AMERICAblog: Octuplet mom wants $2m from Oprah, hires agent

  • paulbot5 · 10 months ago
The womans crazy, but whats this have to do with anything lol
  • MommaKat · 10 months ago
Hey, wait, I'm a single mom. Does that mean if I go out and do something completely insane I can get my kids and I taken care of with a TV deal? Crap, nope - sure can't. My conscience just kicked in! Seriously, I hope Oprah and every other damn show turns her down. Not that I don't want all the kids to be cared for, but I am so tired of watching people think up ways to not-work and still make money.
  • SCLiberal · 10 months ago
"...I am so tired of watching people think up ways to not-work and still make money"
Me too, especially people like those financial industry CEOs.
  • The Other JR · 10 months ago
    I agree. She crazy.
  • kittycatastrophe · 10 months ago
She isn't marketable given the questions about her personal finances, mental health and parenting abilities. She'll be booked for shows under the freakshow banner for a couple of weeks and ignored until social services comes into the picture. People have voiced nothing but negative feelings about her and that does not move product off the shelves.
  • Pro-children · 10 months ago
    Crass, tacky, and extremely disturbing.

Parents of gobs of young children shouldn't be busy being celebrities; they should be busy being a parent. Babies and young children cannot take care of their own needs. And bonding with safe, consistent caretakers is extremely important.

This applies to the Palin family, too, by the way.

    RESUME

    Nadya Suleman

    Position Desired:

    Side Show Freak

    Salary requested:

    $2 million
  • SCLiberal · 10 months ago
    OT but I love this:
Representatives Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and Ted Poe (R-TX) today sent a letter to the Secretary of the Treasury Department, Mr. Timothy Geithner, requesting that Treasury demand that Citigroup dissolve their $400 million contract with the New York Mets to name the new Mets stadium Citi Field.
"Out of work Americans are literally being killed by this economy. In Michigan, a 93-year-old man freezes to death after the electric company limits his heat. In California, a family is lost in a murder-suicide because of work issues. In every state, American homes are foreclosed and people put on the street. At Citigroup, 50,000 people will lose their jobs. Yet in the boardroom of Citigroup, spending $400 million to put a name on stadium seems like a good idea. The Treasury Department, which forced Citigroup corporate executives to give up their private jet, should also demand that Citigroup cancel its $400 million advertisement at the Mets field and instead begin to repay their debt to the taxpayers," stated Kucinich.
    ------------------
    He's The Man.
  • sullivan · 10 months ago
But how many people would $400 million support?
If they don't get their money other jobs are lost.
  • SCLiberal · 10 months ago
By that reasoning we should all be okay with Thain spending over one million to redecorate his office since he was spending it in someone's store. We should be happy that CEOs are paying themselves billions in bonus money since it will "trickle down" to retailers and the service industry. That's ludicrous.
  • athenap · 10 months ago
I think the 400 million isn't employing anyone--it's just a payment to have the stadium's name changed for a period of years, in return for the publicity. So no great hunk of new jobs out there.
  • RitornaVincitor · 10 months ago
This is getting really interesting and really disturbing. It raises so many questions. But one it answers is the question of whether or not this is a fit topic for public discussion or Suleman's private business. Nadya Suleman has officially gone public.
  • athenap · 10 months ago
Very interesting. A few things that seem very wrong, too. Or at least, very not-quite-right.

It begs the question of who "owns" the un-implanted frozen embryos from IVF treatments, and who has the right to determine the fate of all such embryos. Also skitters a mite too close as to who's "suitable" for bearing children.

However--it's not the kids' fault. They're going to have an effed-up life as it is.
  • Forty2 · 10 months ago
Well, I hope y'all are happy that financial support for this brood sow and her litters is also provided by state and federal handouts. "Childcare expert"? The only topics on which she is an expert are getting pregnant (that's super-super easy, if you're female) and flagrant abuse of government funds.

How is a woman with six children considered for fertility treatments and embryo implantation anyway?
  • larry · 10 months ago
I understand that she is from Iraq or the Middle East. Possibly she could achieve her goals in that market and they would likely find her abilities less disturbing than we do. Lots of money in Dubai, and Kuwait too. I understand her father has or is leaving for Iraq seeking employment. So might her mom,she and her kids go along? Seems like that would be a win win for all.
  • moreleesafer · 10 months ago
I guess she can be an instructor at the clown college. She can use her vagina as a visual aid to demonstrate how the clown car trick works.
what-------the------hell is wrong with people? I ask myself that at least twice a day.
  • SouthernYankee · 10 months ago
Well, I hope she doesn't get a dime. What a selfish bitch.

