This smells to me. I mean really, who cares about the font a company uses for its logo? This sounds like Ikea is trying to kick up some faux attention drawing (non-) controversy. The media, I think, got played.

My Ikea catalog arrived, I purused it, made notes on items I'd like to buy and recyled the catalog without noticing the font change.

I don't know if you've noticed, Chris, but these days, everyone fancies themselves a typography geek. Getting outraged about the Ikea font change is basically a signal to others that you're "with it" when it comes to fonts and typography.
