCH'S NAME. I HAVE HAD IT WITH ALL OF THEM! IT'S ONE PARTY WITH 2 DIFFERENT NAMES. THEY ARE ALL A BUNCH OF CROOKS AND LIARS!
  • arubyan · 1 year ago
    Please quit yelling, OK?
  • warsaw · 1 year ago
Tut, tut, darling. Here, just take this little pill and go over there in the corner and have a little nap.
  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
Dumb. The simple logo he has is one of the most effective logos I have seen since IKE. Why make it difficult?
  • kiki · 1 year ago
Again I say, he can have any logo he wants. It's not the logo that has me in an uproar. After his vote yesterday I have lost total faith in him and our government. The only two worth listening to is Kucinich and Wexler.
  • ezpz · 1 year ago
What vote? The House voted, not the Senate.
If it gets to the Senate floor, they will have a vote next week.
  • kiki · 1 year ago

  • lucky hussein · 1 year ago
please, pease let it be a joke. shades of that jackhole who ran hud with pics/paintings of himself all over. wow.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
The pundits have weighed in on the new seal. Looks like it might be a bad idea for Obama. THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN.
  • lauren1959 · 1 year ago
Kiki. So let's see- if someone doesn't agree with me 100% I'm going to throw away my vote.... that'll show him. It's that kind of inability to see the big picture that has us in the predicament we're in today. Please think about our future.

On the seal, I'm a "no".
  • chandler_in_lasvegas · 1 year ago
    I like it.
It looks like the American Eagle is hugging a condom.
It should have been modified to get rid of the war arrows and the peace olive branches.
Like a rolled up constitution and diploma scroll.
Now THAT would have sent the RIGHT message.
    Similar but different.
  • ibsulon · 1 year ago
Why can't we ever get a seal with.. you know, a seal on it?
  • AdmNaismith · 1 year ago
    No.
    Talk about a coronation.
Less stupid seals and more better voting.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    LOL!

    He's outRepublicaning the Republicans.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
But it needs a baseball bat like the Ramones logo:

  • houstonray · 1 year ago
It's a little pretentious. I really hate McSame's logo for the same reason, the green and the star looking so much like a military logo is tacky for him (but that's ok).

This one though seems tacky for Obama and so I sent an email to his campaign as well and suggested it disappear come Monday morning.
  • HelenaMontana · 1 year ago
He's not the man I thought he was.
  • peckster · 1 year ago
i am amazed no one has gotten the strong "west wing" reference here. remember when leo mcgarry went to jed barlett to get him to run for president and wrote on the napkin? "barlet for america"

that seal totally undermines obama's grass roots theme and needs to go!
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I'm sorry, but I think this seal is kind of creepy. It's such an obvious attempt to make him look presidential through some kind of odd marketing campaign. I think he looks Presidential without any of this kind of crap and personally find it insulting.

Please, use your time and money in other ways, instead of trying to transform the Presidential seal into an Obama logo.
  • hunt · 1 year ago
    stupid seal. too pretentious.

i agree with others here who say he needs to concentrate less on seals, and more on substance. he especially needs to be a LEADER and come out strongly against the outrageous telecom bill! Why does he think we are sending him all this money and working for him?
  • MorgaineSwann · 1 year ago
I don't have a problem with it - it's just a graphic for a campaign. Big shittin' deal. People need to relax a little. The Crybaby Conservatives are going to twist everything he does into some kind of outrage. Our job is to laugh at them for it, not to join in.

The biggest problem the Dems have is that they let this strategy work against them time and time again - Dem does something brave, innocent, whatever; Repub cries foul; Dem wilts and apologizes for nothing. They need to laugh this stuff off. You can't be socially sensitive with people who have no shame and no morals - you lose every time. Let them piss and moan, and stand your ground.