  • Alrightythen · 10 months ago
What does she do? She teaches the kids to sing, dance, juggle, bark, tell "cute" jokes, enters them in baby beauty contests... Then she becomes their manager. This woman has objectification written all over her apparently fab mothering. Really, would someone who respected children as individuals & persons deliberately have so many? I don't think so.
  • switched · 10 months ago
I don't know... I'm having a hard time giving a shit about this. The media has been all over the lady like she's a criminal, camping out at her house and filming her little kids leaving for school and the usual media crap. Good for her if she's able to capitalize on the media obsession. The octuplets were born on the same day that the murder-suicide happened with the unemployed father killing his wife, five young children and himself. 7 dead - 8 born, weird day but the murder seemed far newsworthy to me.

Whatever. I just want the Dems to get this frickin' stimulus package right and not eff it up by listening to the GOP nonsense.
  • AdmNaismith · 10 months ago
Here's the deal- no reputable fertility doctor would implant more than 5 embryos into any woman with fertility issues(the scale goes from 1-5 zygotes depending on your age). Some doctor (who still remains unidentified) implanted 8 embryos into this woman. Where and how did that happen? (Gods help me if I break an arm, but this woman is getting all kinds of mad scientist shit done for free)
Not only is she mental, this doctor is crazy as well.

The State of CA needs to step in now, tie this woman's tubes, and remand all of these children into foster homes (and eventual adoption). The real tragedy here is that all of these children will have to go to so many separate homes. But, they have no hope at all by staying with their biological relatives.
  • Bush Bites · 10 months ago
I don't really care too much about the woman.

If all crazy overbreeders were put away, there'd be no Republican base.

But I agree that the Doctor or Clinic is unethical at best, dangerous at worst.

When does some board of health step in to this?
  • SkippyFlipjack · 10 months ago
You're absolutely right. That should be in ALL CAPS in every article about this story. No IVF operation aims to give someone twins or triplets; they implant the number of embryos they think are required to make it likely that a child results. A woman in her mid 30s who's already had 6 kids is obviously fertile, even though she's entering the period of diminished fertility. Implanting 8 embryos in her is almost criminal, since it's almost guaranteed to result in multi-child birth. You implant 8 embryos if you think that each has a very small chance of succeeding.
  • Hillblogger3 · 10 months ago
    The woman is irresponsible.
  • ndtovent · 10 months ago
she should be locked up in a mental hospital and her kids taken away and put up for adoption.
  • sue · 10 months ago
this woman is obviously seriously disturbed. the doctor who "treated" her should lose his/her license for practicing in a completely unethical manner-no responsible ivf clinic would find her psychologically suitable

MORE DETAILS... on this DISGUSTING story...

These people are PALESTINIANS. The woman (named Nadya Suleman) is 33 years old, has never been married, used IN VITRO FERTILIZATION FOR ALL HER CHILDREN, apparently "worked" at the Fertility Clinic, used the same "DONOR FATHER" (makes you wonder if it was her boss!?), lives with/off her PARENTS, who are 1 million dollars in debt and filed bankruptcy last March!!! The news tonight said the hospitalization bill alone is over one million dollars already... Guess who they plan to have FOOT THE BILL for all this b.s.?! (Nadya has delusions of becoming a MEDIA CHILD EXPERT and wants Dianne Sawyer & Oprah Winfrey to feature her on their shows and make her rich & famous! WHAT A SL=T!)

HEY, YOU SICK0S, WHY DON'T YOU ALL RELOCATE BACK TO THE *GAZA STRIP* and LET YOUR OWN PEOPLE PAY FOR THIS LIVING DEMONSTRATION OF IDIOCY?? Why should the U.S. & California taxpayers foot the bill for such totally outrageous lunacy? PEOPLE OF AMERICA, WAKE UP AND SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING TO OUR COUNTRY!!! WE ARE BECOMING A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY, THANKS TO OUR OWN NAIVETE AND POOR POLICIES. WE NEED TO WISE UP AND DEPORT THE *LEECHES* WHO ARE BLEEDING US DRY.
  • Sue · 10 months ago
She can have her delusions of being a Media Child Expert all she wants - from the mental ward where she belongs.

