At one point I held a very high security clearance and from my experiences what is most unusual about this story is that Ivins never had his clearance pulled or at least barred from his place of work at Fort Detrick. If only half of the alleged statements by and about him are true he would have (at least when I served) been escorted out of Fort Detrick and his clearance pulled until he was "cleared" by a government medical authority. You just don't keep your clearance under those circumstances. Very strange, indeed.

Thank you for clearing this up...I watched that press conference with the FBI today and I kept hearing about this timeline and how in 2003 and 2004 they suspected this and that but I kept sitting there thinking "how could they possibly have let him keep working in the lab for the last 4 or 5 years? God forbid he really WAS a psycho, letting him have continued access to potential bio weapons was the dumbest thing they could have done. Just makes it sound all the more suspicious to me...
