    Awesome ad.

    Excellent ad !!

"The only way he'll get any chance to gain their trust is by looking the American people in the eye and telling them what he wants to do and who he'll be as President."

And looking someone in the eye is something his opponent seems to not have the capacity to do.

McCain didn't look at Obama straight in the eye once. How can he face the problems of the world?
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
He didn't look at him because he is a bigot and a racist.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Exactly my feelings. He resented having lower himself to debating a N-word. Sigh! Dispicable. That sort of bigotry in 2008 is worse than bad, it is unAmerican and disgusting. Speaking of traitors and enemies of our nation, these are the people who should leave this nation as they are the ones who want to destroy the foundations of the real America, the Constitution, Bill of Rights and laws of our nation. Oh yes, The 14th Amendment is one of the foundations of this nation.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Sigh! Truth is I'm voting for Obama because he is a Black man. Equality for all, egalitarianism is the foundation of this nation and was part of the original Constitution. Sadly, our courts and government misinterpreted the real meaning of the Constitution and didn't realize that equality included Blacks. They added the 14th Amendment to correct their misunderstanding, but equality was already a part of foundation of our nation and the 14th Amendment simply clarified that for those who were too dense and still are.

I want Obama to win because it represents that egalitarian ideal. All men are created equal, including Blacks, Hispanics, women, rich or poor, government or common man. Royalty is a atavistic concept, when people believed that blood make for a superior human being, taller, better looking, braver, more honest, and smarter. Those ideas belong with cannibalism, head hunting and human sacrifice ... along with slavery.

Obama isn't an ideal candidate, he is far too corporatist for my tastes. However, inherent in his being a Black man is that he incorporates many ideals that he would not himself want to commit himself to as he knows that such idealism scares the wits out of the more atavistic members of our society. We also have to realize that despite his flaws, Obama is no different than the rest of us, a flawed human being and no one is perfect. Well ... no one but me. <g>

Bomb bomb bomb Iran or Spain if need be.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
McCain's confusion about Spain should be an automatic disqualification any office higher than dog catcher, let alone for president. I might forgive if he couldn't find Turkmenistan on a map or didn't know the president of that nation, but, give me a break, Spain? SPAIN??? There is zero excuse for the leader of the free world, even one who is ignorant of foreign affairs and not an expert on foreign relations to fail to recognize that Spain is in Europe and not South America. If it is a joke, it is such a sick joke that that alone should disqualify him.

Note also for all his vast, vaunted foreign relations expertise, McCain still doesn't know the difference between Sunni and Shia Muslims despite having visited Iraq and the Middle East countless times and having been corrected on his confusion many times including Liebermann. If he can't keep such things straight about our most important foreign policy issue, the Iraq War, how can we trust him to deal knowledgeably and intelligently with the vast complexity of our relations with the rest of the world.

The man is flatly, totally unqualified to be president.

Why Voters Thought Obama Won (And Why the Pundits Didn't Get It)

Specifically, by a 62-32 margin, voters thought that Obama was “more in touch with the needs and problems of people like you”. This is a gap that has no doubt grown because of the financial crisis of recent days. But it also grew because Obama was actually speaking to middle class voters. Per the transcript, McCain never once mentioned the phrase “middle class”

Obama did so three times. And Obama’s eye contact was directly with the camera, i.e. the voters at home.

Yes! This ad is showing regularly on cable and satellite TV here in Central Florida. I think it fits our demographic nicely, showing a calm gentleman making an intelligent statement about an urgent issue. The times are too difficult for anything other than a sensible approach. No flash, no advertising gimmicks, no sensational shots culled from any event. Just facts. The format is another example of the coming change. That's a scary thought for the Swells because it doesn't include them.

    A Stronger Leader
  • auslander99 · 1 year ago
I couldn't agree more that Obama needs these type of ads. Al Franken runs quite a few ads here in Minnesota that are him talking to the camera which I have found quite effective compared to Norm Coleman's endless mudslinging (The Angry Al ad was the end of the line for me). Given how close the senatorial race is here, I really believe positive position based ads work well.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
    How close is the race?
  • auslander99 · 1 year ago
Its ranges from being 4-5 points down for Al versus nearly a tie... depending on the poll. I think the fact there is a third candidate on the ballot could benefit Al.

Obama is the debater and Palin is the masturbator.

GREAT ad! Even though I don't see any ads here in Red Texas, I'm glad to know my donation dollars are going to a good cause, and hopefully in those swing states it will make a huge difference.

Texas may be Red as a whole, but Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin are definitely Blue and will still net him hundreds of thousands of votes. I believe with a little more time and some great ads like that playing here, he could turn this state blue, but I guess they are not focusing much here....

    GO Obama/Biden 08!

houstonray, my daughter lives outside of Dallas in Plano, and there are a number of transplants from California and northern states bringing with them a more cosmopolitan air to the state.

joe scarborough is not only paid to dislike this format, he's such a partisan gasbag he'll never give Obama a fair shake...

so if joe hates it, it's good.

This is the ad I've been waiting for!
    1) Obama speaks! He so much better than an offscreen announcer to deliver his message, 2) it's specific and he hits the tax issue directly on the head, 3) they put up a link to the web site info. My next ad wish is one with a comparison of the income tax changes for both the Obama and McCain plans, with perhaps a link to one of the Obama tax calculators. For the undecideds I know, this is a huge issue, and the tired old "tax and spend" tag is one that the republicans still drag out of mothballs every chance they get (including the debate last night).

I am sooooooo happy to hear other people like this kind of ad!!! This is what I have been begging for! I really hope the campaign gets on a roll with these ads... creates a stir. And I hope he does these types of ads on lots of key issues. And please show some here in Oregon even though we are blue! :-)
  • KISSman · 1 year ago
Without any exaggeration, I literally cannot remember the last time I've seen an ad with John McCain speaking in it nor one where it promotes his campaign without slagging Obama. I live in a critical swing state where we see ads all the time and yet every McCain ad is about how scary Obama is.

I know I've heard pundits who say that McCain's campaign isn't nearly as negative as some in the past, but maybe they should live where I live and see the commercials I see all of the time.

I would think this kind of ad is one that would resonate because I would like to believe that people do want to hear about what the candidate is going to do as president and not just all the bad things the other guy is going to do. Unfortunately, too many people allow themselves to be influenced by the negative ads and it ends up justifying every dirty rotten thing the Republicans do.