As far as I've heard Oprah doesn't pay for interviews but I might be wrong here but I hope I'm not. This stupid broad doesn't deserve one cent for her stupidity.

"So miss Suleman, do you see yourself as a role model?"
  • hauksdottir · 10 months ago
The fault here is with the doctor and the clinic. They need to get their licenses pulled immediately.

A woman who already has 6 children under the age of 8 doesn't have fertility problems.

Since she has no money, no spousal or child-care support, no education, and no job, she'll never have the money required to properly raise the children she does have. Clothing and food are expensive enough, and children need books and toys to develop as humans.

She may be stupid and vain and obsessive enough to want more children. The doctor, however, is supposed to be an educated man, and ALL doctors sign ethical oaths. He has violated that oath. His nurses and staffers violated their oaths. 46 weeks and not one of them put in a tip to the State Medical Board?

    Close the clinic.

Otherwise, the sow will be back next year for another litter.
  • RainbowPhoenix · 10 months ago
I agree with everything except that last part. These latest children were leftover eggs that didn't get implanted with the other six. Since everything indicates she used them all up now, it's not likely she'll be back for more. Especially now that she's called attention to herself.
  • RitornaVincitor · 10 months ago
Apparently she's not uneducated. She holds a 2006 degree in child and adolescent development from California State University, Fullerton, and last spring she was studying for a master's degree in counseling.

  • Brad · 10 months ago
If she gets her TV wishes, all that loot for feathering a cozy family nest would come from the private sector, unlike the obscene bailout programs eating at our savings like caustic soda on corpses.

Seems an odd choice of speculation, over something like pork bellies, but if you've got all that mother-love, pop `em out. Even if you are not blessed with as many technological miracles as Soleman is, there is always a concerned someone in government who will see that guns are pointed in a productive direction, and will see that you are set up with the extracted values others produced.
  • Older_Wiser · 10 months ago
My dog, aren't there enough attention whores on TV already?

Understand this: While everyone ooohs and ahhhs over someone having 8 kids at once, I call bullshit on this as a "respect for life" issue, and I seriously doubt the parental expertise of this "professional student" and the huge carbon footprint she's foisted on the world for one thing. To simply keep on having children like she did is a sign of an irresponsible individual wishing to bring attention to herself and her brood, hoping to capitalize on the goodwill of others, most of whom are having a hard time providing for their own much smaller broods.

And how many mentally challenged women out there will latch on to this idea? There already is that "Quiverfull" movement of the religious right out there which considers women nothing but walking wombs already.

Frankly, I'm more than offended. It's time for women to stop this nonsense.

Of course, I have no doubt there will be some just as nutty producer who will think showcasing this woman is a "good thing." I truly feel sorry for her kids, now that they're here. Some may have physical and developmental problems as a result of her ego-driven ambitions. For anyone to think that any of this is a good thing is out of whack mentally. You just don't experiment with life like this because of ambition and an ego gone awry.

And it can be likened to Wall St. types who think they deserve much more than anyone else on the planet. Obviously this woman does, too, simply expressed in another way.

This cow is disgusting. She's plain sick and selfish. She has no regard for human life whatsoever.First, they need to remove all of her kids. Then, they need to sterilize her and all the women like her. She should get $0 from the state. But if they decide to give her some financial help for her disgusting deed, then guess who should pay for that, the doctor who's responsible for this.Yup, he planted 8 eggs or whatever knowing that she was one big loser who couldnt afford to raise a mouse. So he should be liable and he should pay and not the tax payers.

For heaven's sake, she's got 14 kids. I thnk it's great if Oprah or whoever wants to pay her for appearances. Better Oprah than the U.S. Taxpayer (who, btw, is broke). You can't put the kids back where they came from, time to move forward.
  • Muscato · 10 months ago
Living in the Middle East, and knowing a little bit about family dynamics out here - and quite separate from the rantiness of some other commentators - I find this really disturbing. I really wonder what the role of the father/grandfather is; given profound cultural taboos on illegitimacy, it seems bizarre that he would be part of this without having some kind of potentially pathological role in it all, if only, perhaps, as a demento patriarch who can't brook having a son-in-law/father figure challenge him. All speculation, I know, but there's something terribly wrong-feeling about the whole situation.

