AMERICAblog: Ohio's GOP Senator, George Voinovich, to retire

  • interlude · 10 months ago
The Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson, bishop of the U.S. Episcopal Church in New Hampshire and the first openly gay priest ordained by a major Christian denomination, has accepted the Obama team’s invitation to deliver the invocation at the inauguration concert held at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday. The event is the first that Obama will attend that weekend. Robinson shared the disappointment of many progressives at Obama’s choice of Rev. Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the swearing-in ceremony, saying that the right-wing pastor deserved “to be at the table” but not in such a prominent way.

Obama has also chosen the Rev. Sharon E. Watkins to deliver the sermon at the national prayer service, held the day after the inauguration. Watkins is the first woman ever selected to lead the service.

Tim Ryan kicks ass! Very vocal, take no prisoners remedy to the milquetoast Reid leadership. Would make a great partner for senator Brown. Look up videos of some of his floor speeches.

I expect more will cop out, too, and with the idiots running the RNC, the Rethugs won't be able to position anyone for a win any time soon.

    The Bush legacy lives on...

Have all of them just had enough? Or are they trying to get far enough away from Washington in case the peasants start building guillotines? I guess they've done their work, no need to stick around to watch the adults try to put out the fire. That lobbying money is just sitting there waiting to be taken.

This shows the republican's STILL have no vision for the future. No one is standing tall and rallying the troops together. They're quickly starting to look like a ship going down in the sea and the last thing we see making a feeble attempt to escape are the rodents who were caught unaware.

Since most are Bible carrying, card toting separatist who REALLY don't practice what they preach, it would do good to remind themselves a proverb: Where there is no vision, the people perish. One can't just bash and oppose unabashedly, one must be able to present a plan. Republicans can't do that, because they are having an identity crisis.

Rob Portman is well-known in his area - Cincinnati and Dayton - and pretty much unknown everywhere else. He's very right-wing, which Voinovich is not. I almost hate to see Voinovich go if we get a Rob Portman as a replacement. But Strickland is very popular in the state right now, and we have good candidates to run. I see Kucinich was not mentioned, but I think he would have good support. The Repubs. are getting ready to crucify Jennifer Brunner - not because of voter difficulties, but because she would be the deciding factor in the re-apportionment of Congressional districts in 2010.

This won't be a "Dem pickup" unless Ohioans start feeling some "quality-of-life-improvement" from Obama. It's just that "hope" that gave him the W.H. .

I agree. Mary Jo Kilroy just barely won. It's still pretty 50-50 around here.

Cordray already said he's running for a full term as AG in 2010. I don't think Voinie's retirement changes that as us Ohio Dems have long thought Voinie was vulnerable. Brunner won't run either. She was elected to do two things: repair our election system and help us take control of the apportionment board. Both things would be jeopardized if she opts to run for something else. I also sense her currrent job is a perfect fit for her goals and talents.
