AMERICAblog: Obama victory could drop oil $40

  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
    Let's make it happen!
  • unrepentant_expat · 1 year ago
That does sound audaciously hopeful. Though, I'm not sure if I'd buy a used car from Tony Crescenzi.

Short, funny youtube clip about being gouged by the oil companies:

In my local area, they're praying for gas prices to decline and having certain gaming places giving you ten gallons at $1.40 a gallon. People were lined up for over 8 hours for the cheaper gas. That's crazy. People are also starting to steal gas and diesel here.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Some place had over 700 gallons of diesel stolen. Probably, before, when fuel was cheap, businesses didn't secure it very well. So I guess they're starting to, now.

Yuk, it's headed into our hot season. Been wetter more than usual. Two more months and we're back to cool temps again.

I read somewhere (might have been on here) that if he made a speech indicating he was going to balance the budget in 4 years it would go down significantly and soon thereafter the speech. I assume that would be due to the value of the dollar. Dunno. I do know, the more I look at McCain and Obama, an Obama win would indicate that we are stepping into a modern age with the rest of the world. McCain = 1950/60's mindset of old white man waving the "OMG we are all going to die" flag if we don't attack attack attack. McCain=end result we all starve to death because our economy is so vested in the Middle East oil and wars.

Hope so, because I have no idea how to afford heating oil this winter. I'm still paying off last winters bill.

Chris, Obama has already stated that we will do everything we can to defend Israel. I'm sure that went over like a lead balloon in the Arab world.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Who is this mythical "we" you wingnuts always reference. I wouldn't even fart in defense of Israel anymore.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
I have absolutely NOTHING to do with you with this "we" thing y'all always say. Like we're a part of your wingnut stupidity. Sheesh.

Here's what's really going to drop the price of oil: The top Democrats now are on board to drop the US drilling ban.

Democrats say energy companies are producing oil and gas from only about a quarter of the 91.5 million acres currently leased from the government.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
The leases don't carry a drilling commitment. However, Federal leases which were declared "no drilling areas" were extended beyond their primary terms until such time as the no drilling bans are lifted. Some of these have been held in limbo since Jimmy Carter days.

Here's just a sample, GG; Obama's speech to AIPAC:

  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
I don't care about that. AIPAC should be slung out of this country.

close the god damn Enron loophole
  • jcro · 1 year ago
Maybe they'll even get that Enron loophole closure passed when he's elected.

    .
Price drop wouldn't have anything to do with removing all the oil-execs from the Cabinet, would it?

whether the price of oil declines $40 or not the basic dynamics of the situation won't have changed. If you have any interest in energy issues please read theoildrum.com on a regular basis and at least be informed.
The era of abundant, cheap oil is drawing to a close and unfortunately we don't have leadership in either party ( and I'm an Obama supporter) who really are ready to confront reality.