There seems to be a LOT more to this story than anybody is letting on. Things just don't "add up." What doctor would have implanted all those eggs? Maybe the woman did it to herself, or with the aid of a friend?! She apparently worked for that Fertility Clinic. Also, some stories are reporting that the same "donor" is father to all her children; sounds like some worker at the Clinic who sits around and "DONATES" sperm all day long!! LOL...

No, there are things we don't yet know about this whole ugly story that will make people even MORE riled up and disgusted when the truth emerges. Count on it. And by the way, it was VERY inappropriate for that sow's father to come on so UPPITY and "OFFENDED" by news reporters trying to interview him, when THE WHOLE FAMILY BROUGHT IT ON THEMSELVES for committing such an outlandish act in the first place. They better get used to being considered a FREAK SHOW.

That "unwritten law" is called the US Constitution.

Where's Focus on the Family on this one? They don't want gay/lesbian people to get married because it would hurt marriage and the family. They think all families should be mandated to have one mother and one father. This woman flies in the face of that, but we won't hear from FOF and their ilk. I've long thought there should be licensing to have children. Too many clueless people like this breed without thinking about the consequences.

  • CHANGE THE LAW! · 10 months ago
    Quote from wiki...

    Citizenship Clause

The purpose of the Citizenship Clause was to provide citizenship to former slaves born in the United States.

During the original debate over the amendment, Senator Jacob M. Howard of Michigan, the author of the citizenship clause described the clause as excluding not only Indians but “persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers.”[citation needed]

In Elk v. Wilkins, 112 U.S. 94 (1884), the clause's meaning was tested regarding whether it meant that anyone born in the United States would be a citizen regardless of the parents' nationality. In that case, the Supreme Court held that the children of Native Americans were not citizens, despite the fact that they were born in the United States.

The meaning was tested again in the case of United States v. Wong Kim Ark, 169 U.S. 649 (1898), regarding children of non-citizen Chinese immigrants born in United States. The court ruled that the children were U.S. citizens.[2]

The distinction between "legal" and "illegal" immigrants was not clear at the time of the decision of Wong Kim Ark.[3] Neither in that decision nor in any subsequent case has the Supreme Court explicitly ruled on whether children born in the United States to illegal immigrant parents are entitled to birthright citizenship via the Amendment,[4] although it has generally been assumed that they are.[5] In some cases, the Court has implicitly assumed, or suggested in dicta, that such children are entitled to birthright citizenship: these include INS v. Rios-Pineda, 471 U.S. 444 (1985)[6] and Plyler v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 (1982).[7] Nevertheless, some claim that the Congress possesses the power to exclude such children from US citizenship by legislation.[4]

    -----------

Obviously, the framers of this Amendment DID NOT ANTICIPATE ALL THE MISCHIEF, MAYHEM AND BU11SH1T occurring in modern-day America, with all this influx of FOREIGNERS who come here for the specific purpose of HAVING KIDS who will become U.S. Citizens, and with the hope that once those kids are born, the Parent(s) can stay.

THE LAW NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AND CLARIFIED, so that NON-US-CITIZENS are less inclined to come over here and flood our systems with their spawn and the COSTS of their upkeep.

