Just heard the loathsome Candy Crowley on CNN state the McCain talking point that it remains to be seen how the spectacle of cheering Europeans is received back home. As if it is somehow a bad thing to have the support of our allies aboard.

In the meantime, Grampa McSame and Miss Lindsey Graham had a lovely lunch at a sausage and fudge factory today. Grampa McSame was propped up for the cameras where he stuttered and stammered about Sen. Obama not having any understanding of how important sausage and fudge factories are to him and Miss Lindsey. A smiling and satiated Miss Lindsey declined comment.

Gramps had to cancel his oil rig speech for bad weather -- and no joke -- A MAJOR OIL SPILL!
Which would have provided a not-good background for Mr. Drill All the Coasts!

Too funny.
Yeah, it wouldn't have made for good TV to see a bunch of dead, oily dolphins floating belly-up around a drilling platform while Grampa McSame stammered about how eco friendly BigOil really is.

So wonderful to have a presidental hopeful who speaks English, and doesn't salt his speeches with smirks and bad jokes.

C'mon, it was touching to see that young mother lead Grampa McSame around a grocery store. I don't think Grampa McSame embarrassed himself while holding the box of Cracker Jack and describing how empty his life was before it was invented.
And I really liked it when the jars of applesauce (obviously terrorist types) jumped from the shelf and made a roll at him. Fortunately, Grampa was able to stumble out of the way before the jars could get him.
Just another day for Grampa McSame at the market.

Obama is doing a great job, obviously, but where elections are really won, like the 2006 Senate and Congressional races, are at the grassroots. That's what kind of gets ignored with all pomp and circumstance of media coverage, is the people on the ground. Obama has a great organization, but anyone who thinks he can do it on his own is sadly mistaken. We need to do everything we can to make sure our country is taken in the right direction. There are tons of organizations looking for people who want to get involved, and one of the best is Work for Progress. They're staffing up offices all across the country and looking for people who want paid leadership positions on grassroots campaigns. Check them out at www.workforprogress.com!

anyone know where the whole speech can be downloaded audio and/or video?
For a moment there I actually imagined an articulate President with a vision for this nation and the world.
Then I remembered that the United States has been destroyed by Bush and the Corporate plutocracy--and supported by its handmaidens in the Corporate Media.
But it was nice to think about for just a moment.

I was preparing lunch for my 5 yr old daughter and 16 month old son when Obama's speech began, but I simply had to stop what I was doing, put lunch on hold, gather up my kiddos, hold them close to me, and let tears of pride and joy roll down my cheeks as we watched history unfold before our very eyes! What an amazing and historic foreign policy speech! Not a campaign speech. But an amazing and historic foreign policy speech... no matter what the corporate media whores (ya know... McDementia's self-proclaimed "base") try and tell us. As IF Grandpa McAncient Partisan could EVER dream of giving such a speech, receiving such a reception, and commanding such a presence. And isn't it refreshing to see folks wildly waving American flags instead of burning them? I'm sure my Italian immigrant paternal grandparents and Romanian immigrant maternal grandparents looked down from the heavens and proudly smiled along with me and their great-grandchildren b/c it is a great day to be a proud American .... wow... haven't said THAT in years, huh?

Obama is so great in these speeches, so uplifting and inspiring, then he stabs us in the back on FISA.
very infuriating.
Mum48
None of us are happy with the FISA vote. But if you take a look at the bill as it was passed (by a large margin) in the House before it went to the Senate, and if you were following the debates on the various amendments in the Senate, you knew that it didn't have a chance of being defeated. Given the political ramifications of not voting for the bill, Obama was faced with a difficult decision. Not voting for it would have given the GOP and the McCain campaign just one more arrow for their quiver, and they would have used it ruthlessly.
If a filibuster against the bill had been organized by any of the Democratic senators, it still may have failed. Remember that 21 Democrats voted for passage, including (besides Obama, who is the only one running for President) several surprises - Kohl, Inouye and Conrad(they voted against the Iraq War resolution), McCaskill, Webb, Whitehouse, Mikulski (she also voted against the Iraq War resolution), Lincoln, and Casey. Baucus, Bayh, Feinstein, Landrieu, the Nelsons and Rockefeller, on the other hand, did not surprise me with their votes.

If this was McCain, CNN would be all over it. Right now I have it on CNN and although they showed about a second of Obama, they are focused on other stories.
They are saying that approx. 200,000 showed up to cheer him. I wonder if this is even close.

If the white trash crackers of this nation pull the McSame lever after hearing these words, which they won't anyway, there is no hope left. I hope to god this man wears a flack vest. This is the first great statesman in my long life since JFK. Probably better.

I was also brought to tears. I was clapping and cheering at several points. I just saw Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC and can she be any more dour ? David Schuster was talking about the cheering crowd of more than 200,000 and the parts that they cheered. Andrea seemed irritated and pissed that this Obama's trip has gone so well. It was an amazing speech and it has been an amazing trip. Obama and his campaign staff should be very proud. I KNOW I AM !!!!!
Mum48

I've had the feeling for some time that Andrea Mitchell has a problem with Senator Obama. She may be an ardent McCain supporter and having a little bit of trouble being objective. And based on the way CBS covered up the McCain/Couric interview gaffe, I wonder exactly how many of our supposed objective journalists (to say nothing of the corporate mediocracy) are feeling threatened by the probability of an Obama presidency.
I don't expect all journalists to be completely unbiased and objective when it comes to personally favoring one candidate over the other. As citizens they will have a preference that will accord with their personal philosophy, and will make a choice in the voting booth. I do, however, expect the journalist, if he or she pretends to that title, to be as fair and honest in representing the facts as possible.

History will record that this is one of the truly great speeches of the post-World War II era. It ranks up there with the orations of Winston Churchill.
There's a little extra spring in my step today because for the first time in many, many years a fellow American has stood before the world and articulated exactly what I believe. Thank you, Senator Obama.
A speech alone does not qualify a talented orator to be President of the United States. But I sincerely believe that Senator Obama is committed to every word he spoke, that he is ready to lead us toward the visions he has stated. That clearly qualifies him to be our President, especially since his Republican opponent, John McCain, looks to the past and cannot see what the future holds for us.

Such a different message & vision than the one we had for the last 8 years built on greed, fear and war. Barack's message is on the oneness of Humantiy and our shared and common goals -- that we are all of us in this together. It was based on love and goodwill toward each other. That we are not alone and without hope. That there should be a freedom from fear and want everywhere in the world and that only united can we build a better world for all. What a great vision to aspire too, especially for the young and the children of the world. Gives them something to look forward to other than years of war and hate.
This is such an inspirational and great healer/teacher/leader! Is it not great that we are talking about peace and unity for a change? Our common humantiy? That speaks a lot in itself. He generated a lot of powerful, healing engery today. We must not loose it.

Look, Obama is cool, he is better than McCain, but he made a false statement in this speech. He made a false statement that many American politicians make, either because they simply don't know the truth or because they like the talking point. The false statement is that the walls have come down in Belfast and "Catholics and Protestants have learned to live together." This is simply misleading at best or totally false. The Protestant Orange Order still marches through Catholic neighborhoods chanting anti-Catholic slogans, vandalizing Catholic businesses and beating up youths. There is still widespreadh discrimination. Both sides still beat each other up. And, oh yeah, the walls are literally still up. They aren't that hard to see.