After reading a slew of comments on different blogs regarding Ms. Suleman and her decision to have more childrens with the help of fertility specialists it seems that most people want to criticize her because she now has 14 children. Most of that criticism seems to be about her finances and how the majority of people seem to think she will have to depend on government assistance in raising and caring for them. Her personal financial situation is none of anyone's business, but hers. I have no idea why she was implanted with 8 embryos, from what little knowledge I have regarding invitro I understand that multiple embryos are implanted to assure at least 1 or 2 will implant and result in live births.
I guess all of hers took. From what I have read she was offered the choice of aborting some of the fetuses and she made a choice not to. That was her decision, not the public's. My maternal grandparents had 14 children born to them and 12 of them survive today with children and grandchildren of their own. My grandmother did not have them with the help of fertility treatments. My grandmother had her babies from the 1930's through the 1950's. It had to have been pretty hard at times and they went through their financial difficulities, but they made it. The family is by no means perfect, but with the exception of the 2 children they lost due to diptheria and pneumonia, the other 12 grew up healthy. It seems to me that people want to moan about her probably need for government assistance and that she may have to rely on the "taxpayer" to get her children raised, when their major concern seems to be that she is a single mother. Because she is unmarried, a lot of people think she doesn't deserve the same gifts of houses, cars, appliances, and baby supplies that married, more finacially secure parents get when they have multiple birth deliveries that result in 5 or more babies at once. All the hype about Ms. Suleman was positive until it was revealed she was a single mother of 6. That's a sad look at our society. It okay to have fertility enhanced multiple births if the parents are married, but totally irresponsible if you are not. She deserves to have everything the other parents have received from the same companies. People who would boycott a company because they give her the same gifts are completely narrow minded and selfish. Her children are no less important than anyone's children.
  • Stacey · 10 months ago
Her personal finance situation is the taxpayers business if we are the ones paying for her and her children. Just like the banks that are taking taxpayers money need to disclose where the money is going to. This woman definately knows how to work the system and will likely end up having all 14 of her kids on disability and food stamps. She'll end up making more money off taxpayers than the average american simply because she made herself into a baby factory.
  • Concerned · 10 months ago
What is frustrating for me is the true selfishness of this woman. She has six children that already need her. It isn't as much about the finances, alittle about her being single, yes. She is blessed with many children already, love them. Care for them. Needing/wanting anymore then six, is just pure selfish!
  • Understanding · 10 months ago
I can't believe that all these so called christians and upstanding citizens is bashing this lady. She had 6 embryos implanted all them took and two resulted in twins. If God saw fit to bless this lady to have all her kids and all are still living, then who are we to say she doesn't deserve to have her kids. Another thing that is killing me is how people are against abortion but in the same breath believe this woman should have aborted some of her kids. She might not be in the most idea situation to raise them but if she is optimistic about her life, why can't we be. I'm pretty sure this is no walk in the park for her. Trying to figure out how your going to live when it is just you is hard, so having to think of 14 other people is harder. Instead of everyone bashing her we should pray for her situation. For who are we to pass judgement on her when we all live our lives in sin (God said this). So the next time you go to down this lady you should think about the things you could do in your life because if she is going to hell for having kids there are plenty of you who will be joining her. Then people want to get mad at anyone who wants to help her and thats stupid, so people would rather see her children suffer? Wow! And they say we are above animals but these thoughts are primitive and stupid.

Life is not "Burger King" you can't have it your way when the lives of some many innocent souls are involved. Let us not involve God in this process. He intended conception to come through marriage and intercourse, minus one immaculate conception. This was clearly a "choice" edged on without proper counseling and guidance. I was a single mother of two for over 18 years, "you couldn't pay me to do it again!!! Even now that they are almost 30 yo I still wish that I had waited on a better breeder, or at least one that would have hung around to take part in their lives. I see mistakes that could have been avoided had I been wiser. Who is to say the affect it will have on these children being raised in a single parent home. God has given us technology, it's an awesome gift but that too can be misused and abused as in this case.

get over yourself. its called "get the kids adopted" and "don't upport the lifestyle of someone who is living above her means of her lifestyle." its called, "be a financially responsible parent.' its called, don't exploit your kids for the use of monetary gain." THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CHILDREN SUFFERING. Its all about having this wake up and realize she is not making responsible decisions. Its called" hello, you have a kid with autism! you might want to reconsider spreading yourself too thin."

God had nothing to do with the womans choice to be implanted with more children. God gives people a choice and this woman made a very selfish one. I don't believe God gave this woman 14 children because she deserved them or because she is a good mother, I believe God lets us make our own decisions and live with the concequences. This woman made a choice and is now suffering concequences. It is possible that it is now Gods will that these children be adopted to parents that can take care of them.

I ask myself, what would i do if i was trying for one more child and i ended up with eight? would i save one and kill the other seven? No i would not!

A lot of things went wrong, but children are a blessing regardless of the parents they were born to. Lets help the children.

you all make me sick look at how all of you carry on about this woman
and her children, what right do any of you have to judge her and her family.it does not matter what country she came from are what her skin color is she is a human and it is her business how many children
she has.better take a look around you as there is plenty of white
americans as well as wet backs from mexico who use the welfare
system all the time. to hear you all here you act like she is the only one who does this.she has just as much right to get help from the state welfare system as anyone else does.all of you should be ashamed of yourself. how would you feel if you was in the same
situation. ask yourself that.how would you feel if child proctective services came in and took your children away never to be able to ever see them again. ask yourself that.that is what is wrong with this world today to many children being taken by child protective services
and torn from thier familys.leave this woman alone. if you can not say anything good about anyone then do not say nothing at all
